The event is likely meant to distract Americans from an unfortunate reality: The taxpayer-funded<\/a> ALA is trying\u200c to place \u200b pornographic books<\/a> \u2062in \u200cthe hands of children, while\u200b it \u200btries to ban books<\/a> and story hours with patriotic themes. <\/p>\n

Few \u2063are soon to \u2062forget story hour<\/a> with Sen. John Kennedy, R-La. On \u200cSept. 12, during the\u00a0Senate \u200dJudiciary\u2063 Committee hearing titled \u201cBook\u200c Bans: Examining How \u200cCensorship Limits Liberty and Literature,\u201d Kennedy read excerpts from books currently in middle-school libraries<\/a> across the country. \u2063From the \u2062pornographic book containing graphic pictures, Gender \u200cQueer<\/em>, \u2064the 71-year-old\u200b read, \u201cI can\u2019t wait to have your c-ck in my mouth. \u200cI\u2019m\u200b going to give you the blowjob\u200d of \u200dyour life. Then I\u2063 want you inside of me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kennedy\u2019s \u2062display \u200bmade an \u2064incisive point: Books like Gender Queer<\/em> and All Boys Aren\u2019t Blue <\/em>meet the legal definition of \u200cpornography, and they do\u200b not belong in K-12 public school libraries<\/a>. Even Maia Kobabe, the \u2062author \u200cof Gender Queer<\/em>,\u200b agrees. She said<\/a>, \u201cI don\u2019t recommend this book for kids.\u201d<\/p>\n
Others<\/a> feel that 11-year-olds\u2064 in middle school need access to these books to feel seen. Sen. Dick Durbin, \u2064D-Ill., for example, stated<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cEvery \u200bstudent deserves access to books that reflect\u2063 their experiences\u200b and \u2062help them better \u200dunderstand \u2064who they are.\u201d\u200b It is unclear the children to \u200bwhom the senator is \u2062referring, but\u200b if these\u200c passages reflect their experiences, they are victims in need\u2064 of serious help.<\/p>\n
Other leftist\u2063 activists criticized<\/a> the senator for reading the explicit books. A witness in \u200bfavor of\u2063 the books argued that the passages were\u00a0\u201cdisturbing \u2014 especially coming out of your mouth.\u201d\u00a0To some, the issue is that an adult would dare read this \u2064pornographic\u200c material publicly, not that it\u2062 is available to our \u2062children in their public schools.<\/p>\n

Similarly, in Fairfax County, Virginia,\u2062 Harry Jackson, a Republican-endorsed school board candidate,\u200c sent a mailer to constituents in his \u2063district that contained graphic pictures and passages from books currently available in public\u200c middle schools in Fairfax \u200dCounty. A local\u2064 news channel, NBC4, reported<\/a> on the mailer.<\/p>\n
Rather\u2064 than addressing the true problem, \u2064that\u200b these \u2063books are available to young children,\u2063 the story angle<\/a> was to focus on the\u200d appropriateness of the \u2064candidate\u2019s decision to alert\u2063 voters of\u200c these explicit materials \u2064with a mailer. Journalists \u200creached\u2063 out\u200d to\u200c his opponent, the incumbent and Democrat-endorsed Melanie \u200cMeren, who offered \u200da\u200d nonsensical politician\u2019s quote about\u2064 \u201crespectful and thoughtful conversations.\u201d NBC4 failed \u2064to\u2063 report that Meren voted to\u200c keep books like Gender Queer<\/em> in the district\u2019s middle-school libraries and\u2063 that \u200cshe\u200d ignored \u200dJackson\u2019s public debate challenge, thereby negating \u200bher interest in \u201cthoughtful conversations.\u201d Leftist activists and journalists clearly\u2062 favor tribalism\u200d over logic \u2064and objective\u2064 reporting.<\/p>\n
ALA\u00a0Celebrates\u2062 Pornographic Books and\u2062 Socialism with \u2018Banned Books\u2064 Week\u2019<\/h2>\nEmily Drabinski,\u200c the self-proclaimed Marxist president of the ALA, illogically complains about the injustice \u200bof banning explicit materials, while simultaneously advocating for banning story hours on\u2062 faith, family, and patriotism. In response to\u2064 Kirk Cameron \u2063organizing nationwide \u200blibrary events<\/a>, Drabinski provided\u2063 tips in a\u200c presentation for librarians \u2062about how to thwart<\/a> these story \u2064hours.\u200b She \u200dadvised the\u200b librarians,\u00a0\u201cYou can limit access to meeting rooms to persons eligible to hold a library\u2062 card in your community. You \u2062could make\u200c a priority for library-sponsored programs.\u201d<\/p>\n
While using the\u00a0ALA\u2019s $250\u200b million budget to\u00a0 restrict \u200cconservatives\u2019 free speech<\/a>, Drabinski also utilizes her resources to promote pornography\u200d in \u200b middle school libraries<\/a>. Librarians should be focused\u200c on helping hesitant readers, particularly considering learning loss from prolonged school closures<\/a>, but it would\u200d seem \u2063the ALA leadership prioritizes \u2064other endeavors. Not only does Drabinski support<\/a> books like Gender Queer<\/em> in public libraries for \u200dchildren, \u200dshe hosts conferences to brainstorm how\u200b to \u2063get more of those types of books in the hands \u2062of more\u2064 children. The ALA\u2019s\u00a0June 2023 conference included \u2062a\u2064 session titled<\/a>, \u201cBeyond the Middle School Rainbow: Intersectionality \u200cin LGBTQIA+ Middle\u200b Grade Books.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Sept. 2, despite the multi-state withdrawal<\/a> from the ALA, Drabinski doubled down \u2063on her \u200dposition,\u200c and claimed that American libraries should be places for \u200dsocialist activism. At a conference panel titled,\u00a0\u201cFreedom To Learn: Black and Asian American Solidarity Against Attacks on Antiracist Education,\u201d after being \u200bpublicly referred to as \u201ccomrade,\u201d Drabinski said<\/a>,\u201c<\/em>I think your point \u2063that public education needs to\u200b be a site \u200dof \u200dsocialist organizing, I\u2063 think libraries really do too. \u2026\u2063 I think we need to be \u200don the \u200bagenda for socialist organizing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Likely to that end, the\u2063 ALA \u2062is\u200d currently\u200d hosting its fraudulent\u200d \u201cBanned Books Week.\u201d \u200bIn support \u2063of its misleading event,\u2064 the website reads<\/a>: \u201cWhen we\u200d ban books, we\u2019re closing off\u2062 readers to people, places, and perspectives. But \u200dwhen \u200dwe stand up for stories, we unleash the power that lies inside every \u200dbook. There are two grand ironies\u2064 in\u2062 the \u201cexplicit materials in schools\u201d\u200d debate. The left \u200dis trying to \u200cgaslight us into believing we are only imagining that pornography is\u2062 in our children\u2019s public school libraries \u2014 that only white supremacists and homophobes take issue\u2064 with \u200dany book. When \u200dwe bring\u200d proof and alert others to the pornographic materials, \u2064like Kennedy and Jackson did, these \u2063leftist activists suggest we are inappropriate and disturbing. Secondly, the \u200dALA hosts a \u201cBanned Books Week\u201d to \u200ccelebrate so-called \u201cfree expression\u201d in material that is extremely\u2063 inappropriate\u200c and technically illegal for children, while concurrently trying to ban books and story hours for children on themes of patriotism, faith, and \u200cfamily.<\/p>\n
The ALA is clearly not the\u00a0\u201cnonpartisan, \u2062nonprofit organization\u201d\u00a0it describes<\/a> itself to be. Partisan, socialist, pornography-peddling associations should not be funded with taxpayer dollars.<\/p>\n
