Matt Gaetz\u200b has made no secret \u200dof his battles with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p>The Florida congressman spent Sunday\u200d morning telling national television talk show audiences\u2063 he plans to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-gaetz-says-will-seek-oust-mccarthy-speaker-week-calls-new-house-leadership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">try to remove McCarthy<\/a> from \u200bthe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/12th-house-speaker-vote-underway\/\" title=\"12th House Speaker Vote Underway\">speaker post<\/a> this\u2062 week.<\/p>\n<p>And if a charge he \u200blaunched Saturday night has any truth to\u200d it, he\u2019s \u200cgot \u2063more ammunition than ever.<\/p>\n<p>Just after 8 p.m. Saturday, Gaetz picked up on a statement from House Democrats declaring that when the \u2064House returns to business, \u200bthey\u2064 expect\u2063 McCarthy to \u2062\u201cadvance a bill to the House Floor for an up-or-down vote\u201d on funding to support Ukraine in its fight against\u2062 the Russian invasion.<\/p>\n<p>Funding for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/cant-make-pentagon-exempts-ukraine-operations-potential-government-shutdown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ukraine<\/a> was not \u2064part of the stopgap spending bill passed by the House and \u2064Senate and signed by President Joe Biden late Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>To Gaetz, the statement was proof that McCarthy\u2062 had betrayed his own party, which has been leery\u200b of giving a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/29-gop-legislators-give-white-house-bad-news-ukraine-funding-day-zelenskyy-visits-dc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blank check<\/a> \u200bto\u200c Ukraine.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Wow.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpeakerMcCarthy?\">@SpeakerMcCarthy<\/a> made a\u200d side Ukraine\u2063 deal with Democrats\u2063 and didn\u2019t tell House\u200d Republicans \u2063until after\u200c his Continuing Resolution \u2062passed.<\/p>\n<p>More\u2062 deceit. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LC91laLyTp\">https:\/\/t.co\/LC91laLyTp<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 \u2062Matt \u2064Gaetz \u2064(@mattgaetz) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mattgaetz\/status\/1708270763759825399?\">October \u200d1, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Backing up Gaetz\u2019s suspicion, for what it\u2019s\u200d worth, Biden on Sunday also suggested a \u200cdeal had been cut, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/biden-suggests-democrats-have-new-deal-with-republicans-ukraine-aid-2023-10-01\/#:~:text=Biden%20urged%20Republicans%20to%20move,in%20Congress%20not%20to%20wait.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Asked at a \u200dnews conference if he trusted McCarthy \u201cin future deals,\u201d according to Reuters, Biden responded, \u201cWe just made one about Ukraine, so we\u2019ll find out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So, assuming \u200bBiden \u200bwas a shade more\u2062 compos mentis than \u2062his \u2063usual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/joe-biden-appears-lost-among-honor-guard-king-charles-coaxes-away-multiple-attempts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thorazine Shuffle \u200dself<\/a>, that sounds like there\u200d could be \u2062something to Gaetz\u2019s charge.<\/p>\n<p>If there is, or if enough Republicans believe there \u200cis, that is going\u2064 to make for a long \u200cweek as \u200bMcCarthy\u2063 tries to hold onto his job.<\/p>\n<h3>Should McCarthy\u2063 be\u2062 replaced \u200cas speaker?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Yes<\/li>\n<li>No<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are plenty of conservatives and Republicans who think\u2062 \u2014 with good reason \u2014 that supporting Ukraine against the Russian war machine \u200cin 2023 is the equivalent of supporting \u2063Winston Churchill\u2019s Great Britain against Nazi Germany in 1940.<\/p>\n<p>Not only is\u200c it a moral obligation, to \u2063support a beleaguered people\u200d against the evil of \u2062military\u2063 aggression, it\u2019s\u200d a strategic one, to contain an ambitious dictatorship that presents its \u200cown\u200d danger to the United States.<\/p>\n<p>There\u200b are likewise plenty of conservatives and Republicans who think \u2014 with \u2063good reason \u2014 that Ukraine \u2064is a cesspool of \u2063corruption, that its \u200dgovernment\u2063 is not to be\u200c trusted with\u2064 the vast American aid that has already gone\u200b to \u200bKyiv.<\/p>\n<p>There are also many who think both conditions \u200dare true \u2014 and that \u200dDemocrats are cynically using the Ukraine war to set \u2063themselves up as\u200c defenders of freedom abroad while their programs are aimed at curtailing American freedoms \u2063at home (while opening the country up to its own invasion from the southern border).<\/p>\n<p>All\u200d of \u200dthose are defensible positions \u2014 particularly the\u2063 third one.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s true that \u200dthe Russian aggression <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/worse-obamas-red-line-biden-gives-putin-green-light-invade-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe \u200cBiden invited<\/a> \u2062is \u2063a\u2064 special horror in the world, \u200band\u200d natural American distaste for tyranny and sympathy for a courageous underdog make the plight of Ukrainians irresistible.<\/p>\n<p>But the Democratic Party\u2019s\u200c domestic politics \u2014\u200d especially \u2064since the\u200c 2016 election \u2014\u200d have\u200d poisoned the \u2063well of bipartisanship.<\/p>\n<p>Abroad, the president\u2019s shameful\u200b withdrawal from Afghanistan\u2062 humiliated the United \u200cStates\u200d on the world\u2062 stage, but\u200c his\u2064 party members backed him to\u2063 a man \u200cand\u200b woman.\u200c On Ukraine, Democrats have made the country\u2019s security a political football for years \u2014 \u2062even using it as\u200d the setting for their ludicrously lame attempt to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/breaking-donald-j-trump-acquitted-charges-democratic-leaders-defeated\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">impeach then-President Donald Trump<\/a> in 2019-20.<\/p>\n<p>Conservatives are supposed to believe them\u2062 now?<\/p>\n<p>Add\u200c to that the peculiarities \u200bof Biden \u200chimself \u2014 \u2062a man inextricably linked to\u2064 potential corruption in Ukraine by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/explosive-new-hunter-biden-emails-reveal-help-take-ex-ukrainian-prosecutor-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">not only \u200chis son<\/a> but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fired-ukrainian-prosecutor-accuses-joe-biden-corruption-bribed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">his own boastful words<\/a> \u2014\u2062 and there\u2019s a witches\u2019 brew of bad \u2063faith\u200c big\u200b enough to drown even the most idealistic of American support for Volodymyr Zelenskyy\u2019s government.<\/p>\n<p>And now this?<\/p>\n<p>A secret McCarthy deal with Democrats over aid\u2063 to Ukraine would \u2064be a good deal worse than simple disagreements over \u2063the arc of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/whos-really-to-blame-for-misinformation-online\/\" title=\"Who\u2019s Really\u00a0To Blame For Misinformation Online?\u00a0\">entitlement spending<\/a>, say.\u200b It would \u200bbe a breach of trust with his own party conference \u2014 and its voters \u2014 that\u200d the \u200bspeaker would\u2062 have a real\u2062 problem justifying.<\/p>\n<p>If it\u2019s \u2063true, it could\u2062 well send \u200chim back into the Republican ranks. They \u200bclaimed that McCarthy \u2063is\u200d expected to\u2064 advance a bill for an up-or-down \u2063vote on the matter.
