One Democrat and 90 Republicans voted against it.<\/p>\n<p>After the vote, \u2064McCarthy \u2064expressed\u2062 his frustration, stating, &#8220;You can always count\u200c on Americans to do what\u2019s right after they\u2019ve\u2064 exhausted every other option.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">McCarthy: If you\u200d have members of your conference that will\u200d not \u200dlet you vote for\u200b appropriations bills and will \u2064not \u200dvote for a stopgap measure so the only option is to shut down and not pay our troops I don\u2019t want to be a part of that team. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/iMnyrgxAVb\">pic.twitter.com\/iMnyrgxAVb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Acyn (@Acyn) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Acyn\/status\/1708201206357651487?\">September 30, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/republican-house-heavyweights-floated-replacements-speaker-mccarthy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">McCarthy<\/a> acknowledged\u200b that he had listened to various opinions within his conference leading up to the vote.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I tried every possible way, listening to every single person in the caucus,&#8221; McCarthy said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was \u200dtough, but we got it through,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy also mentioned that some members of his own conference refused \u2063to vote for the \u200cstopgap bill that failed on Friday, which included measures to secure the border and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/newt-gingrich-why-joe-odea-can-beat-sen-michael-bennet-in-colorado\/\" title=\"Newt Gingrich: Why Joe O\u2019Dea Can Beat Sen. Michael Bennet in Colorado\">cut wasteful spending<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The bill \u2063that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mccarthy-says-he-doesnt-want-to-be-part-of-republican-team-after-passing-continuing-resolution\/\" title=\"McCarthy rejects Republican team after passing Continuing Resolution.\">ultimately passed eliminated \u200caid<\/a> for Ukraine,\u200b which conservative Republicans opposed, as well as spending\u200b cuts that\u2064 conservative Republicans had \u2063wanted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So if you have members in your conference \u200bthat \u200cwon\u2019t let you vote \u2062for appropriation bills, doesn\u2019t\u2064 want an omnibus, and won\u2019t vote for\u2064 a stopgap measure \u2014 so the only answer is to shut down and not pay our troops, I don\u2019t want to be a part of \u2064that team,&#8221; McCarthy \u2063emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I want to \u2062be a part of a conservative \u200bgroup that wants to get things done,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gaetz-delivers-stunning-rebuke-mccarthy-will-see-bail-failed-speaker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Matt Gaetz<\/a> of Florida had \u200cpreviously threatened to initiate a process to remove McCarthy as Speaker \u2063if \u2062he bypassed conservatives and gained support from Democrats, which McCarthy did.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If somebody \u200dwants\u200d to make a motion against me, \u2063bring\u200b it,&#8221; McCarthy responded. &#8220;There \u200chas to be an adult in the room.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There\u2019s no bill that can pass with one party\u2064 or the other,&#8221; McCarthy argued. &#8220;When\u2064 are you\u2064 guys gonna get over \u200cthat it\u2019s alright that you put America first? That it\u2019s alright if Republicans and Democrats \u200djoin together to do what is right.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Following the vote on the \u2062stopgap \u200bbill, Gaetz attempted to get the attention of the \u2062chair for the day, Republican Rep. Steve Womack of Arkansas, but was not recognized as the House adjourned until Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Gaetz later stated that McCarthy&#8217;s speakership was &#8220;on some tenuous ground.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However, not everyone\u2064 was abandoning McCarthy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think Kevin McCarthy has\u200d done a phenomenal job as\u2063 speaker. I think he\u2019s been continually underestimated. And here again today, you saw him lead,&#8221; Republican Rep. Mike Lawler of New York said. &#8220;So at the end of the \u2064day, if somebody wants to bring a motion to vacate, that\u2019s their business. But it\u200d will be defeated.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Due \u200cto the expectation that \u200cthe stopgap bill would pass \u200bthe Senate, the House will no longer have a two-week break in October.
