Katie Hobbs ultimately vetoed the bill.<\/p>\n<p>A video recently surfaced showing \u200dDemocratic Sen. Christine Marsh expressing her opposition to the bill during the\u2063 debate and voting. The video, posted by the AZ War Room, labeled her comments as &#8220;sick and deranged.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">An unbelievably troubling video.<\/p>\n<p>Christine Marsh\u2019s message to young girls who are uncomfortable showering \u2062with biological males \u2014 <strong>Get a shower curtain.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s\u2063 sick, and \u200dit\u2019s demeaning.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/LD4?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#LD4<\/a> needs new representation. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/XKXSBKfag2\">pic.twitter.com\/XKXSBKfag2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 AZ\u200d War Room (@AZVictoryPAC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AZVictoryPAC\/status\/1706329715542507884?\">September 25, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Marsh suggested that passing a law requiring schools to have shower curtains could have resolved the \u200cissue. She stood by her statement, saying, &#8220;That should be the law: Schools have to have shower curtains, \u200bperiod. End\u2063 of story.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to Marsh, most students are\u200d not bothered by having students of a different sex in their\u2062 bathroom. She believes it\u2062 is stigmatizing and discriminatory to exclude transgender students\u2062 from common spaces.<\/p>\n<p>American Principles Project President Terry Schilling found Marsh&#8217;s idea offensive. He stated, &#8220;To believe\u2063 that young\u200b girls should \u2062be comfortable showering with males, behind a shower curtain or not, is\u200b utterly\u2064 deranged.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Republican Sen. John Kavanagh, who supported the bill, argued that girls, in particular, deserve the \u200cprotection it sought to \u200bprovide. He expressed concern about \u2063forcing young girls to shower \u200cnext to biological males.<\/p>\n<p>Marsh, a former teacher with 29\u200b years of \u2062experience, has faced criticism for her stance on this issue.
