San Francisco Supervisor Ahsha \u2062Safa\u00ed, who filed paperwork in May \u200bfor \u2064the city\u2019s\u200c top\u2062 political job, is also considered a prominent \u200dchallenger.<\/p>\n<h3>Daniel Lurie<\/h3>\n<p>Lurie, 46, is \u200cthe founder and CEO of the nonprofit group Tipping Point Community. \u200dHe officially launched his bid \u200cto unseat Breed on\u200c Tuesday\u200b at a rally at the Potrero Hill Neighborhood \u200bHouse.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis is not a\u200b crisis of resources. This is a crisis of leadership,\u201d Lurie\u200c said. \u201cWe \u2064don\u2019t have a mayor who\u2019s challenging the system. We have a mayor \u200dwho\u2019s entrenched in it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s been\u2064 on the Board of Supervisors or in\u200b the \u2064City Hall for over \u2063a decade. What do we get? No solutions. We get excuses\u2064 and finger-pointing,\u201d Lurie added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Under \u200ca Lurie administration,\u200b he promises to focus on ending \u2064\u201copen-air drug markets\u201d and changing the perception that lawlessness is acceptable in the city.<\/p>\n<p>San Francisco is on track to have the highest number \u2064of accidental \u2062overdose deaths in its history this\u200b year,\u200d driven by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/atlantic-city-shutters-needle-exchange-site-amid-spike-in-deadly-overdoses\/\" title=\"Atlantic City Shutters Needle Exchange Site Amid Spike In Deadly Overdoses\">synthetic opioid fentanyl<\/a> \u2062that is being\u2062 seized at record levels in the city\u2019s open-air \u2062drug markets.<\/p>\n<p>Breed called in former\u200c San Francisco Mayor and current Governor Gavin Newsom to assist\u200b with the crisis, deploying the National Guard and partnering with the California Highway Patrol to tackle \u200bincreased drug use.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe have too\u200d many people \u2063that have been in power\u200d for \u2064far too long doing things the same way they&#8217;ve always been done,\u201d \u2062Lurie said in \u200ca \u2063campaign video. \u201cWe have tremendous resources. We \u200dhave everything\u2063 at our disposal, and yet our streets are unsafe. We need to end the\u200b era of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/san-francisco-recalls-district-attorney-chesa-boudin\/\" title=\"San Francisco recalls District Attorney Chesa Boudin\">open-air drug dealing<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Part of Lurie\u2019s plan\u200c to curb crime \u2062and \u200cdecrease 911 response\u200d times is to boost staffing in \u2063the police department, addressing concerns about a dire shortage of police officers.<\/p>\n<p>As \u2064of July, San\u200b Francisco is about 600 officers short of its recommended staffing levels, but the latest class \u2064of recruits is \u2062the largest and \u200cmost diverse\u2062 the \u200ccity has seen in three years.<\/p>\n<p>Lurie also pledges to \u2063provide enough homeless \u2064shelter beds for all\u200c San Franciscans who seek \u2064one, as \u2064the city grapples \u2062with an overflow of\u2064 homeless encampments.<\/p>\n<h3>Ahsha Safa\u00ed<\/h3>\n<p>The second-term District 11\u2064 supervisor, Safa\u00ed,\u200d 50, filed paperwork in May to \u200cchallenge Breed \u200cin\u200c the 2024 election. He has been critical of\u200c Breed\u2019s performance in addressing the\u200d city\u2019s drug crisis,\u200d rising \u2062crime rates,\u200c and improving \u200dhomeless services.<\/p>\n<p>Safa\u00ed\u200c plans to\u2062 focus on the creation of sober living \u200benvironments and helping\u2063 people with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/san-francisco-mayor-london-breed-gets-early-challengers\/\" title=\"San Francisco Mayor London Breed faces early challengers.\">substance abuse disorders access recovery\u200b services<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He also aims to fill\u2064 vacant positions in the\u2064 police \u2062department, including 911\u200b call \u2064operators and police officers, \u2063to address \u2062the staffing shortage.<\/p>\n<p>Safa\u00ed sponsored Proposition C, a \u200d2022 November \u200dballot measure that created the\u200b Homelessness\u200c Oversight Commission, despite Breed&#8217;s opposition.
