This⁢ bill received overwhelming bipartisan support, with only 90 Republicans⁤ and one Democrat voting against it.

House Republicans Present 45-Day Continuing Resolution

During a closed-door conference meeting on Saturday morning, House Republican leaders revealed ⁤their plan. ‍They proposed a 45-day stopgap measure that would maintain current government⁤ spending levels and include disaster funding, but exclude any aid ‌for Ukraine. This proposal came ⁣after the House failed to advance a Republican-led continuing resolution the previous night, which aimed to cut spending levels and include the party’s border security bill. As a result, GOP leaders decided to pursue a two-party solution.

Initially, Democrats expressed opposition to the stopgap measure. However, they ultimately ⁢voted in favor of it, pushing the legislation ⁤across the finish‌ line. Party leaders are now highlighting its passage as a Democratic victory, ⁤as it forced Republicans to advance a clean continuing resolution⁢ without any⁢ of their policy provisions attached.

“We went from devastating cuts that would have impacted the health, safety, and economic wellbeing of the American people [to a] spending agreement that meets the ‍needs of the American people across the board [and is] ‌entirely consistent with what Democrats have said from the‌ very beginning: The only⁢ path forward a bipartisan spending agreement that keeps government open avoids a ‌catastrophic ‍government‌ shutdown,” said House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. “The American people⁣ have‌ won. Extreme‌ MAGA Republicans have lost.”

Minority Whip Katherine Clark echoed similar sentiments, taking credit for the bill’s passage and portraying it as a defeat for McCarthy.

“Today, Democrats⁣ came to the rescue,” she said. “Speaker⁣ McCarthy admitted defeat and asked ⁣Democrats to put out the fire that he and his party had started.”

Some House Republicans expressed outrage over the spending legislation. Several hard-line conservatives even renewed their threats to remove McCarthy from his speakership. Rep. Matt ⁢Gaetz (R-FL) has repeatedly warned that he would file a motion to vacate ‌if McCarthy advanced a continuing resolution with Democratic support. Gaetz ‍stated on Saturday that the speaker was on “tenuous ground.”

“The fact that we’re reverting to the normal ⁢muscle memory of Washington to pass a continuing resolution is certainly disappointing,” he said.

McCarthy, however, dismissed any threats to his leadership position, defending the spending deal ⁢as necessary to avoid a shutdown.

“If somebody wants a motion against me, bring it,” McCarthy said. “There has to be an adult ⁣in the room.”

The continuing resolution will now move to the Senate, where lawmakers could vote on‌ it as early as Saturday evening. If approved, the bill will then be sent to President Joe Biden for his approval, just ‌hours before the funding deadline.

CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE ⁣WASHINGTON EXAMINER

What other ⁢pressing issues are democratic leaders now turning their attention to after the passage of the ⁤temporary spending bill

⁣ Uld have harmed our most vulnerable citizens to a temporary funding bill that provides stability and keeps the government functioning,” said‌ Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. “This is a win for ⁢the American people and a testament to the power of working together to find common ground.”

The temporary spending bill, known as a continuing resolution, will fund the government at current levels until November 21st. This gives Congress more time to negotiate‍ a long-term spending plan and avoid a ⁢repeat of the 35-day government shutdown that occurred earlier this year.⁢

While the bill received broad support in the House, some Republicans criticized it for not including funding for President Trump’s border wall. However, Democrats argue that funding for the border wall is⁤ a separate issue‌ that should be addressed separately and not tied ‍to the funding of the government⁢.

With the passage of the ‌temporary spending bill, democratic ‍leaders are⁤ now turning their attention⁣ to other pressing⁢ issues, including gun‌ control, healthcare, and climate ⁣change. They see this victory as⁢ a stepping stone towards achieving their policy goals and ensuring a functioning government that works‍ for all Americans.

“Now that we have averted a shutdown, we can focus on ⁤addressing the needs of the American people,” said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. “We have important legislation to pass and we are ready to get to work.”

This temporary funding measure is⁣ a reminder of the importance of compromise⁤ and bipartisan cooperation in achieving legislative successes. While tensions ‌between the two parties⁤ remain high on many issues, moments like this show that when both sides are willing to ‍work together, progress can be made.

The passage of this temporary spending bill may only be a short-term solution, but it‍ represents a victory ⁢for democratic leaders and their ability to navigate the complexities of ⁣governing.
