Mary Peltola \u2063(D-AK) and Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA), did not cast their votes on the bill.<\/p>\n<p>The sole Democrat to oppose the stop-gap bill was Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL).<\/p>\n<p>If\u200b both chambers of Congress fail to agree on a continuing resolution before October 1, a government shutdown\u200c will occur, resulting in furloughs or\u200c unpaid \u200bwork for hundreds \u2063of thousands of\u200d federal workers. The\u2063 last government shutdown took place in\u2063 December 2018 and lasted for 35 days, concluding in January 2019.<\/p>\n<p>A government \u200dshutdown would entail the closure of numerous federal agencies, except \u2062for essential \u200cservices. Those required to \u2064work\u200b during the shutdown would do \u200cso \u2063without receiving\u200d pay until the government reopens.
