A poll taken the day after the debate by\u2064 Morning Consult,\u2064 a company \u200bthat tracks the\u2063 national\u200b ratings of\u200c elected leaders, shows a five-point increase \u2064for the former president, with 63 percent\u200b of potential GOP voters now supporting him, up\u200d from 58 percent on Monday.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cDoes anyone see a VP in that group? Glenn Youngkin as their\u2064 potential candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Youngkin \u2062gained prominence in the Republican party when he defeated Democrat Terry McAuliffe in the governor&#8217;s race in \u2064a \u2062state that President Joe Biden \u200chad won by 10\u2063 points. His victory was attributed\u2063 to his stance on parental rights \u2062and culture \u200dwars.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Red Vest Retreat,&#8221; a \u200cclosed gathering of\u2062 major Republican donors, is planning to meet in October to rally behind Gov. Glenn\u200d Youngkin. While the\u200b event is officially focused on winning control of the Virginia General\u200d Assembly, it is unofficially being\u2063 used\u2063 as an opportunity to push \u200bYoungkin into the \u2062Republican presidential race.<\/p>\n<p>Youngkin&#8217;s potential run is seen as a \u200dlast-minute addition to the presidential\u200b race, \u2063as donors\u2063 and\u2064 anti-Trump Republicans are\u200c considering ways to support and\u2062 prepare for a national campaign.<\/p>\n<p>This desperate push for a new candidate reflects the \u200bpowerlessness\u200b many Republicans \u2063feel as Trump continues to dominate the field, disregarding criminal indictments and concerns\u200c over his rhetoric.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Opinion \u2063by Robert Costa:\u2063 Drafting Youngkin as \u200da \u200blast-minute addition to the sclerotic\u200b Republican presidential field is something\u2062 that \u200chas lingered for \u2064months as a donor\u2062 fantasy. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ByEZxF0dK6\">https:\/\/t.co\/ByEZxF0dK6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The \u200bWashington Post (@washingtonpost) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/washingtonpost\/status\/1707730259192287274?\">September 29, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to \u2064the Washington Post, former United States Attorney General William &#8220;Bill&#8221; Barr and Rupert Murdoch, chairman emeritus\u200d of\u2062 Fox Corporation and News\u200d Corp, are quietly supporting a potential \u200dYoungkin bid.<\/p>\n<p>Youngkin himself is keeping his options \u200dopen, using the term &#8220;optionality&#8221; to describe his approach.<\/p>\n<p>In an appearance on \u200dCBS \u200dNews, \u200cit was mentioned that Youngkin didn&#8217;t explicitly rule\u200b out \u2062a presidential run, leaving the door open for speculation.<\/p>\n<p>However, Youngkin has\u2064 concerns about potential attacks from Trump\u2062 if he \u2064decides \u2062to join the race.<\/p>\n<p>A late entry into the race\u2062 could further add chaos\u200b to an already crowded \u2063GOP primary field, making it even\u2062 more difficult for those not already committed to\u200d Trump to make a\u200c choice.<\/p>\n<p>It appears to be\u200b a Hail Mary from a minority\u200c within the \u2062Republican\u2063 party who are\u2062 desperate to see Trump\u200b out of power, even \u2062if \u200bit means risking the general election.<\/p>\n<p>A Washington Post-ABC\u2063 poll released on September\u2064 24 \u200cshowed\u200d Biden \u2064trailing\u200c Trump by a significant 10\u200c percentage points.<\/p>\n<p>With such \u200dmargins, it&#8217;s questionable why genuine\u200d Republicans\u2064 would want to \u200cintroduce \u200ban unknown candidate \u200dinto the \u200cmix, unless there are personal reasons behind it.<\/p>\n<p>It seems more likely \u2064that an additional candidate\u200d would only dilute the already weak support for candidates like \u200dDeSantis, \u200dwho\u200d is currently in second place.<\/p>\n<p>At this point, Trump appears to\u2062 be untouchable.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"author_subscription_pitch\">.author_subscription_pitch p{margin:5px;}<\/p>\n<p><em><b>A Note from Our Staff:<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Did you know that 90 percent of advertisers \u2064will have nothing to\u2062 do with\u200d The Western Journal?
