In\u200d this\u200c case, however, Fisch seemed to know something even Senate Republicans did not.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/can-republicans-block-dianne-feinstein-judiciary-committee-replacement-2023-9#:~:text=Dianne%20Feinstein's%20seat%20on%20the,no%20interest%20in%20doing%20that.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Insider<\/a> reported that some\u2064 Senate Republicans assumed \u2063that\u2062 a Democrat would replace Feinstein\u2064 on the Judiciary Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocrats have a majority in the \u2063Senate. They won\u2064 the election, so they are entitled to a majority on all the committees,\u201d Republican Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hawley-demands-answers-garland-apparent-lie-senate-fbi-targeting-catholics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Josh Hawley<\/a> of Missouri \u2064said.<\/p>\n<p>Still, each of the Senate\u2019s 49 Republicans has the power \u200cat least to delay changes in committee memberships. A single Republican objection would force a vote of \u200cthe full \u200cchamber.<\/p>\n<p>In\u200c that event, another 40 \u200bsenators would have to vote against beginning debate on\u2063 the motion. Then, \u200dthe Judiciary Committee would remain deadlocked between 10 Democrats and \u206310 \u200dRepublicans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think anyone\u2019s going to do that,\u201d Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida said. \u200c\u201cSome Democrat\u2019s gonna fill that spot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republican Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-dr-phil-warns-ted-cruz-dangerous-chaos-agents-targeting-kids-algorithms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ted Cruz<\/a> of Texas \u2063agreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI assume it will be \u200bhandled \u200dthe same way it \u2062has traditionally been handled,\u201d Cruz said.<\/p>\n<p>Other Republicans sounded more noncommittal, using \u200dwords like \u201cprobably\u201d or saying that they had not thought \u200dabout\u200b the\u200c matter.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz \u200dand Hawley serve on the Judiciary Committee.<\/p>\n<p>In short, if\u200b Republicans plan to prevent a \u200bDemocrat from\u200d replacing Feinstein on\u200b the committee, they \u200dhave\u200b not said so.<\/p>\n<p>We \u200dcan interpret\u200c this in several ways.<\/p>\n<p>One,\u2063 Feinstein passed away\u200c little more than a \u200cday \u200dago. At a minimum, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fetterman-leaves-case-bud-light-note-gop-mocking-senate-dress-code\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Republicans<\/a> regard\u200c it as bad \u200dform to begin talking about how they might\u200c capitalize politically.<\/p>\n<p>This \u200binterpretation leaves room \u2063for the possibility that, in time, they might use \u2062their leverage.<\/p>\n<p>Two, Republicans have no intention of playing hardball, even if it would derail Biden\u2019s judges.<\/p>\n<p>Time will tell, of course, but we \u2062should\u200b bet on the second interpretation proving\u2064 true.<\/p>\n<p>After all, the Senate by its very nature \u2062encourages\u200b an abiding respect for institutional precedents. The Founders designed it that way. They had gravitas in mind. We\u200c cannot quarrel with such conservatism.<\/p>\n<p>That would be the charitable way of looking at it.<\/p>\n<p>In\u200c the\u2062 meantime, we\u200b have more cynical reasons \u2063for\u200d expecting \u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/senate-unanimously-passes-measure-directly-address-fettermans-inappropriate-conduct\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate<\/a> Republicans to do nothing.<\/p>\n<p>For one thing, every large institution promotes a go-along-to-get-along mentality.<\/p>\n<p>In places\u2062 like the U.S. Senate, this results in a \u2064kind of nauseating \u200dcollegiality at public expense. Do not what your constituents would want; do what your office neighbors and lunch buddies will \u2062approve.<\/p>\n<p>Then, we have the problem of the Senate\u2019s composition.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin of\u200b Illinois <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/about\/members\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chairs<\/a> the Judiciary Committee. Republican Sen. \u200bLindsey Graham of South Carolina serves as the ranking \u200cmember. Durbin and Graham \u200bhave spent a combined 46\u200b years \u200bin the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, swamp creatures lurk everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats\u200d and Republicans might tussle around the edges,\u200b but\u2063 they\u2062 cannot wait to send money to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/uncovered-american-tax-dollars-funding-way-just-weapons-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ukraine<\/a>.
