The labor ⁢dispute has now entered its 15th day, and UAW President Shawn Fain announced that an additional 7,000 members will ‌join the strike. This includes 4,600 workers from⁤ Ford’s Chicago assembly plant and 2,300 from GM’s Lansing Delta Township plant.

“Our courageous members of these two plants are the next wave of reinforcements in our fight for a record contract,” said Mr. Fain in a Facebook Live ‌video message.

Related Stories

    UAW’s Real Enemy ‍Is Forced ‍EV Conversion

Published on 9/28/2023

‘Bidenomics,’ Push for EVs to Blame for UAW Strike, Republicans Say in⁣ Fiery ⁢Debate

Published on⁤ 9/28/2023

A total of 25,000 UAW-represented members will be on strike, leading to ⁢a halt in production for several brands, including Buick, Chevrolet, Ford, and Lincoln. While the UAW claims that negotiations are at a standstill, GM states that it has not ⁤received a comprehensive counteroffer.

“Calling more strikes⁢ is just for the headlines, not real progress. The number⁣ of people‌ negatively impacted by these strikes is growing and includes our customers who buy and love the products ‌we build,” said Gerald Johnson, GM Executive Vice President for Global Manufacturing.

Stellantis, however, will not be affected by the strike escalation as the⁤ company has presented substantial counter offers. Contract talks will continue, according ⁣to Mr. Fain.

“Until then, we will keep building our arsenal of democracy, and we will ⁤win. Our strategy is working,” he said. “We knew going into this fight that‌ the road ahead was going to be difficult, and we knew that it was unlikely this will be quick.”

Becoming Violent

Two weeks into the strike, tensions are beginning to boil ‍over, with multiple instances of violence reported at the picket lines. UAW leader Mr. Fain blamed GM and Stellantis for the latest cases of violence against striking members. ‌He cited three specific examples, including assaults and the brandishing of firearms.

“These attacks on our members exercising their constitutional rights to strike and‌ picket will not be tolerated,” Mr. ⁤Fain said. “Shame on these companies for hiring violent scabs to try to break our strike.”

In response, Stellantis ⁤rejected the union’s characterization of the incidents ‍and accused the UAW of making misleading statements. ‍GM confirmed that a third-party contractor was suspected of assaulting picketing employees and is cooperating with ‌the authorities in their investigation.

Politics and Labor

President Joe ‍Biden visited a picket line in Michigan and ‍expressed his support ‌for the union’s demand for a ⁤40 percent pay increase. Former President Donald Trump, on the other hand, criticized President Biden and his administration’s policies, expressing doubt about the effectiveness of the strikes.

The UAW, the only major labor union that has not endorsed President Biden’s 2024 reelection bid, continues to fight for its demands.

What are the main demands ‍of the UAW in the⁣ current negotiations with automakers?

Ow on strike is not an indicator of the state of negotiations,” said GM spokesperson David Barnas. “We are committed to reaching an agreement that is fair and protects the interests of both our employees and our company.”

The main ⁤sticking points ‍in the negotiations between the UAW and the ⁢automakers are wages, healthcare benefits, and job security. The UAW is demanding higher wages, ⁢improved healthcare coverage, ‍and ⁣stronger job protection measures. The union argues that its members deserve a⁣ fair share of the automakers’⁣ profits, especially considering the record profits that both Ford and GM have reported in recent years.

On the other hand, Ford⁣ and GM are concerned about the rising cost of healthcare and the need to⁢ remain competitive ⁣in a rapidly changing industry. Both automakers are facing pressure to invest heavily in electric and autonomous vehicles, which require significant financial resources. They argue that any increase in wages or benefits must be balanced with the need for ⁢long-term sustainability and profitability.

The UAW strike has already had a significant impact on the automotive industry. In addition to the production stoppage‍ at Ford and GM plants, many suppliers ⁣have also been affected, causing disruptions throughout the ⁣supply chain. This has‌ led to temporary layoffs and reduced‌ hours ‍for thousands of workers in the industry.

The strike is also having repercussions on the ⁢wider economy. According to estimates, the strike is costing the automakers‍ millions of dollars each day in lost production, while ‍also affecting the earnings of workers who are not on strike but are facing reduced hours. Additionally, other industries that rely on ⁣the automotive sector, ‌such as parts manufacturers and logistics companies, are feeling the effects of⁢ the strike.

As negotiations continue, both sides face the challenge of finding a compromise that satisfies⁤ the demands of the ⁤UAW while also ⁢addressing the concerns of the automakers. The longer the strike continues, the greater the economic impact will⁣ be for ⁤all parties involved. Both the UAW and the automakers must come to the table with an open ‌mind and‌ a willingness ⁢to find common ground ⁢in order to bring an end to the ‍strike and resume production.

In the meantime, UAW members are standing firm in their demands and showing solidarity on the ‍picket lines. They believe that their sacrifices and collective action are ‌necessary to secure a‌ fair and equitable contract. As ⁣negotiations stall, ‌the resolve of the UAW ‍and ⁢its members only grows stronger, as they continue to fight for their rights⁢ and the future of the American⁢ auto industry.

The United Auto Workers (UAW) will escalate its strike with two of the Big Three automakers—Ford and General Motors—as progress in negotiations has stalled with the labor dispute entering its 15th day.UAW President Shawn Fain announced on Sept. 29 that an additional roughly 7,000 members would “stand up and go out on strike,” with 4,600

https://cndimages.nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com/breaking-news/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/IMG_2758-scaled-1.jpg
[543

post-2050161","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-epoch-times
https://cndimages.nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com/breaking-news/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/IMG_2758-scaled-1.jpg
["GET
