We are on \u200ba street that should be bustling all\u200b the \u200ctime, and the foot traffic is \u2063just \u2062gone.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On Tuesday morning, dozens of merchants and\u200d residents held\u200d a press conference outside Le Cheval,\u2062 an Old \u200dOakland Vietnamese restaurant whose \u200downers\u2064 have decided to\u200b close permanently this Saturday after 38 years of operation due to an increase in\u2063 vehicle break-ins and\u200b commercial burglaries \u200cin the surrounding area.<\/p>\n<p>Vietnamese\u200c Chamber of Commerce leader Dr. Jennifer Tran said that without basic safety there is no\u200d community.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWithout basic safety, there is no business,\u201d Tran said. \u201cWithout basic safety, \u2064there is \u2064no \u2063community. Without safety, there\u200b is no city. Without \u2063basic safety, there is\u200d only chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Reportedly, \u2063District 5\u200c Councilmember\u200b Noel Gallo,\u2064 former Alameda County District Attorney candidate Terry Wiley, \u2062Oakland \u2064NAACP \u200cpresident Cynthia Adams, and Calabash owner Nigel Jones also\u2062 spoke at the event. <\/p>\n<p>Former Oakland Mayoral Candidate Loren \u200cTaylor and members of Neighbors Together\u2063 Oakland,\u200c a nonprofit, attended \u200dbut did not speak at\u2062 the event.<\/p>\n<p>According to a weekly crime report released on Monday,\u200d the Oakland Police Department (OPD) has received 1,109 reports of commercial burglaries across the city.
