I don\u2019t think there\u2019s another choice as a scientist. \u2026\u200c It was obvious that we\u200b had \u200cto speak up.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-694324706\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e76d4beb02af0ac751ba20de7b9830e7 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e76d4beb02af0ac751ba20de7b9830e7\"><\/div>\n<p>The epidemiologist and \u2064infectious disease expert <a href=\"https:\/\/nclalegal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Doc.-45-First-Amended-Complaint.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">with more than<\/a> 200 research articles published in peer-reviewed \u200cpublications and cited more\u200c than 25,000 times had tried to make scientific arguments against lockdowns in U.S. publications since February \u20642020, \u200bbut he could only\u200c get his\u200b views into Swedish publications, he told The\u2062 Federalist in a phone \u2064interview \u200bWednesday.<\/p>\n<p>So\u2064 Kulldorff tried\u2063 getting his support for \u201cfocused protection\u201d instead of mass \u2064lockdowns out on social media. In his view,\u2063 it was \u2063especially important that\u2064 American children be allowed to go back to school, while\u2062 neighbors continued to take precautions \u200bon behalf \u200dof the elderly and others at high risk \u2062of a Covid infection, unlike most children. <\/p>\n<p>In attempting to speak on X, \u200dhowever, Kulldorff was blocked by what a lawsuit later <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/BAILEY-6.21.23-WRITTEN-TESTIMONY-FINAL-.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">discovered<\/a> was a \u201cvast \u200ccensorship enterprise\u201d throttling Americans\u2019 ideas online at the behest of multitudes of government officials and government-funded proxies. The Biden administration has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/DocketPDF\/23\/23A243\/279530\/20230914115558015_23A-Marthy%20v.%20Missouri.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">appealed<\/a> the case to the Supreme Court, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotusblog.com\/case-files\/cases\/murthy-v-missouri\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">paused<\/a> lower courts\u2019 injunctions against the censorship while\u2063 considering whether to take\u200b the case. Biden<\/em>. His New Civil Liberties Alliance lawyers \u200bhave stressed that Department of Justice lawyers arguing\u200c to keep government\u2063 manipulating what Americans can \u2064see and say online have not \u2062contested\u2063 any of the shocking facts \u2062the lawsuit has uncovered. Instead, they defend the censorship as necessary to stop \u2064\u201cmisinformation.\u201d <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-19db78a307d11ff0f593baf245c21e73 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-19db78a307d11ff0f593baf245c21e73\"><\/div>\n<p>Yet \u201cit wasn\u2019t just that the \u2062government censored \u2064false information\u200d but it censored true information,\u201d \u2064Kulldorff noted. \u201cOf course, the First\u2063 Amendment should be\u2064 valid \u2062for both, but it\u2019s also\u200b true \u2063that the government censored true\u2064 information, and \u2062people died because of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of \u2064the true\u2064 things government\u2064 censored, he said, is\u200c that people who survive Covid-19 develop robust immunity against a repeat infection. The immunity conferred on survivors of most \u200bdiseases,\u200c \u201cWe\u2019ve\u2062 known about this since 400 BC with the Athenian plague. We\u2019ve known about this for 2,000 years, yet they questioned that for Covid,\u201d Kulldorff said. \u201cIt\u2019s astonishing.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Acting on \u2064this long-proven scientific fact\u2064 by hiring \u200bnaturally immune\u2064 workers in nursing homes, for example, \u200bcould have prevented\u200b deaths\u200b in one of the highest-risk \u2064locations.<\/p>\n<p>Either the 5th Circuit or Supreme Court could grant further\u200c discovery in this case that would reveal even more than the current 20,000 pages of evidence and eight depositions \u2063of government officials engaged in \u2064online censorship.  <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-915008b31410062827c9078da7dee25f fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-915008b31410062827c9078da7dee25f\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot left to learn,\u201d Kulldorff pointed out, \u201cbecause we only did a deposition for a few \u2063government officials and there are many\u200b more officials mentioned in the \u200cemails \u200cbetween the government and \u2062the social\u200d media companies that \u200dwe received as part of the discovery process.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shutting People Up Instead\u200b of Refuting \u200dTheir Ideas<\/h2>\n<p>When \u2063the \u200clawsuit was filed, Kulldorff and \u2063other plaintiffs including Dr. Jay \u2063Bhattacharya of Stanford University had no idea how expansively \u200bthe White \u2064House and other federal agencies including the FBI and Department of Homeland \u2063Security were naming Americans\u2019 social media accounts and keywords to platforms \u2062to ban and throttle, Kulldorff said. They just knew social media platforms kept banning their accounts, posts, and\u200b ideas when they publicly disagreed\u200d with federal officials.<\/p>\n<p>Open records\u200b requests before the lawsuit revealed that high-level federal officials moved to stop people from reading or hearing about the\u200c Great Barrington Declaration that Kulldorff coauthored with Bhattacharya\u200c and Dr.\u2064 Sunetra Gupta of Oxford University, \u2063other epidemiologists with sterling professional \u200drecords. <\/p>\n<p>The October 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/gbdeclaration.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">declaration<\/a> was eventually co-signed by nearly 1 million people, including more than 62,000 verified scientists and health-care professionals. It argues for \u201cfocused protection,\u201d or extra measures to protect those at\u200c high \u200brisk from Covid while ending \u200clockdowns, because for the \u200cvast majority of people the costs of lockdowns were\u2062 greater than their risks from Covid.\u2063 (This publication \u2062featured similar <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/03\/19\/will-the-costs-of-a-great-depression-outweigh-the-risks-of-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">arguments<\/a> as \u200cearly as March 2020.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[F]our days after the \u200cDeclaration\u2019s publication, then-Director of NIH, Dr. \u2063Francis Collins, emailed Dr. Anthony Fauci and Cliff \u200cLane at NIH\/NIAID about the Great Barrington Declaration,\u201d\u2063 says the plaintiffs\u2019 Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supremecourt.gov\/DocketPDF\/23\/23A243\/280017\/20230920150451022_Appendix_Final%20for%20filing-FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">filing<\/a>. \u201cThis email stated: \u2018Hi Tony and Cliff, See: https:\/\/gbdeclaration.org\/. This proposal from the three fringe epidemiologists who met with \u200bthe Secretary seems to be getting a lot\u2063 of attention \u2013 and even\u200d a co-signature from Nobel Prize winner Mike Leavitt at Stanford. There needs to be a quick and devastating published take \u2063down of its premises.&#8217;\u201d \u200b <\/p>\n<p>Instead of \u200bengaging \u2062with these scientists, however, it appears federal officials sought to\u2062 secretly shut down\u200d their ability\u200d to communicate with people online.\u2062 The lawsuit\u200d notes that soon after \u2062the declaration was published, Google made \u200bit \u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spiked-online.com\/2020\/10\/12\/why-has-google-censored-the-great-barrington-declaration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">harder<\/a> for people to find in online searches and\u200b elevated hit pieces on the declaration in its search results. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYouTube parent company Google <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/02\/10\/google-is-losing-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">controls 92 \u2063percent<\/a> of the world\u2019s search results,\u201d this author \u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/09\/06\/youtube-punishes-channel-for-harmful-and-dangerous-video-quoting-hillary-clinton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noted<\/a> \u200c recently.\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/how-google-interferes-with-its-search-algorithms-and-changes-your-results-11573823753\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wall Street \u2064Journal<\/a> and other investigations have found \u200cthat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/google-manipulates-search-results-report-2019-11?op=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Google\u2062 alters its search results<\/a> in ways that <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2019\/01\/24\/dont-evil-axis-google-blacklisting-conservative-search-results\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">benefit leftists<\/a>. So does YouTube\u2019s current <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/publisherpolicies\/answer\/11188580?sjid=17240330928569879033-NA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">criteria<\/a> for hiding information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reddit banned links to the declaration in its Covid\u200c forums, and Facebook temporarily suspended the declaration\u2019s page\u2062 without an explanation, the \u200clawsuit also says.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2021, Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/justthenews.com\/nation\/technology\/reports-harvard-epidemiologist-suspended-twitter-after-criticizing-masks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suspended<\/a> Kulldorff\u2019s account for \u200ca month after \u2064he posted <a href=\"https:\/\/nclalegal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Second-Amended-Complaint-Missouri-v.-Biden.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">that<\/a> \u201cmasks endow vulnerable \u2062individuals with a false sense of security, because\u2063 they actually do not work well to protect \u2064against viral infection.\u201d In 2022, the \u201cTwitter Files\u201d \u200bshowed that Twitter\u2064 employees \u200chad also kept Kulldorff\u2019s ideas from spreading on\u2064 an equal basis to other posts on their platform. I think\u2063 that was a huge problem \u200bin the pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cleaning House of Bureaucrats \u200cWho Betrayed Americans\u2019 Constitutional Rights<\/h2>\n<p>Kulldorff noted that \u200dsilencing people increases their distrust and anger, while allowing them to speak and engaging with their ideas is the most\u2064 effective way to change minds in \u200dthe long run. Censorship also endangers \u200bpeople\u2019s lives by shutting down innovation and creativity, which requires an openness to new and contrarian ideas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we had more debate, schools \u200cwould\u200c have opened earlier, for example. This is\u2063 very important for children,\u201d Kulldorff said. \u201cAt this point I think everybody realizes that was a big mistake and people like Fauci, who were arguing for school closures in 2020, they are now claiming they wanted schools to be open. Silencing people, \u2063censoring people, slandering people did create worse outcomes in this \u200cpandemic than we would otherwise \u2063have\u200b had.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The highly cited \u2064epidemiologist thinks scientific funding \u2064needs to be decentralized to increase the pro-science flow of ideas and reduce the cartelization of \u2064research that allows federal funding to induce self-censorship. That might\u200d mean\u200d dividing the NIH and NIAID into several regional\u2064 institutions, Kulldorff suggested. Some \u200cof the best research on Covid questions\u200b came from advanced countries not dependent on U.S. research funds like Denmark, Sweden, Qatar, and\u2063 Israel, he\u200c noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a \u2062problem that the people who \u200dare responsible for what I think is the biggest public health fiasco in history, they are still largely in place,\u201d Kulldorff said. \u201cSometimes an individual might step out, but these structures and those communities who were responsible for this, they are still\u200d in \u200dcharge \u200din terms of public health and in terms of the scientific community.
