It\u2019s vital to ask\u200d why people seek control over others, but we can\u2019t stop there; an active,\u2064 planned response is necessary. Evil, propaganda, manipulation, and inflated, power-seeking egos are nothing new to mankind.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Embracing the Spirit of Socrates<\/h3>\n<p>In asking myself what to do if masks\u200b come back, I look \u200cto Socrates as my role model. Although a stranger \u200dto our times, he saw the same\u2064 faults\u200b in human nature that we saw during\u200d Covid-19, \u200band which we may\u2062 see again: a denial of objective reality;\u200c the threat of \u200bthe \u200bindividual to the power of the corrupt; and immorality, fear, and indifference.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1164915711\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-230c5e28e22d692a2b01cc6d86867c43 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-230c5e28e22d692a2b01cc6d86867c43\"><\/div>\n<p>Plato\u2019s <em>Apology<\/em> lays out the trial of Socrates. He\u2019s put on the stand\u200b and accused of looking for causes other than the city\u2019s\u2063 gods\u200c and corrupting the\u2064 youth with his disinformation and fake news. Really, the power of his message threatens the Athenian authorities. Unwilling to blindly accept the \u2064government\u2019s explanations, Socrates lives a life of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sick-of-communist-like-censorship-heres-a-list-of-popular-uncensored-media-options\/\" title=\"Sick Of Communist-Like Censorship? Here\u2019s A List Of Popular Uncensored Media Options\">free-thinking<\/a> in \u200cpursuit of the truth. He \u200dsays that\u2064 individual spiritual excellence is the key to a flourishing society\u200c because it brings about public and private goods.<\/p>\n<p>But authorities who use their positions of power for personal gain will always do away with truth and individuality because it makes their roles easier. We see it \u2063with Socrates. \u2063Even after \u200che provides all the logical arguments and defenses any \u200dsensible person could understand, he\u2019s still found guilty. As punishment, he must either leave Athens and never return\u2064 or renounce his teachings.<\/p>\n<p>Socrates refused\u2062 to \u200bleave his beloved Athens or to\u2063 recant, so he died \u2063for the truth \u2014 not for his opinion or his beliefs but for reality. \u2063Rather than live inauthentically \u2014 to \u2062deny what he knows to be the truth and agree with the false \u200dnarrative \u2064imposed on him \u200dto save his own\u200c skin \u2014 he would sacrifice his life. He tells the jury that actions born of\u200c the\u2064 fear of death are the most blameworthy, \u200band our world\u200c today is in desperate need of that message.<\/p>\n<p>When we removed God, civil authority became divine and the physical world became man\u2019s highest\u2062 good.\u2064 While we are not all put on the stand to face \u200ba death\u2064 sentence, we still face the same kind of choice: do we\u2064 mask up, knowing \u2064it \u2063doesn\u2019t do anything, to make our lives easier? Or\u200d do we sacrifice the comfort of\u200d social acceptance to\u200c stand up for the truth?<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-5126f2e28b4fa552fb436bba69cd98b0 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-5126f2e28b4fa552fb436bba69cd98b0\"><\/div>\n<p>The truth is \u2064that masks are a load of\u200c garbage. They always have been and always will be. The \u200bonly thing they do is prove our politicians right: that we don\u2019t have the minds or the \u200dguts to oppose them.<\/p>\n<p>Socrates saw\u2064 that the denial of objective reality would lead to the end of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/project-veritas-strips-cnn-naked\/\" title=\"Project Veritas Strips CNN Naked\">free speech<\/a> \u2014 not free speech \u200bas the notion of having \u200cthe right to say whatever\u200d you \u2064want,\u200d whenever you want, but free speech as the\u2063 human right to\u2064 express the truth. Truth is relentlessly attacked today and not fighting back does\u2064 nothing except\u2064 further instill a societal lukewarmness that endangers any strength of conviction.<\/p>\n<p>It would\u2019ve been far easier and more comfortable for Socrates to just take their guilty verdict and go on living his life. In fact, even his friends were encouraging him to do so. But for what? Life is only well-lived \u2064in an\u200d acknowledgment and embrace of truth. If we accept \u2062the lie, telling ourselves it\u2019s small, little, and white, we are ourselves, buring the coffin\u200b of free speech in\u2063 the ground.<\/p>\n<p>The world can feel as if everything is \u2062stacked against us. And masks are just\u2063 one of the many tools our rulers \u2062use to subjugate\u2063 people into lies. The power-hungry \u200cauthorities have done \u2063a swell job at\u2063 pushing \u2062us into a corner, terrified at the force of their \u200ccontrol. But their immensity is simply in their shadow: their threat is much smaller than we\u200b realize when \u200bwe see the power we \u200bourselves wield.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-824a69bcfb1ef28e4c3b3c16e6a13871 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-824a69bcfb1ef28e4c3b3c16e6a13871\"><\/div>\n<p>If we\u2019re required to wear masks again, then we must remember \u200cthat our refusal is far more \u2062effective than it might\u200b seem. We\u2019re not \u200bjust\u2062 being stubborn and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/what-socrates-would-say-about-whether-to-wear-a-mask\/\" title=\"Socrates on Mask-Wearing: Wise Choice\">suffering unnecessary \u200ddiscomfort<\/a> in our social life. It is a far\u2063 greater blow to the house of cards than we realize. We do not always have power over the circumstances we find ourselves in, but we\u200b do have power over how we\u200b react, \u200cand that\u2019s where\u2064 our victory lies.<\/p>\n<p>Evil is\u200b not unprecedented. It repeats\u2062 itself, donning \u200cnew masks and disguises as time moves on. But goodness is\u200c ever dynamic\u200d and\u2062 creative, revealing itself in each individual context. If we want to fight \u2064for the good, then we must fight for the truth. So, as you head\u2064 into autumn and pull out your scarves,\u2062 throw away your\u2063 masks and consider what Socrates would do.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-394b2dd10399fb54ef369948bd65e556 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-394b2dd10399fb54ef369948bd65e556\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> \u2062 Why did Socrates\u2063 choose\u2064 to die \u200bfor the truth instead of compromising his beliefs?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Be a scary place, especially when faced with the reality of corrupt governments and the manipulation of the truth. But \u200cit is \u200ccrucial to remember the importance of \u200bstanding up for what is right\u200b and not succumbing to the pressures of conformity. Just as Socrates did, we must embrace the spirit of truth and fight against those who seek to\u2063 control us.<\/p>\n<p>Socrates, although living in a different time, faced \u200bmany \u200cof the same issues\u2063 that we are currently encountering. He\u200c saw the denial of\u200d objective reality, the \u2062threat of corrupt individuals in power, and the presence of fear and indifference. In \u200cPlato&#8217;s \u2063 <em>Apology<\/em>, Socrates is put on trial for\u200d challenging the Athenian authorities and promoting \u2064free-thinking. His message of\u200b individual spiritual excellence and pursuit\u2064 of the truth threatened those in power, leading\u200b to his unjust conviction.<\/p>\n<p>Despite having the opportunity\u200b to save his own life, Socrates refused to compromise his beliefs and chose to die \u200cfor the truth. He \u200brecognized that \u200bactions \u200bdriven by the fear of death are the most blameworthy,\u2062 and \u2064so he made the ultimate sacrifice.\u200b His conviction and refusal to live inauthentically serve as a powerful reminder of\u2062 the\u2063 importance \u200bof holding onto the \u2062truth, even in the face of adversity.<\/p>\n<p>In our current society, where civil authority has taken the \u2063place of divine authority, it is crucial that we remain steadfast in our pursuit of truth. The use of masks as a means \u200bof control is just one example \u200bof how our governments can manipulate us. We must not be afraid to question authority,\u2062 challenge the narrative, and stand up for the truth. Only by doing so can \u2062we hope\u200c to overcome the evil, propaganda, and manipulation that threaten our society.
