However, the U.S. Education Department interpreted the provision as a ban on federal funding for \u200bschool-based\u200d hunting,\u2062 shooting, and archery\u200c programs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>&#8220;This prohibition\u200b applies to all ESEA funds,&#8221; stated an Education Department spokesperson in July. &#8220;The prohibition went into effect immediately on June 25, 2022, and applies to \u2062all existing and future\u200d awards under all ESEA programs.\u2063 The Department is administering the\u2062 bipartisan law as written by Congress.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Championing Change<\/h2>\n<p>Senator John Cornyn \u200d(R-Texas), a key sponsor of the BSCA,\u200c has written a \u2064letter to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, urging a reinterpretation of the amended language.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;We ask that the Department interpret the\u200c language\u200c as Congress intended and no longer require educational entities to seek alternative funding sources for programs that align\u2064 with the goals of the ESEA\u2014supporting student achievement and well-being,&#8221; wrote\u2062 Senator Cornyn in a letter dated September 5. He \u2062was joined by a\u200d group of 17 Senate \u2062colleagues, including\u200c eight Democrats and one independent.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Another group of\u2064 18 Republican senators, who voted against the\u200b BSCA, also sent a letter (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.barrasso.senate.gov\/public\/_cache\/files\/3b5983dc-e2b4-4744-a335-ae17d88bbbfc\/08.11.23-letter-to-potus-on-hunting-and-archery-programs.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) \u200ddemanding that President Joe Biden cease the &#8220;purposeful misinterpretation of the\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrat-introduces-gun-control-bill-psych-evaluations-ammo-bans-federal-gun-registry\/\" title=\"Democrat Introduces Gun Control Bill: Psych Evaluations, Ammo Bans, Federal Gun Registry\">gun control bill<\/a>&#8221; and restore funding for hunter education and archery programs.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Hunting and\u200d archery are \u2064deeply rooted\u2062 in America&#8217;s traditions and heritage. \u200bThis unwarranted\u2063 overreach is an assault on hunters and outdoor recreation that must be rectified,&#8221; they\u2062 emphasized in their letter written in August.<\/p>\n<p>The Education Department&#8217;s interpretation \u200balso <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-faces-backlash-after-humiliating-china-meeting-incredible-incompetence-biden-is-weak\/\" title=\"Biden Faces Backlash After \u2018Humiliating\u2019 China Meeting: \u2018Incredible Incompetence,\u2019 \u2018Biden Is Weak\u2019\">faced significant backlash<\/a> from Second Amendment advocacy\u200b groups.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>Mark Jones, the national director\u200c for hunter \u200bprograms at Gun\u2063 Owners of America, argued that this interpretation serves the Biden administration&#8217;s &#8220;ultimate goal&#8221; of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gunowners.org\/biden-blocks-funds-for-hunter-safety-programs-in-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reducing participation<\/a> in\u2064 hunting \u200band shooting sports.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;For the past 58 years, hunter education programs in our schools have educated millions of children about hunter safety, ethical hunting practices, wildlife management and history, gun safety, and\u2064 archery,&#8221; wrote \u2062Mr. Jones. &#8220;Even in communities where these \u2064programs are administered by private entities and community partnerships outside of schools, they still rely on\u2063 schools to recruit participants.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He added, &#8220;A large \u2063number of \u200cour children only have access\u2063 to these programs\u200c through schools.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If H.R. 5110 is also passed\u2062 by the Senate \u2064and approved by President Joe\u200d Biden, it will amend the ESEA \u200cto clarify that the law does not prohibit funding for school\u2064 programs\u2062 that offer archery, hunting, or other shooting sports as courses or extracurricular activities.<\/p>\n<p>The original ESEA outlined six categories for which federal funds cannot be \u200bused in public schools, \u200dincluding school facility construction and repairs, transportation, programs that &#8220;promote \u2063or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/vermont-requires-middle-high-schools-to-provide-free-condoms-to-students\/\" title=\"Vermont Requires Middle\/High Schools to Provide Free Condoms to Students\">encourage sexual activity<\/a>,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/multi-faith-coalition-of-immigrant-parents-protest-maryland-public-schools-woke-sex-ed\/\" title=\"Immigrant parents unite to protest Maryland schools' woke sex ed.\">age-inappropriate sex education<\/a>, and the distribution of contraceptives or &#8220;legally obscene materials.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> How do hunting and gun safety courses in schools promote responsible firearm use and education?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Ll&#8221; \u2064and ensure the continuation of hunting\u200b and gun safety courses in schools.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>A \u2062Bipartisan Effort<\/h2>\n<p>The House \u200bresolution, H.R. 5110, is a direct response to these\u200c calls for action.
