(Photo\u200c by Thomas Kronsteiner\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Oversight Committee Launches Probe into Energy Secretary&#8217;s Controversial Electric Vehicle Road Trip<\/h2>\n<p>OAN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/brooke-mallory\">Brooke\u200d Mallory<\/a><br \/>6:03 PM \u2013\u2062 Wednesday, September 27, 2023<\/p>\n<p>The\u200c House Oversight Committee is commencing a\u200c probe into Energy\u200d Secretary Jennifer Granholm\u2019s summer road \u200ctrip in an electric vehicle (EV),\u2064 which gained attention \u200bafter charging issues \u200dled \u2064to a family calling the police on staff who were \u200cblocking \u200ca \u200bcharging outlet for\u200d the \u200dofficial.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>In order to\u2063 &#8220;understand the purposes, costs,\u2064 and consequences&#8221; of Granholm\u2019s road trip, Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and Energy Policy Subcommittee Chairman Pat\u200c Fallon\u200b (R-TX)\u200d asked the agency on Tuesday for\u2064 documents pertaining \u2063to her travels from North\u2064 Carolina \u2064to Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p>Their letter focuses \u2062the investigation on\u2064 an NPR \u200bpiece that detailed the drive\u2019s difficulties.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-oversight-begins-probe-into-granholms-electric-vehicle-road-trip-fiasco\/\" title=\"House Oversight investigates Granholm's EV road trip debacle.\">taxpayer-funded \u2063publicity stunt illustrates<\/a> yet again\u2063 how\u200d out of touch the Biden \u200bAdministration is with the consequences of policies it has \u200cunleashed on\u200d everyday \u200dAmericans,&#8221; the letter reads.\u00a0&#8220;Committee Republicans remain committed to preserving \u200cfreedoms like vehicle consumer choice \u2063in the face of an unproven, burdensome, \u200band expensive Biden\u200c Administration push to \u2062force all\u2063 Americans to buy EVs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After receiving a request for\u200d comment from the Washington Examiner, the Department\u200b of Energy declined to indicate if it would\u2063 cooperate with Oversight\u2019s investigation.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;For over a decade, while our global competitors geared up for\u200d the clean energy transition, \u2063America lagged behind. Now, with President Biden\u2019s historic Investing\u2063 in \u2064America agenda we have over $7 billion to build out\u200b convenient and reliable EV charging infrastructure, a portion of which is already awarded to every state, D.C. \u200dand Puerto\u200b Rico,&#8221; the spokesperson said. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The\u2062 private sector\u2063 is following \u2062suit with equally \u2062ambitious investments \u2014 growing our\u2064 workforce and keeping money in the pockets of hardworking Americans.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The \u2064purpose of Granholm\u2019s \u200btrip was to highlight the billions that the\u200c Biden administration has \u200dinvested in EVs and related infrastructure, but as soon as Granholm\u2019s own team saw the\u200c difficulties of operating electric vehicles,\u2062 the message was\u2063 quickly forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>Her crew tried \u2064parking a non-electric vehicle \u200cright beside an EV charger to reserve\u2062 the spot for the energy secretary after realizing that there were not enough charging stations to\u200d go around. \u2063They were reportedly attempting to &#8220;fast-charge\u2063 a caravan of EVs&#8221; in Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>The result \u200cwas that a \u2064traveling family with a very young \u200dchild \u2063was \u2063prevented from\u200b using the \u200dcharger. However, the family noticed her staff\u2019s blockage tactics and quickly called the police \u200dto report them for\u2062 &#8220;hogging the charging station.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Granholm\u2019s journey highlighted the challenges that many EV owners encounter\u200d when traveling lengthy distances, including \u200dthe inconvenience of having \u2064to wait while the\u2064 vehicle charges, the difficulty \u2064of \u200cfiguring out where to find a charger in\u200b advance of the batteries running \u200bout, and the difficulty of finding chargers that are compatible with\u2062 the car.<\/p>\n<p>Along with drawing attention to the higher prices of EVs than standard \u200dinternal combustion \u2064engines, these are \u2062just a few obstacles that form the basis of the GOP\u2019s objections against electric \u2064vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats sought \u200bto\u200c allay these worries by investing billions of dollars and through their party-line climate plan and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-see-7-10-day-window-for-infrastructure-deal\/\" title=\"Republicans See 7-10 Day Window for Infrastructure Deal\">bipartisan infrastructure bill<\/a>, Democrats sought to allay these worries\u200c by investing billions of dollars.<\/p>\n<p>However, House Republicans are not the only ones calling attention to the trip\u2019s \u2062failures. The Senate GOP leadership \u200cmade light of the difficulties the energy secretary encountered when operating her electric\u200b vehicle during a weekly press conference earlier this month.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;You can\u2019t make this stuff up\u2026 If the Biden administration can\u2019t make \u200cit from Charlotte to Memphis without an incident,\u200c then how do we expect that all of our\u200d nontactical military fleet is going to get transitioned by the year 2030\u2064 without having big\u2062 issues?&#8221; said Republican Policy Committee Chairwoman Joni Ernst (R-IA).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Oversight \u200bletter also argues that Granholm\u2019s trip \u200bcould not have been completed &#8220;without the support of the fossil\u2062 fuel industry,\u200b which you and the Biden Administration\u200b have been \u2063intent \u2062to vilify and destroy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle\u2064 that was used to block off\u200c the charging station had a conventional internal combustion\u2063 engine.<\/p>\n<p>Before October \u206210<sup>th<\/sup>, Oversight is requesting that \u2063Granholm deliver a\u200c number of documents to the \u2063committee on the trip, including ones that outline the\u200c cost to \u200btaxpayers\u2063 and a list of all the\u200d vehicles used.
