However,\u200b in addition to the pure entertainment value,\u200b there are often political,\u2063 social, and cultural messages involved in drag performances which strengthen the Plaintiff&#8217;s position.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Hittner, who was \u200bappointed by Ronald Reagan, emphasized that the \u200blaw &#8220;impermissibly\u2064 infringes \u2063on the \u200dFirst Amendment and chills \u2063free speech.&#8221; He \u2062also warned\u200d that if the law\u2063 were to take\u200b effect, \u200dactivities such\u2062 as cheerleading, dancing, or live theater could \u2062potentially be deemed criminal.<\/p>\n<p>According to the law, &#8220;A \u200bperson who controls the premises of a commercial enterprise may not allow\u200c a sexually oriented performance to be presented on the premises in the presence of\u200b an individual younger\u200b than \u200d18 years of \u200dage.&#8221; Violators could have\u2063 faced fines of up to $10,000.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;I \u200bam relieved \u200band \u200cgrateful for the court&#8217;s \u200druling,&#8221; \u2064said Brigitte Bandit, a drag performer who sued to \u200bprevent the law from being enforced. &#8220;My livelihood and community \u2064have already\u200b endured enough hatred and harm from \u200dour elected officials.
