The Commanders\u2019 alleged intent to defame and slander them is actionable. We are thankful for the whistleblowers that have come forward and we anticipate many more will.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NAGA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nagaeducation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">describes<\/a> itself as a \u201cnon-profit organization advocating for increased education about Native Americans, especially in public educational institutions, and greater recognition of Native American Heritage through the high profile venues of sports and other public platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The media release explains how NAGA previously sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/native-american-group-tells-commanders-change-team-name-back-redskins-threatens-boycott\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">demand letter<\/a> to the Commanders alongside a viral online petition requesting an \u201copen dialogue\u201d with the team and providing evidence that Native Americans were not offended by the \u201cRedskins\u201d name.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of responding to the letter, NAGA claims the Commanders launched an \u201calleged defamation campaign against NAGA and included a statement of support by the Soros-funded National Congress of Indian Americans (NCAI) encouraging the cancel culture of historic name.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">NATIVE AMERICAN GUARDIAN\u2019S ASSOCIATION (NAGA) FILES DEFAMATION LAWSUIT AGAINST WASHINGTON COMMANDERS &#038; KEY LEADERSHIP IN FEDERAL COURT; LEAKED TEXT MESSAGES AND WHISTLEBLOWERS ALLEGE COMMANDERS\u2019 WILLFUL ACTIONS CALLING NAGA (A FEDERALLY REGISTERED 501c3) A \u201cFAKE\u201d GROUP\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Native American Guardians Association (@GuardiansNative) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GuardiansNative\/status\/1706343507118653486?\">September 25, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile, the organization\u2019s president Eunice Davidson said that they were \u201cfighting against cancel culture for ALL AMERICANS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNative Americans have been the target the longest \u2014 we will fight fiercely to preserve our historic place in America \u2014 just like other figures and groups; however, we will not burn down our Nation or encourage any violence in our efforts, unlike others,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmerica is simply not for sale to this epidemic of cancel culture and DEI initiatives \u2014 NAGA will continue to fight to defend Her,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\u201cCommanders is a fitting name for oppressors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Native American Guardians Association is suing the Commanders in attempt to get them to restore their former team name.<\/p>\n<p>By changing their name from \u201cRedskins\u201d, the Commanders \u201cdishonored\u201d many years of Native American heritage. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kd1H66jjDs\">pic.twitter.com\/kd1H66jjDs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Citizen Free Press (@CitizenFreePres) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CitizenFreePres\/status\/1706461430021534043?\">September 26, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A Commanders representative told NBC that the company will \u201caddress the matter in court\u201d but maintained that the lawsuit is \u201cwithout merit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Commanders <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/washington-redskins-kneel-corporate-pressure-will-eliminate-native-american-imagery-report\/?ff_source=Twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> their name change back in 2020, in the wake of the nationwide Black Lives Matter riots sparked by the death of George Floyd, saying the decision had been taken as a result of \u201crecent events around our country and feedback from our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, a survey taken in 2016 by The Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/native-americans-feel-washington-redskins-name-might-surprised\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">found<\/a> that nine out of 10 Native American\u2019s don\u2019t find the \u201cRedskins\u201d name offensive.<\/p>\n<div class=\"author_subscription_pitch\">.author_subscription_pitch p{margin:5px;}<\/p>\n<p><em><b>An Urgent Note from Our Staff:<\/b><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Western Journal has been labeled \u201cdangerous\u201d simply because we have a Biblical worldview and speak truth about what is happening in America.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We refuse to let big tech and woke advertisers dictate the content we share with our community.
