Around 9.1 percent of defensive gun uses occurred \u200cin public, and 4.8 \u200bpercent happened at work.<\/p>\n<p>The study also revealed \u200bthat in \u2062the majority of defensive gun uses, 81.9\u2064 percent, no shots were fired.<\/p>\n<p>Ayoob \u200dargued that gun \u2063control advocates deliberately ignore or downplay the narrative of the &#8220;good guy with a gun&#8221; by only considering defense situations where shots are fired. The \u200bwomen bravely tried to stop him but became his second\u2062 and third victims. By the time the shooter took his own life less than five minutes \u200dlater, he had fired 154 rounds and claimed\u2063 the\u2063 lives of 26 people.<\/p>\n<p>A similar \u2063incident occurred on \u200cDec. 9, 2007, at New\u200b Life Church in\u200b Colorado Springs. A gunman had already killed two people the night before and intended to cause more harm. After shooting \u200dfour individuals in the parking lot, he entered the church foyer and wounded another \u2064person.\u2063 However, volunteer security guard \u200cJeanne Assam confronted him \u2062with her hands raised and a 9 mm \u2063handgun. Assam successfully stopped the shooter, preventing further casualties.<\/p>\n<h2>Killer Stopped by Handgun<\/h2>\n<p>Ayoob \u200clamented the fact that \u2062Sandy \u2062Hook has become synonymous with the gun control debate, while the heroic actions at\u2062 New Life Church have been largely forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>He argued that the discussion on\u2063 gun control primarily revolves around crime, resulting in a \u200bsignificant \u2062undercounting of defensive gun uses. Cases where no shots are fired\u200b or incidents that go unreported by the intended victims are often disregarded.<\/p>\n<p>Ayoob also expanded the definition\u2063 of\u2063 defensive gun \u200duse to include \u200dinstances \u2064where firearms are used to \u200bprotect against predators or threats to livestock.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you&#8217;ve ever shot a venomous snake to protect yourself or your \u2064children, you&#8217;ve engaged \u2064in defensive gun\u200b use,&#8221; he stated.<\/p>\n<p>He \u200durged Second\u200b Amendment advocates to highlight the \u2063lives saved\u2062 by firearms. Ayoob believes that\u2063 the \u2063media also plays a crucial role in this regard.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The media tends to \u200dhighlight tragedies involving firearms, painting \u2062them as examples \u200bof gun violence. While it is \u2062important to address these issues, it is equally important to share stories of\u2064 individuals who save lives and prevent crimes with their lawful use of firearms,&#8221; Ayoob expressed.<\/p>\n<p>Changing the narrative on gun ownership \u2062requires a multifaceted approach that combines rational arguments with emotional narratives.
