A body mass index (BMI) above 30 is considered obese, while overweight people have a BMI of 25 to 29.9. In the U.S., about 70% of Americans are considered overweight, with 42.4% classified as obese.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIn addition, the CDC found that nearly eight in 10 people hospitalized for the virus were either obese or overweight,\u201d the report added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the World Obesity Federation, \u201conly old age rates as a higher risk factor\u201d for COVID-19 death, and that \u201cIncreased body weight is the second greatest predictor of hospitalization and a high risk of death\u201d for those who catch the virus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This raises the obvious point that being overweight \u2014 and especially being obese \u2014 is objectively bad for your health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>For a long time in our modern society, this was a widely accepted medical reality. However, in recent times, there has been an intentional push from the politically correct Left to not only accept obesity as normal, but to celebrate it as healthy<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>For example, in August of 2018 <em>Cosmopolitan U.K.<\/em> selected body positivity activist and model Tess Holliday for the magazine\u2019s cover, who is medically obese.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Tess Holliday Is Rocking A Swimsuit On The Cover Of Cosmo UK <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/twzkS8aWXJ\">https:\/\/t.co\/twzkS8aWXJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 BuzzFeed (@BuzzFeed) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BuzzFeed\/status\/1034957873703473152?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 30, 2018<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>In January 2021, <em>Cosmopolitan U.K.<\/em> published a piece<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cosmopolitan.com\/uk\/body\/a34915032\/women-bodies-wellness-healthy-different-shape-size\/\"><span>titled<\/span><\/a> <span>\u201c11 women who prove wellness isn\u2019t \u2018one size fits all,\u2019\u201d with several obese women featured on the cover under the headline \u201cThis Is Healthy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">the party of science strikes again <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/iD1Zmfp2SW\">pic.twitter.com\/iD1Zmfp2SW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jessica O\u2019Donnell (@heckyessica) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/heckyessica\/status\/1345901591845548033?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 4, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>However, given the clear susceptibility of those who are overweight or obese to COVID-19 \u2014 among other legitimate health risks \u2014 it\u2019s obvious that obesity is<\/span> <em><span>not<\/span><\/em> <span>healthy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The point is not that those who are overweight or obese who have died or become seriously ill from COVID-19 should be criticized or viewed as culpable for their suffering. Such an argument is both callous and immoral.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Similarly, the point is not to dismiss the argument of many in the world of \u201cbody positivity\u201d that the idea of a \u201cperfect body\u201d has been warped beyond reality by multiple industries, causing a wide range of body-related concerns and conditions while also fueling the societal rejection of those who fail to \u201cconform.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>However, the important point we must acknowledge is that the elements of the \u201cbody positivity\u201d movement which<\/span> <em><span>celebrate<\/span><\/em> <span>obesity as a moral and medical good are doing those who follow their lead a great and \u2014 frankly \u2014 potentially deadly disservice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It\u2019s one thing to be comfortable with your body and understand that we all have individual needs when it comes to health.
