This disturbing trend is reminiscent of the civil \u200brights\u2063 era, where all-white juries \u200dwould acquit white defendants who committed\u200c acts\u2062 of violence against black individuals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Let&#8217;s \u200dexamine a recent\u200c and egregious example\u2064 of this phenomenon. The black men \u200binitially fled, but \u200bthen turned back and\u200c charged at Liming&#8217;s \u200bcar. Liming fired water pellets \u200cat them in self-defense,\u2062 but\u2062 they ultimately stomped him to death.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;A white kid gets killed and the damn\u200c whole world stops\u2026\u200b F\u2014- that white motherf\u2014\u2014-,&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Despite the \u200coverwhelming evidence of\u2064 murder,\u2063 the prosecutors downgraded the \u200dcharges to involuntary manslaughter and assault. This lenient treatment sent a clear message to the jury that this was merely an accident or\u200c a\u2063 bar fight, rather than a deliberate act of murder.\u2062 Unsurprisingly, the \u2063jury acquitted the \u200ddefendants of involuntary manslaughter and convicted \u2062them only of assault. \u200bThey will likely serve minimal\u200b sentences and be back on the streets within \u200da few years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This \u200cis not an isolated incident. \u2063Similar cases across the\u2064 country demonstrate a pattern\u2064 of \u2063race-based jury \u2064nullification.
