When questioned about his\u2062 souvenirs from space, he simply replied, &#8220;A good mood.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Russian mission\u200c control at Star City, located \u200coutside Moscow, \u2063confirmed that the crew members were in good \u2062health after spending slightly over a year aboard the ISS. They\u200b touched down precisely at 1117 GMT.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Rubio, \u2063embarking on his inaugural space voyage, emerged from the capsule,\u2063 which was dimly lit due to the intense reentry temperatures. He flashed a thumbs up and waved as Russian and U.S. space officials monitored his\u200c blood\u200b pressure and heart rate, ensuring his well-being as they covered him with a warm\u2062 blanket.<\/p>\n<p>The trio \u200bfaced a six-month delay in their return due to a leak in their original spacecraft, necessitating the dispatch of a replacement. Additionally, Mr.\u2062 Rubio became the first \u2064American to \u2062spend an\u200b entire year in space.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Although Mr. \u200bRubio broke the American \u2064record, he and his Russian\u200d colleagues still have a long way to go to reach \u2064the world record held by Russia&#8217;s Valeri Polyakov, who spent an astonishing 437 consecutive days and 18 hours during a Mir space station mission from January 1994\u200b to March 1995. \u200bSadly, Polyakov passed away last September\u2064 at the age of 80.<\/p>\n<p>Roscosmos revealed\u2062 that Prokopyev has accumulated a total of over 567 days in space, including his previous missions.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Rubio, born to Salvadoran parents in Los Angeles but raised in \u200dMiami, is \u200ca board-certified \u200cfamily physician and flight surgeon. He is\u2064 also \u200ba \u2064former U.S. Army special forces officer and a decorated Blackhawk helicopter pilot, having flown combat missions in Bosnia, Afghanistan, and Iraq.<\/p>\n<p>During a press conference from orbit, eight days prior to his return to Earth, \u200bMr. Rubio admitted that he might have declined his first spaceflight \u200bhad he known in\u2063 advance\u200c that it would last at least \u2064a year. \u2063He cited family responsibilities as a primary concern. However, he ultimately felt honored and embraced the mission extension.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Rubio anticipates that it will \u200dtake several months to fully readjust his balance and regain his strength after an extended \u200dperiod in microgravity.
