The report\u200c also did not provide \u200bany information regarding\u2062 his health status.<\/p>\n<p>Pvt. King was a cavalry scout with the 1st Armored Division who had served nearly two months\u200d in a South Korean prison for assault. King had expressed willingness &#8220;to seek\u200b refugee \u2064in the DPRK or \u200da third country.&#8221;<\/div>\n<p>Cases of Americans or South Koreans defecting to North \u2062Korea are rare. However, more than 30,000 North Koreans have fled to South \u2063Korea to avoid political \u200boppression and\u2062 economic difficulties since\u200b the end of the 1950\u20131953 Korean War.<\/p>\n<p>Panmunjom, located inside the 154-mile-long DMZ, has been jointly overseen by the U.N.
