Participants took triptorelin, a prostate\u2064 cancer medicine used \u200cto inhibit the synthesis of estrogen in women and testosterone in men.<\/p>\n<p>According to researchers at the University of Essex, the mental health of between 20 and 34 percent of participants significantly deteriorated over \u2062the course of treatment. Just between 9 and 20 percent\u2063 reported a reliable improvement. Between 56 and 68 percent witnessed no change in distress.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, less than a fifth \u200cof those prescribed puberty-blocking drugs, <em>if \u200bthat,<\/em> experienced emotional improvement following treatment.\u200d The findings contradict broad claims\u200d that such medical interventions are necessary to save gender-confused children from the perils of suicidal ideation. While the\u2064 updated\u2062 analysis from the University\u2063 of Essex\u200d has yet to be peer-reviewed, another long-term study from Sweden found those who underwent transgender surgery\u200b were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3043071\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">19 times<\/a> \u200cmore likely to die \u2063by suicide than\u200d the\u2064 general public.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The national suicide hotline is 1-800-273-8255. More\u200b resources \u2062are <a href=\"https:\/\/suicidepreventionlifeline.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC6830528\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">study<\/a> published in 2019 found nearly 60 percent\u200d of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-ag-wages-legal-war-to-hide-kids-transgender-pursuits-from-parents\/\" title=\"CA AG Fights to Conceal Children's Transgender Activities from Parents\">trans-identified patients<\/a> in a more than 10,000-patient survey were diagnosed \u200bwith at least one psychiatric disorder to begin with.<\/p>\n<p>In June, the U.K. NHS <a href=\"https:\/\/mermaidsuk.org.uk\/news\/new-nhs-england-guidelines-restricting-future-access-to-puberty-blockers-our-analysis\/#:~:text=past%20six%20months.-,Access%20to%20Puberty%20Blockers,part%20of%20a%20research%20protocol.%5C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">updated<\/a> guidelines to prohibit \u200bprescriptions for puberty blockers outside\u200d of clinical research. The change \u200bin protocol follows other <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/01\/30\/even-progressive-europe-wont-go-as-far-as-america-in-child-transgender-treatments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">European nations<\/a> \u2062similarly pulling back on dangerous premature \u200dmedical interventions on minors who wish\u2063 to manipulate their gender.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the \u2064past few years, European health authorities conducted systematic reviews of\u200d evidence for the benefits and risks of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones,\u201d City Journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/article\/yes-europe-is-restricting-gender-affirming-care#:~:text=In%20the%20past%20few%20years,to%20restrict%20access%20to%20hormones.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> in February. \u201cThe findings from these reviews \u2014 that the certainty of benefits is very low \u2014 guided the hand of policymakers there to restrict access to hormones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/09\/23\/gavin-newsom-vetoes-bill-to-make-parents-affirm-trans-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vetoed<\/a> radical legislation <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/09\/11\/california-lawmakers-vote-to-remove-kids-from-any-parents-who-dont-support-severing-their-genitals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mandating<\/a> that parents \u201caffirm\u201d a child\u2019s newfound so<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-approves-gender-equality-act-in-224-206-vote\/\" title=\"House approves gender \u2018Equality Act\u2019 in 224-206 vote\">-called \u201cgender identity<\/a>.\u201d Parents with kids in California\u2019s Chino Valley Unified School District, however,\u200d are still <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/09\/12\/school-district-gears-up-to-fight-california-ag-trying-to-make-them-secretly-trans-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fighting<\/a> state Democrats on the right to watch \u2064over their own children.<\/p>\n<p>In August, California\u2019s far-left Attorney General Rob Bonta\u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/30\/california-ag-wages-legal-war-to-hide-kids-transgender-pursuits-from-parents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">launched<\/a> a legal\u2063 crusade to terminate the district\u2019s new policy requiring schools to notify parents whenever a child tries\u200c to change pronouns or display other symptoms of gender dysphoria.<\/p>\n<p><strong>[RELATED:[RELATED:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/09\/12\/school-district-gears-up-to-fight-california-ag-trying-to-make-them-secretly-trans-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">School District Gears Up To Fight California AG Trying \u2064To Make Them\u200c Secretly Trans \u200cKids<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>Tristan Justice\u200b is the western \u200bcorrespondent for The Federalist and\u2063 the author of Social \u200dJustice Redux, a conservative newsletter on \u200dculture, health, and wellness.
