In fact, quite the opposite is\u200b happening \u2014 at least if a report about their \u200dlodging conditions is any\u2062 indication.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2023\/09\/22\/migrants-three-star-hotels-home-office\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.K. Telegraph<\/a> \u2064 reported that the \u200ccountry\u2019s Home Office \u2014 which is somewhat\u200c analogous to\u2064 America\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dhs-announces-homeland-intelligence-experts-group-conservatives-immediately-notice-huge-problem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of \u200dHomeland Security<\/a>,\u2063 albeit with \u200ba wider purview \u2014 \u200cwas telling contractors housing so-called \u201csmall-boat migrants\u201d that they needed to be housed \u201cat\u200d least a\u200d minimum of three stars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This comes as the costs of housing the migrants approaches \u200cthe equivalent\u2062 of roughly $10\u2064 million \u200dU.S. per day.<\/p>\n<h3>Concerns and Contradictions<\/h3>\n<p>Home Secretary Suella Braverman told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/sudden-unexplained-deaths-children-brought-floor-uk-parliament-debate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Parliament<\/a> she was \u201cvery concerned about hotels\u201d and insisted their use was \u201cunacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is \u2064totally unacceptable that too many towns and cities around the country now house\u2064 the 45,000\u2063 asylum seekers \u200dwho are in hotels,\u201d Braverman said,\u200b adding \u201cit is not \u2062right that the British taxpayer is forking out the cost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Braverman\u2019s Home Office has apparently been just doing what\u2064 it does, not doing \u2062what she says.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200cTelegraph reviewed the most recent contract that was issued by the Home Office and found this clause under\u200d the \u201cmandatory requirements\u201d for hotels that\u2062 were booked for migrants: \u201cThe location \u200bof the accommodation will be\u2063 carried out at\u2064 locations close to amenities and transport networks. Contracted venues should be at least \u2063a \u200cminimum of three stars.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to\u200c the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-53699511\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC<\/a>, so-called \u201csmall boat arrivals\u201d were \u2064responsible for about 45 percent of asylum appliers in the U.K. in 2022, with 45,755 having made the dangerous journey across\u200c the English Channel that \u2063year.<\/p>\n<p>Numbers in 2019 and 2020\u2064 were well below \u206310,000, but that spiked in\u2062 2021. As of Aug. 29, 20,101 individuals have crossed the\u200b channel, including 3,824 in \u200dJune \u2014 a record number for that month.<\/p>\n<p>And while this is a U.K. problem, the \u200droots of one of the largest drivers of illegal \u2063immigration by boat to the country\u2062 could be said to be a failure of President Joe Biden\u2019s administration, as well \u2014 namely, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-admin-sent-2-35-billion-taliban-since-disastrous-afghanistan-withdraw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the numbers,\u2062 Afghanis represent the largest number \u2064of asylum seekers in the first half of 2023, with 3,326. Another roughly 3,200 applications came from Iran, \u200dwith India, Bangladesh and Pakistan trailing them.<\/p>\n<p>However, \u2063in 2022, Albanians made up the largest group of asylum-seekers crossing \u200bthe English Channel, with 12,301 from the European nation making the dangerous journey \u2014 roughly 28 percent, according to \u200cthe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/explainers-63473022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, how often are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/invasion-usa-biden-sets-new-border-record-illegal-aliens-encountered-august-equivalent-army\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">illegal arrivals<\/a> put up in three-star hotels?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA Home Office spokesman said that the vast majority of \u2064hotels\u2064 used to house asylum seekers did not have a minimum star\u200b requirement and that the contract with the three star requirement was a \u2018contingency contract used minimally,&#8217;\u201d the Telegraph\u200c reported. \u201cHe added that the use of \u2062hotels was a temporary \u200bsolution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lbc.co.uk\/news\/migrants-minimum-three-star-hotel-stay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LBC Radio<\/a>, an independent radio broadcaster in\u200b the U.K., \u2064a\u2063 new report pegs the government\u2019s spending on illegal \u2062immigrant hotel rooms at \u2064\u00a33 billion a year, or roughly $3.67 billion U.S.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to stop the boats to relieve the unsustainable pressure on our asylum system and accommodation services, \u200bwhich is costing over \u00a33 billion\u2064 a \u200dyear,\u201d the report reads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Illegal Migration Act will ensure anyone arriving illegally can be \u200ddetained and swiftly removed, \u200cso that \u2063people know they cannot skip the \u2064queue \u2064by coming here illegally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis goes further than ever before to\u2063 do what is necessary to fix the issue, but legislative changes take time and there \u2062is no single silver bullet. In the meantime, we must take action to address the unacceptable\u2062 costs of housing migrants in hotels which is costing the\u200c taxpayer around \u00a38 million a day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former Conservative Party minister Sir John Hayes \u200btold the Telegraph that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/italian-pm-meloni-travels-us-give-un-dire-warning-illegal-immigration-doubles-italy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">small-boat \u200cmigrants<\/a> ought to \u201cexpect a much more basic level of\u200d provision\u201d than a minimum three-star hotel: \u201cMy constituents wouldn\u2019t expect any illegal immigrant to be housed in a place they couldn\u2019t afford to stay \u200bin themselves,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2064 need to provide safe and clean \u200caccommodation \u2064but it\u200c should be basic \u2014 three-star is well above the level \u2063taxpayers would expect to be \u2063funding. In truth, we\u2019ve got to \u200dmove these people out of hotels altogether.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yes, but the idea that there is the will to do this sort of thing in the U.K. is another thing entirely. Keep in mind that the Conservative Party, or Tories, are in power.<\/p>\n<p>Never mind that they haven\u2019t even bothered trying to conserve a single thing about the\u2064 U.K., they\u2019re basically \u2064a slightly paler version\u2064 of the Labour Party, albeit one that grumbles\u200b a little\u200d bit more as it gives taxpayers\u2019 money away to the same culprits: an inefficient public health care system, a whole host of other social programs and, of course, subsidizing illegal immigrants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s pretty obvious that the Home Office has completely failed to get\u2064 a grip on\u200d the use of\u200d the hotels,\u201d one anonymous senior Tory told the Telegraph \u201cThe Home Secretary\u2019s rhetoric does \u2063not match the reality \u2013 she \u200csays she\u2019s got a grip on this but the situation is out of control.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At least she can \u200dbe\u200b confident the immigrants will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/go-somewhere-else-ny-dem-gov-kathy-hochul-cries-uncle-illegals-overwhelm-sanctuary-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">staying in style<\/a>, however.<\/p>\n<div class=\"author_subscription_pitch\">\n<h3>A Note \u200bfrom Our Staff:<\/h3>\n<p><em><b>Did you know that 90% of advertisers will have nothing to do with The Western Journal?
