Little remains recognizable beyond the <strong>jars \u2062of sea glass<\/strong> \u200b that stood outside the front door.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday,\u200d officials are \u2062expected to \u200d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/alberta-could-lift-vaccine-passport-in-days-denies-negotiating-with-trucker-blockade\/\" title=\"Alberta Could Lift Vaccine Passport in 'Days', Denies Negotiating With Trucker Blockade\">begin lifting restrictions<\/a> on entry \u200bto the area, and Claydon hopes to\u2063 collect those jars and any \u2063other mementos she might\u200d find.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;I want the freedom to just be there\u2062 and absorb what happened,&#8221; \u200bClaydon said. &#8220;Whatever I might find, even \u200cif it&#8217;s just those jars of sea glass, I&#8217;m looking forward to\u200b taking it. &#8230; It&#8217;s a\u2064 piece of home.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Authorities will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/canada-announces-date-when-border-will-open-to-vaccinated-americans\/\" title=\"Canada Announces Date When Border Will Open To Vaccinated Americans\">begin allowing<\/a> the first residents and property \u200downers to\u2064 return to their properties in the\u2062 burn zone, many for \u2062the first time since it was demolished nearly seven weeks \u200bago, on Aug. 8, by the deadliest U.S. wildfire in more than a century.<\/p>\n<p>The prospect \u2064of returning has stirred\u200c strong emotions in residents who fled\u200c in vehicles or on foot as the wind-whipped \u200dflames raced across Lahaina, the historic capital of\u200c the former Hawaiian kingdom, and overcame people stuck in traffic trying to escape.<\/p>\n<p>Some survivors jumped over a sea wall and sheltered in\u2063 the \u2063waves as hot black\u2063 smoke blotted out \u200bthe sun. A few \u2064of the walls are still standing, and some green lawn remains, she said.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities have divided the burned\u2064 area into 17 zones and dozens of sub-zones. Residents or property\u200b owners of the \u200dfirst to be cleared for reentry \u2014 known \u200das\u2064 Zone 1C, along \u2063Kaniau\u2063 Road in the north\u2063 part \u2062of Lahaina \u2014 will\u200d be allowed to return on supervised visits Monday and Tuesday between 8 \u2063a.m. and \u200b4 p.m. Those eligible could pick up passes from\u2062 Friday to Sunday\u200d in advance.<\/p>\n<p>Darryl \u200dOliveira, interim administrator of the Maui Emergency Management Agency, \u2063said \u2063officials also want to ensure that they have the space and privacy to reflect or grieve as they see fit.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;They anticipate some people will\u200d only want to go for a very short \u2062period of time, a few minutes \u2063to say\u2064 goodbye in a way \u200cto their property,&#8221; Gov. Josh Green (D-HI) said\u200d last \u2064week. &#8220;Others may want to stay several\u200c hours. They&#8217;re going to be very\u200b accommodating.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Those returning will be provided water, shade, washing stations, portable toilets, \u200dmedical and mental healthcare, and\u2063 transportation assistance if \u200bneeded. Nonprofit groups are also offering\u200d personal protective \u200cequipment, \u2064including masks\u2064 and coveralls.
