This was a significant win for our democracy, as\u2063 it allowed voters to have\u200d a \u200dsay in this contentious issue.<\/p>\n<p>While abortion is not solely a state&#8217;s rights matter, framing it\u2064 as such helped ease concerns about the political implications of overturning Roe. The marches, protests, \u2064and \u2062activism had succeeded!<\/p>\n<p>But&#8230; did \u2063they\u200c really? Let&#8217;s face it, the main\u200d reason Roe is no longer \u200din effect\u200c is because \u2062of Donald Trump.\u2064 It was his Supreme Court appointments that made this victory possible.<\/p>\n<p>With newfound freedom, some red states wasted no \u2064time \u200bin implementing abortion regulations. Texas passed the &#8220;heartbeat bill,&#8221; prohibiting abortions after \u2063six weeks. Florida&#8217;s Governor Ron DeSantis signed a similar bill in\u2062 April.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, some red-state voters even overturned\u2062 these \u2063new restrictions. It turns\u2063 out that not all conservatives were ready to go to extremes. (News \u2064flash: there\u2063 are no purely\u200c red states anymore, only shades of pink).<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e2bf5e955a0751fe740233d4eb3e3128 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-e2bf5e955a0751fe740233d4eb3e3128\"><\/div>\n<p>So, it was surprising to see people from both sides criticizing Trump when he expressed\u200c his opposition to six-week abortion bans in an interview on NBC&#8217;s &#8220;Meet the\u200b Press&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8216;I would\u2063 sit down with both sides and I&#8217;d negotiate something and we&#8217;ll \u200bend up with peace on that issue for the first time\u2062 in\u200d 52 years,&#8217; Trump said in a recent interview on NBC, \u200damid polling and down-ticket elections showing the GOP\u2063 is losing \u2064ground\u200c because of backlash\u200d against \u200cthe 2022 Dobbs ruling undoing Roe. The\u2063 six-week abortion \u2064ban 2024 primary rival Florida\u2062 Gov. Ron DeSantis signed is &#8216;a terrible \u2064thing and a terrible mistake,&#8217; Trump added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Is Trump endorsing six-week abortions? Probably not. He has\u200b been vocal about\u2063 his disdain for the abortion industry. However, he is highlighting\u2063 the political reality of 2023: six-week\u200b abortion bans \u2064may not be politically viable in most places.<\/p>\n<p>As a pro-life Catholic,\u2062 it may seem contradictory\u200d for me to say this, but it&#8217;s the truth. Wishing things were different won&#8217;t change \u2062anyone&#8217;s \u2064mind. Despite our efforts over the \u200bpast 60 years, the abortion rate has continued to rise, even after\u2062 Roe\u2064 was overturned.<\/p>\n<p>We find ourselves in a difficult situation. To make progress on \u2064abortion, we need\u200b to elect pro-life candidates.\u200c However, if\u2062 they are seen as &#8220;too extreme&#8221; on the \u200bissue, they \u200dwon&#8217;t get elected. It&#8217;s a conundrum!<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1fc39aa6d8ff05bfc4bd5baaab81be72 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1fc39aa6d8ff05bfc4bd5baaab81be72\"><\/div>\n<p>In the interview, Trump also opposed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/stefanik-proposes-15-week-federal-ban-on-abortion\/\" title=\"Stefanik suggests 15-week abortion ban.\">15-week federal ban<\/a>, aligning himself with\u2062 other\u2062 GOP \u200bcandidates, except for lower-tier contenders like Pence and Scott,\u200b who criticized him for his stance.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s confusing. We pro-life advocates achieved our goal, but now we&#8217;re questioning if it&#8217;s enough. Are we\u200c only going to support candidates who want to outlaw all abortions, everywhere, at any time? Is the Abortion Zero Candidate the only option?<\/p>\n<p>Good luck winning the White House with\u2064 that platform, Mike Pence.<\/p>\n<p>The truth is, Trump was bluntly acknowledging that we \u200dlive in a \u200dcenter-left country when it comes to abortion. Numerous surveys show that most people want restrictions on abortion, \u2062but \u2064only a small minority support a complete ban after six weeks.<\/p>\n<p>For example, 63% of women believe abortion\u2064 should be \u2062legal in most or all cases. This sentiment is shared across all age groups, with 74%\u200d of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/donald-trump-isnt-the-guy-to-argue-with-on-pro-life-limits-the-voters-are\/\" title=\"Voters, not Donald Trump, decide on pro-life limits.\">18-29 \u2062year olds supporting legal abortion<\/a>. Even 96% of college graduates believe it should be legal in \u200bmost or all cases. Only 60% \u2064of self-identified Republicans want abortion restricted.<\/p>\n<p>As someone who desires a world where abortion is a thing of the past, I \u200crecognize that there is no political solution to this issue. Why do women choose abortion?\u200c The reasons are varied and complex.<\/p>\n<p>Our true victory will come when more young women and\u2063 men have the opportunity to \u200cheal from the damage caused by the pro-choice narrative. However, this healing cannot be achieved \u2063through earthly means alone.<\/p>\n<p>The hard truth is that until\u2062 a major shift occurs, abortion will remain an option for many.
