According to\u2064 Mr. Gottlieb,\u2062 the foundation has been working with Congress to stop President Biden\u2019s\u200c agenda.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s true, once an agency or task force like this is set up, it&#8217;s hard to get rid of it. On the other hand, we have a\u2064 number of Republican members of Congress that are trying to defund it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Doug Taylor of Savage, Minnesota, said this was his fourth \u2062conference,\u2062 and that he\u2019s enjoyed them all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey always do a great job here. Great\u2062 presentation, great\u2064 speakers, and a\u200d great reception,\u201d Mr. Taylor told The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>He\u200c said he \u2062enjoys the camaraderie and the opportunity to be \u200bwith people with a similar worldview. Like Mr. Ayoob, he finds the event re-energizing.<\/p>\n<h2>Camaraderie Is a Draw<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cIt\u200b really \u2062energizes the Second\u2062 Amendment advocates; the people who are there are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/virginia-power-company-is-attempting-to-keep-gun-owners-from-voting\/\" title=\"Virginia Power Company Is Attempting To Keep Gun Owners From Voting\">supporting gun rights<\/a>, civil rights. Coming to \u2062one \u200bof these\u200b events\u2062 gets you re-energized for \u200cthe rest of the year,\u201d he\u200b said.\n<\/div>\n<p>Jennifer Boehme helped attendees register and \u2064said 700 had \u2064signed\u2062 up for the\u2062 conference. She estimated that at least 600 people were in the conference venue \u2063at any time, as some attendees came to hear specific \u2063speakers. \u2063She said the participants she had spoken\u200b to had nothing but positive comments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far, we&#8217;re hearing that participants\u2064 are really enjoying the variety of the speakers, that they&#8217;re also appreciating the fact that they&#8217;re \u200bgetting kind of the nitty-gritty of what&#8217;s going on on \u2062the ground, and how they can be involved,\u201d she told The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<p>Pamela Tyrrell traveled for\u2062 her tenth conference from \u2063Elephant Butte, New Mexico. She said that as a woman, she has always felt \u200cthe responsibility to do whatever was necessary to protect her family. That \u2062includes being\u200c proficient with a gun.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. And I think that we should all protect ourselves because the crimes\u2064 aren&#8217;t [going to] go away,\u201d she told The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<h2>Growing Crime<\/h2>\n<p>Ms. Tyrrell said the recent actions by her \u2062state\u2019s governor highlighted the problem of crime in her state and how some\u200c anti-gun politicians\u2062 react to it. New Mexico&#8217;s \u200cDemocratic Gov. Michelle Lujan-Grisham recently tried to implement a 30-day ban on the public carry of firearms in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County in New Mexico.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The governor\u2062 scaled back the prohibition, though not dropping it\u200c altogether. Her \u200dactions drew a swift and robust \u2063response from state law enforcement \u200dofficials, \u200cgun rights advocates, Republicans, and even \u2064members of her party and gun control activists who said the order went too far.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am so upset. I am so not like-minded with her at all. My mother once told me if you have nothing\u2064 nice to say, don&#8217;t say \u2064anything,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\">\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>New Mexico Gov. (Saul Loeb\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The foundation was among a host \u200dof gun rights\u200c groups that sued Ms.\u2064 Grisham\u2064 in her role as governor\u200d and other state officials over the ban. \u200cThey won a temporary restraining order on Sept. 13, so the action \u2062is on hold until a hearing in October.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>David Laird of Arizona said that story is why he supports the foundation. Some other more well-known groups \u200chave been distracted trying to compromise when they should stand firm, Mr. Laird said.<\/p>\n<h2>Self Defense is a Human Right<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cI \u200bthink that\u2063 other groups \u200cand organizations have been focusing on\u200c all the wrong things and have painted gun owners in the\u2064 wrong light \u200dand have had the opposite effect of what we&#8217;re trying to achieve by protecting constitutionally protected rights,\u201d Mr. Laird \u200btold\u200b The\u200b Epoch Times. \u201cAnd this organization, I think, has just done more of the law and legal work.\u201d\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Adam Kraut is the \u200dexecutive director of the Second Amendment Foundation.\u200b As \u200dthe first day wound down, he said he was pleased with the event. While he has attended previous\u200d conferences and appeared \u2063as a speaker at some, this was his first as director.<\/p>\n<p>The lawyer from Philadelphia said the conference appeared to be on \u200ctrack to\u200d accomplish one of his goals for the event: that is\u200b to frame the issue as being about much more than just guns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the \u200cend \u2064of the day, you know, \u2062the Second Amendment and the debate surrounding it is really about the fundamental right to armed self-defense.
