After‌ residing ⁢in the nation’s capital for over two⁣ decades, they will be returning to China by the end of this year.

Back in December 2000, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, the lovable giant pandas, made their grand entrance at the zoo. Thanks to⁤ the Giant ⁤Panda Cooperative Research and Breeding agreement with the China Wildlife Conservation ‌Association, their stay has been extended three‌ times ⁣since 2010.

This latest renewal is set to expire on December 7, 2023. But before that, the zoo is hosting⁣ a⁣ spectacular nine-day event called “Panda Palooza” to celebrate these magnificent creatures and bid‌ them farewell. ⁢The festival will be packed with panda-themed activities and a chance to meet the pandas and their adorable cub, Xiao Qi Ji.
