So I just\u200b rode a parachute down to the ground. Can you please send an ambulance?\u201d the pilot said.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2063Marines have described the pilot as an\u2062 experienced aviator with decades of experience in the \u200bcockpit.<\/p>\n<p>The F-35 crashed Sunday after a malfunction prompted the pilot to\u2063 eject \u200bover Charleston and land in the \u2063residential backyard not far from \u2062Charleston International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>The fighter jet, which the Marine Corps said was at an altitude of only about 1,000 \u200bfeet (300 meters),\u200b kept flying for 60 miles \u2064(100 kilometers) until it crashed in a rural area near \u200dIndiantown. They said that\u2062 while it was unclear why the jet kept \u2063flying,\u2064 flight \u2063control software would have \u2062worked to keep \u2062it steady if there were\u200c no longer a \u200dpilot&#8217;s hands on the controls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the jet is stable in \u200dlevel \u2064flight, the jet will attempt to stay there.
