});\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the Justice Department <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/us-government-contractor-arrested-espionage-charges\" target=\"_blank\">made an\u2064 announcement<\/a> \u200d that Abraham Teklu\u2064 Lemma, 50, has been \u2062charged\u2062 with espionage for\u200d transferring classified defense intelligence \u200dsuch as satellite images, maps, and notes to an intelligence official \u2062allegedly from Ethiopia.<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ alleges that between December 19, \u200d2022,\u200b and August 7, 2023, \u2064&#8221;Lemma copied classified information from Intelligence Reports and deleted the \u200cclassification markings from them,&#8221; then took the \u2063materials, which had been classified as top secret and secret, from secure State Department\u2063 facilities.<\/p>\n<p>The affidavit alleges Lemma worked in the IT department at\u2062 the U.S. Department of State Bureau\u200b of Intelligence and Research since at least 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Lemma worked \u2064as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/state-department-it-administrator-indicted-on-charges-of-leaking-intelligence-reports-to-foreign-spy\/\" title=\"IT admin indicted for leaking intel reports to foreign spies.\">contract management analyst<\/a> \u2063in the U.S. Department \u200cof Justice, meaning he had a top secret security\u200d clearance since at least\u2063 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The two \u2064espionage\u200d charges carry\u200c a\u200d potential sentence of death\u200c or any term of years up to life, and the retention charge\u2063 carries a maximum sentence of 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>This case is being investigated\u200c by the FBI\u2019s Washington Field\u2062 Office, the State Department\u2019s Diplomatic Security Service, and the Justice Department\u2019s Office of the Inspector General.<\/p>\n<p>A federal judge will determine any sentence based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other\u2063 statutory factors.<\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
