According to its <a href=\"https:\/\/adfontesmedia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>, it is continuously updating its \u201cMedia Bias \u200cChart,\u201d which includes\u200b over 3,000 media \u2064sources graded on\u200c their own \u201cbias\u201d and \u201creliability\u201d metrics. \u2063The organization insists it is objective \u2064because its evaluations stem from the consensus of anonymous analysts who are\u2064 supposedly politically diverse. This couldn\u2019t be further\u2063 from\u2063 the truth.<\/p>\n<p>Ad Fontes analysts evaluate \u200cindividual news articles and other \u200bforms\u200c of media content in groups of three. Even \u2062though the three analysts are supposed\u2063 to include one individual on the left, one on the right, and\u2062 another in \u2062the center, Ad Fontes\u2019 founder and CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/adfontesmedia.com\/about-the-founder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vanessa Otero<\/a> <em>brags<\/em> that \u201c99% of the time,\u201d\u2064 the\u2063 three allegedly diverse analysts arrive at a single score.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Promoting False, Leftist Narratives<\/h2>\n<p>Purportedly \u201cImpartial\u201d\u200b Ad Fontes\u200d promotes\u2062 indisputably false <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/leaked-state-department-memo-sanctions-black-lives-matter-flags-banners-indicates-support-for-radical-blm-agenda-report\/\" title=\"Leaked State Department Memo Sanctions \u2018Black Lives Matter\u2019 Flags, Banners; Indicates Support For Radical BLM Agenda: Report\u00a0\">left-wing narratives<\/a>, such as the\u2062 claim that the \u2063highly \u2063credible Wuhan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tom-cotton-responds-to-ex-cdc-chiefs-belief-that-pandemic-started-in-lab-this-was-never-a-conspiracy-theory\/\" title=\"Tom Cotton Responds To Ex-CDC Chief\u2019s Belief That Pandemic Started In Lab: \u2018This Was Never A Conspiracy Theory\u2019\">lab leak theory<\/a> is\u200d a \u201cbaseless\u201d and \u201cfringe theory.\u201d Indeed, Ad Fontes \u2063gave the infamous\u2064 <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230307003845\/https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/2020\/01\/29\/experts-debunk-fringe-theory-linking-chinas-coronavirus-weapons-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2020 Washington\u2062 Post article<\/a> \u201cdebunk[ing]\u201d the lab leak theory its \u200dhighest reliability \u2064rating.<\/p>\n<p>Ad Fontes also gave a \u201creliable\u201d rating to an article from <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230324151608\/https:\/\/www.theroot.com\/they-ll-erase-us-from-the-future-stacey-abrams-under-1839423881\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Root<\/a>, which claims that Stacey Abrams won \u2063the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election, which she\u2063 did <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/why-stacey-abrams-still-wont-concede-194648579.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">not<\/a>. It\u2062 gave another \u201creliable\u201d\u200b score to\u2062 <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230807040704\/https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2017\/06\/23\/opinion\/trumps-lies.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a story from The New York Times<\/a> that said, \u201cThere\u2019s no evidence of a\u200c wiretap\u201d at Trump Tower. \u2062Trump Tower was indeed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investors.com\/politics\/editorials\/white-house-spied-on-trump-and-lied-about-it-says-cnn-is-this-worse-than-richard-nixon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wiretapped<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-02f279b5d06f3f0b34e881c42659ed1f fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-02f279b5d06f3f0b34e881c42659ed1f\"><\/div>\n<p>Ad Fontes gave a perfectly \u2064\u201cbalanced\u201d rating \u2064to an article by the \u2064CCP \u200bpropaganda publication, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chinadaily.com.cn\/a\/202204\/19\/WS625e094fa310fd2b29e57b2d.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">China Daily<\/a>, which lobbied for a reduction in trade \u2062restrictions between the United States and China. Ad Fontes also gave a perfectly balanced score to <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230403103816\/https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/04\/17\/business\/youtube-ceo-susan-wojcicki.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a New York \u200cTimes \u2063puff \u2064piece<\/a> \u2063 on \u2064former\u2062 YouTube CEO \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/profile\/susan-wojcicki\/?sh=46456393ae33\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Susan Wojcicki<\/a> headlined \u201cThe Most Measured Person in \u200dTech.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy the time\u2063 the article was published, Wojcicki\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/catherine-salgado\/2023\/02\/17\/censored-townhall-says-google-flagged-sen-rand-pauls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">now<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/catherine-salgado\/2023\/02\/16\/buh-bye-youtube-ceo-susan-wojcicki-stepping-down\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">infamous<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/autumn-johnson\/2022\/09\/28\/sen-ron-johnson-requests-youtube-docs-about-censorship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">for<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/paiten-iselin\/2022\/09\/16\/hypocrisy-alert-youtube-ceo-claims-platform-promotes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">her<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/catherine-salgado\/2022\/05\/25\/youtube-ceo-touts-abortion-and-platforms-censorship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">far<\/a>\u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/catherine-salgado\/2021\/09\/27\/youtube-ceo-claims-freedom-speech-core-value-after\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reaching<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/kayla-sargent\/2021\/05\/14\/what-bias-youtube-ceo-susan-wojcicki-denies-political\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">censorship<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/alexander-hall\/2021\/04\/19\/shocker-youtube-ceo-accepts-free-expression-award-event\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">policies<\/a>\u2014had \u200calready been caught <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2019\/01\/17\/youtube-admits-it-meddled-with-abortion-search-results-but-calls-downranked-videos-misinformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">targeting pro-life groups<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2019\/01\/17\/youtube-blacklists-tommy-robinson-from-earning-ad-revenue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">demonetizing journalists<\/a> critical of\u2064 the left, \u2063and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/alexander-hall\/2019\/12\/02\/instance-googleyoutube-bias-300-trump-ads-removed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">systematically removing Republican campaign ads<\/a>,\u201d reported the MRC.\n<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Misleading\u2063 Its Clients<\/h2>\n<p>MRC found that Ad Fontes\u2019 executives \u201crigged\u201d a cherry-picked and condensed <a href=\"https:\/\/adfontesmedia.com\/interactive-media-bias-chart\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">version<\/a> of its \u201cMedia Bias Chart\u201d to fool \u2062clients \u200binto thinking the organization is unbiased. The colorful chart makes it \u200dappear\u2063 like Ad Fontes is critical of just as many \u2062left-wing sources as it is critical of right-wing sources.<\/p>\n<p>MRC\u2019s analysis, however, \u201cshows a completely \u200cdifferent story.\u201d The majority (64 percent) of \u2064media \u2064Ad Fontes labeled \u201cleft\u201d was deemed fully \u201creliable.\u201d These \u201creliable\u201d\u200c sources include CNN, The New\u2062 York Times, ABC, \u200dCBS, and NBC. Only one-third of media labeled \u201cright\u201d was deemed \u201creliable.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-84f765892fa571036c785b5b852aac14 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-84f765892fa571036c785b5b852aac14\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cAd Fontes is 10 times more likely to give its\u200b lowest rating of \u2062\u2018unreliable\u2019 to media on the\u200b right \u2063as it is to\u200d give \u200bthis badge\u200b of shame to\u200c media on the left,\u201d reported the MRC. According to\u200c the MRC, \u201conly \u200d2.9 percent of media\u2062 it considered on the left as \u2018unreliable,\u2019 while it rated\u2063 29 percent of media \u200cit labeled on the right as \u2018unreliable.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For instance, Ad Fontes describes \u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/adfontesmedia.com\/federalist-bias-and-reliability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Federalist<\/a> as \u201cUnreliable, Problematic,\u201d whereas <a href=\"https:\/\/adfontesmedia.com\/cnn-bias-and-reliability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNN<\/a> is \u201cReliable, \u200bAnalysis\/Fact Reporting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ad Fontes\u2019 cherry-picked \u201cMedia Bias Chart\u201d is\u2063 described by\u200b the MRC\u2019s Free Speech \u200cAmerica Vice President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrc.org\/staff\/dan-schneider\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dan Schneider<\/a> as \u201ca veneer of objectivity.\u201d It draws advertisers in and then persuades them\u200b to spend their money on left-wing, predominantly \u200blegacy media organizations.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Radical Left-Wing Leadership<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cBoth Otero and\u200c her top lieutenant <a href=\"https:\/\/adfontesmedia.com\/advisory-board\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Brad \u2063Berens<\/a> are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/meet-ad-fontes-media-the-lefts-latest-tool-for-annihilating-conservative-voices-like-the-federalist\/\" title=\"Introducing 'Ad Fontes Media': The Left's New Weapon Against Conservative Voices, Including The Federalist.\">documented\u200d left-wing\u2063 political activists<\/a>,\u201d reported the MRC. Both admit \u200cto being political ideologues and \u2062have \u200cconsistently contributed to \u2064leftist political candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Berens <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230829190700\/https:\/\/bradberens.substack.com\/p\/why-i-wish-cnn-had-waited-a-day-to\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has referred\u200d to<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TuckerCarlson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tucker \u200bCarlson<\/a> as\u200c \u201ca sexist\u200b pig\u201d and called President \u200dTrump a \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230830162043\/https:\/\/twitter.com\/bradberens\/status\/1133826266195304448\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">white supremacist<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230830161621\/https:\/\/bradberens.substack.com\/p\/musk-trump-twitter-and-new-media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the worst president in the history of this great \u2062country<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He even wrote an open letter imploring Big Tech platforms to permanently ban then-President Trump, \u2064saying in \u2062the letter that he\u2063 has\u200d \u201ca persistent fantasy of seeing Donald Trump\u2019s \u200dfavorite color on a jumpsuit he is\u2062 forced to wear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Berens\u2019 political views \u2062on Trump appear \u200cto be shared\u2064 by Ad Fontes as a whole. After Trump \u2063was indicted in \u200dGeorgia, Ad Fuentes sent \u200dout a gleeful \u2062email that read, \u201cThe wheels \u200cof justice, however slow, had turned in the general direction that they are supposed to turn.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Media filters<\/h2>\n<p>Ad \u2063Fontes has recently added a Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) \u2062\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wBANu4Rfq3k\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">media filter<\/a>.\u201d This new feature \u201callow[s] advertisers to segregate media by\u200b race and sexual orientation of both ownership and audience,\u201d\u200c reported\u200b the MRC.<\/p>\n<p>To benefit \u2064from \u200dthe DEI filters, sources have to \u201cidentify the racial composition of its ownership, hosts or \u2062target audience, and \u200cthen champion it so as to ensure Ad Fontes\u2019s diversity\u200d scorers could spot it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since emphasizing people\u2019s immutable qualities \u200crather than their merits is generally \u2062considered immoral by conservatives, the\u200c filter acts as just another way to penalize\u200d conservatives\u2019 voices while elevating\u200c leftist ones.<\/p>\n<p>The MRC notes that\u200c the DEI filter is also in contradiction to \u201cAd Fontes\u2019s pledge \u200cto focus on\u2062 analysis of \u2018content,\u2019 rather than \u200bpreconceptions and prejudices about \u200cthe media\u2019s speaker or viewer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ad Fontes\u200c is present in \u2064public schools, has contracted with major advertisers, and partners \u2062with tech \u2062giants like\u200b Meta and Microsoft. \u201cTragically,\u201d concludes\u200d the MRC, \u201cevery firm bamboozled into outsourcing its advertising \u200bdecisions to \u2064Ad Fontes is \u200bcomplicit in the defunding of real journalism and turbocharging the revenue stream\u200b for legacy media propaganda.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-8fe709c7bc9b8c48f2727aa868b74409 fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-8fe709c7bc9b8c48f2727aa868b74409\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2>Conservative media organization, The Federalist, as &#8220;hyper-partisan,&#8221; while labeling left-wing publications such as The\u200d Huffington Post and Slate as\u200c &#8220;reliable.&#8221; Critics question the criteria and \u200dmethodology used by Ad Fontes \u2062Media in determining these rankings, and whether it is truly serving the purpose of promoting media literacy\u2062 and unbiased information.<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Media Literacy Organization Ad Fontes \u200dAccused of Bias<\/p>\n<p>Ad Fontes Media, a &#8220;media \u200bliteracy&#8221; organization, has \u2064come \u2063under fire after an in-depth investigation revealed its bias towards left-wing\u2064 viewpoints.
