Kennedy Jr.\u2019s planned meet and greets in Austin, Texas, this \u2063weekend, speculation is mounting that the Democrat\u2063 challenging President Joe Biden for the\u200c party\u2019s nomination could run as an independent.<\/h2>\n<p>Until recent weeks, Mr. Kennedy has insisted\u2064 that he is a Democrat and wants\u200b to restore a party that \u201chas lost its way\u201d from what it\u2062 was when his uncle, John F. Kennedy, Jr. Holds Town Hall Meeting in New York<\/strong><\/a>  &#8211; 8\/30\/2023<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Yet the Democratic National Committee\u2019s warning that New Hampshire \u200bwill face potential penalties if \u2063that state\u2019s Democrat primary does not comply with new\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rfk-jr-is-keeping-all-my-options-open-hints-of-potential-run-as-an-independent\/\" title=\"RFK Jr. considers all options, hints at potential independent run.\">primary calendar plans established earlier<\/a> this year has Mr. Kennedy considering \u201calternatives\u201d \u200dand \u201ckeeping all my options open.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re trying to make sure that I can\u2019t participate\u200c at all in the political process, and so I\u2019m going to keep all my options open,\u201d \u2062Mr.\u200c Kennedy said earlier this \u2064month at\u2063 a town hall in\u2062 South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>A few days later in New Hampshire, Mr. Kennedy told supporters that he would have to make \u200ca decision before Oct. 15 to run as\u200b an independent and that it would require\u200b around $15 million in funds to get on the ballot in \u2063all 50 states.<\/p>\n<p>At \u2062the same town hall, Mr. Kennedy said that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/88-percent-of-black-marylanders-support-hogans-re-fund-the-police-initiative\/\" title=\"88 Percent of Black Marylanders Support Hogan\u2019s \u2018Re-Fund the Police\u2019 Initiative\">internal polling shows<\/a>: \u201cIf I win the Democratic primary, I beat\u2064 [President Donald] Trump by 8 points and \u200c [Florida Gov. Ron] \u200b DeSantis by \u200c11 points.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I \u200dwin \u200bthe Democratic primary, chances are I will have an easy time in the general election,\u201d Mr. Kennedy added.<\/p>\n<p>Getting on the ballot and having votes for him counted, Mr. Kennedy admits, is the \u200dmain challenge.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\" style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"aligncenter\"><figcaption>Robert F. (Jeff Louderback\/Epoch\u200d Times)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Earlier this year, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) voted to\u2063 replace New Hampshire with South Carolina as the \u2064first-in-the-nation primary state.<\/p>\n<p>Under the proposed plan, New Hampshire must hold its primary on the same day as Nevada on Feb. 6, or face possible sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>South Carolina \u2064will conduct its primary on Feb. \u20623.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia and \u200cMichigan would follow,\u200b according to the new schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Iowa, which holds \u200bcaucuses, was removed from the list of early-voting states.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, President Joe Biden lost \u2063in Iowa and New Hampshire to \u2064Vermont\u200d Sen. Bernie Sanders before winning South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>The DNC \u2062Rules and\u200c Bylaws Committee gathered at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in \u2064Washington on Sept. 14 and voted unanimously to give New \u2064Hampshire Democrats another \u2063month to\u2064 provide a 2024 primary plan that complies\u200b with the party\u2019s guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>It marked \u200bthe\u200c third time that the DNC gave an extension to New Hampshire in hopes that state Democrats abide by the national party\u2019s new primary\u2064 schedule.<\/p>\n<p>New Hampshire Democrats have pointed \u2064out that the state legislature is controlled by \u200cRepublicans who are unwilling to change the state law protecting New \u2063Hampshire\u2019s first-in-the-nation status.<\/p>\n<p>If\u200d New Hampshire is \u2063found non-compliant, the state could lose half of its delegates to the \u200cAugust 2024 Democratic National Convention, where the party\u2019s 2024 presidential candidate will be nominated.<\/p>\n<p>An unsanctioned primary would likely keep President Biden off \u2063the ballot.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We committed at the\u2064 outset of\u200d this process to allow \u200cfor every opportunity\u2062 for states to honor the opportunity\u2062 of hosting their nominating contests within the early window. We want \u2062to\u200d recommit to that principle and continue to work with the New Hampshire Democratic Party towards that\u2064 goal,&#8221; Rules \u200cand\u2063 Bylaws Committee co-chair James\u200c Roosevelt said on Sept. 14.<\/p>\n<p>The DNC&#8217;s actions have led Mr. Kennedy to shift his feelings \u2063about remaining in \u2063the Democrat presidential\u2062 primary or seeking an \u200balternative path\u2062 to the presidency.<\/p>\n<p>At a NewsNation town \u2062hall in June, \u200cMr. Kennedy said: &#8220;You know, people have said to me, &#8216;Why don&#8217;t \u200dyou run it as\u200c an \u200dindependent&#8217;\u2063 and I say &#8216;because I&#8217;m a Democrat,&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This \u2064is\u200c who I am. This is\u200b my \u200didentity. But I want my party back. I want my party to be the party that I \u2062grew up in. The party of \u200dJohn Kennedy, the\u2063 party of Robert Kennedy, the party of FDR and Harry Truman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During an interview with The Epoch Times in\u200b Columbia, \u2063South Carolina, last month, he reiterated \u200bthat stance when asked if \u2063he would serve as President Trump\u2019s \u200crunning \u2062mate \u200dor run as an independent or a third-party candidate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m\u2062 a \u2062Democrat. The Democrat \u200dparty has lost its way, and I want to return it to\u2062 its traditional ideals,\u201d Mr. Kennedy said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m hoping to run in the Democratic Party. If it&#8217;s\u200b possible to have\u200c a\u200c fair \u2064election in the Democratic Party, I will\u200b run in the Democratic Party, and I \u200chaven&#8217;t made any kind \u200cof plans other than that,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\" style=\"margin-left:0;margin-right:0;max-width:1200px\">\n<figure style=\"width:640px;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto\" class=\"aligncenter\"><figcaption>Democrat presidential candidate Robert F. (Spencer Platt\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>During town halls and meet and greets in New York \u2064City, \u200bSouth Carolina, and New Hampshire in September, Mr. Kennedy first brought up &#8220;keeping all my options open.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He has widely criticized\u200b the DNC for several weeks for the organization\u2019s\u2062 efforts \u200cto keep him off\u200b the party\u2019s 2024 presidential primary ballot.<\/p>\n<p>In early \u2064September, he said: \u201cIt\u2019s pretty clear that the DNC does \u200bnot want a primary. Essentially, they are fixing the process so that it makes it almost impossible to have democracy \u200cfunction.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They\u2019re effectively\u2062 disenfranchising the Democratic voters from having any choice in who becomes\u200d president, the Democrat nominee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr.\u200b Kennedy \u200cand his campaign insist that\u200c the candidate\u200b wants to compete in \u201cfair\u201d Democrat presidential primaries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re trying to stop the Democratic Party from making a mistake. We\u2019re trying to help\u200b the Democratic Party come to reconcile with its own \u200cvoting base,\u201d Dennis Kucinich, \u2064a former congressman\u200c from \u2062Ohio who ran twice for the Democrat party\u2019s presidential nomination and now serves as Mr. Kennedy\u2019s campaign\u200b manager, told ABC News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRegardless of what\u2019s been said, even by the candidate himself, we have not abandoned \u200bhope for the Democratic \u2064Party,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kennedy, who is the son of the \u2064late Sen. \u200cRobert F.\u200d Kennedy and nephew of President John F. Kennedy and \u200bSen. Ted Kennedy, announced his candidacy in April to challenge President Biden for \u2062the Democrat presidential nomination.<\/p>\n<p>President Biden has a 50 percentage point lead over \u200bMr. \u200dKennedy in most national polls, but\u200c there are growing concerns among many Democrats about the president\u2019s age, mental fitness, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nancy-sinatra-ill-never-forgive-trump-voters\/\" title=\"Nancy Sinatra: \u2018I\u2019ll Never Forgive\u2019 Trump Voters\">low approval rating<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An August poll by the Associated Press indicated that \u206277 percent \u200cof Americans think President Biden is too old to \u200dbe effective for another term.<\/p>\n<p>In \u200dthe survey, 89 percent of Republicans \u200csay that, and so do 69 percent of\u200c Democrats\u200c who responded.<\/p>\n<p>Days after\u200b a House hearing on censorship\u2062 in July that saw Democrats attempt to\u2064 block Mr.\u200d Kennedy from\u2063 testifying, a Harvard\u2013Harris poll showed that he has a higher \u2062favorability rating than any other 2024 presidential candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kennedy drew a favorable rating of 47 percent and \u200ban unfavorable mark of 26 percent, according to a survey\u00a0of 2,068 registered voters, conducted from July 19\u2062 to July 20 and released on July 23.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump carried a favorability \u200drating of \u206245 percent compared with an unfavorability number of 49 percent. Florida Gov. Ron \u2063DeSantis \u200chad a 40 percent \u2063favorable rating and 37 \u200cpercent unfavorable, and President Biden&#8217;s rating was \u206439 percent favorable and 53 percent unfavorable.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kennedy also had the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-trump-comeback-no-one-is-talking-about\/\" title=\"The Trump Comeback No One Is Talking About\">highest net favorability<\/a> of all 2024 \u200dpresidential candidates in a June \u2064poll from The Economist\/YouGov.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPoll after poll, and our private polling, show President Biden losing to almost every Republican presidential\u200b candidate,\u201d Mr. Kennedy said.<\/p>\n<p>Before the DNC\u2019s Bylaws and Rules Committee meeting, Mr. Kennedy released an open letter to the DNC imploring the organization to have \u2063\u201can \u2062honest election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo my dear family of fellow public servants and caretakers of democracy, I would like to offer\u200d a heartfelt invitation.\u00a0Please,\u2062 lead\u2064 by example \u200cand hold the most \u200dtransparent, equal, accessible, \u200band accountable election that has ever been seen in\u200c this country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You have the power to do this. You have the power\u200b to restore the faith of the people\u2014faith in the Democratic Party, and faith in democracy itself,\u201d part of the letter read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe DNC\u200c and\u200d the Joe Biden campaign have essentially merged into one unit,\u200b financially and \u2062strategically, \u200bdespite the promise of neutrality in its charter and bylaws.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The DNC \u200cis not supposed \u2063to favor one \u200ccandidate over another. It is \u200dsupposed to oversee a fair, \u2063democratic selection process, and then support the candidate that its voters choose,\u201d Mr. Kennedy wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting about the\u200d letter, Mr. Kennedy said:\u2064 \u201cI am asking \u2063the leaders of the Democratic Party to lead by example and hold the most transparent, equal, accessible, and accountable\u2064 election\u2063 that has ever been seen in this country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is my most sincere prayer that the DNC will rise to the occasion and restore a greater \u200bdegree of \u2064democracy\u200c to the party\u200d that calls itself Democratic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After\u2062 the DNC Bylaws and Rules Committee meeting, Mr. Kennedy\u200c noted:\u200b \u201cOur primary for the 2024 presidential race is still not free and fair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn honest election would have each state allot delegates\u200d in proportion to the votes\u2064 received.\u200b Sadly, the\u200c DNC chose instead to continue to threaten New Hampshire\u2019s voters by saying that \u200dif their legislature doesn\u2019t change the state election\u200c law\u2063 on short notice, their votes won\u2019t count,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re exerting similar pressure on Iowa. The DNC is actively working to suppress the votes of Iowa and New Hampshire citizens and members of its own party. They are traveling\u2064 around the country in a bus adorned with images of Mr. Kennedy and a slogan that reads \u201cThe Remedy is Kennedy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kemper is the brother of Canadian Prime\u2062 Minister Justin Trudeau and \u200dis an ardent supporter of Mr. Kennedy\u2019s\u200b campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Outside the Omni Shoreham Hotel after the DNC\u2019s meeting, Mr. Kemper told The Epoch Times \u2063that he would support Mr. Kennedy if he sought a \u200bthird-party bid or ran as an independent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is the only hope the Democrats have of bringing the party back to\u200d what it was before \u2064it \u200dbecame so divided,\u201d Mr. Kemper said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn\u200c a perfect world, the Democrats would have fair primaries, and voters would decide who they want. But if he [Mr. Kennedy] decides \u200dto\u200b run as an independent or with a third party, \u2062that would \u200cgive\u200d him even more time to build momentum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mark Gorton \u2063is co-chairman\u200d of \u2064American Values 2024, a Super PAC working to get Mr. Kennedy elected president.<\/p>\n<p>As the DNC held its meeting, Mr. Gorton stood in the\u200d Omni Shoreham lobby with supporters of Mr. Kennedy\u2019s campaign.<\/p>\n<p>He compared the DNC\u2019s move to change the \u200cprimary calendar and its potential decision\u200c to not count\u2063 delegates in states with unsanctioned primaries \u2063to what \u200dthe organization did in 2016 and\u200d 2020 to Sen. Bernie Sanders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all got a chance to watch what the DNC did to Bernie Sanders. He was clearly the most popular candidate in the Democratic primary in 2016 and 2020, \u200band he was well on his way \u200cto\u200d victory, but the DNC played every game \u200dthey could\u2062 to\u2062 sabotage his candidacy \u200dand rig the election,\u201d Mr. Gorton told The \u200dEpoch Times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will \u200bsupport Robert F. Kennedy Jr. whether he runs as a Democrat, an independent, or\u2062 another\u2063 party. There\u2064 is only one decent human being in the\u2064 mix of Trump, Biden, and\u200d Kennedy, and that is Robert F. Kennedy Jr.\u201d Mr. Gorton added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a movement, not just \u2062a campaign.
