The incident occurred between 4:30 p.m. and 4:40 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The Los\u200b Angeles \u200cPolice Department (LAPD) received \u2062a call reporting \u2062a \u200bman in front of the event venue \u200dclaiming to be a\u200d U.S. Marshal. (NTD)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Requests for Protection<\/h2>\n<p>In \u200bJuly, Mr.\u2063 Kennedy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/rfk-jr-says-white-house-wont-give-him-secret-service-protection-5429336?utm_source=open&#038;utm_medium=search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expressed<\/a> his disappointment after his request for Secret Service protection as a presidential candidate was denied\u200c by the Department of Homeland Security.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Since the assassination of my father in 1968, candidates for president \u2063are provided Secret \u2063Service protection,&#8221; Mr. Kennedy wrote on\u200b X. \u200c&#8221;But \u200dnot me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to U.S. law under &#8220;18 USC 3056A,&#8221; the U.S. Secret Service is responsible for protecting &#8220;major presidential and vice presidential candidates and, within 120 days of the general Presidential election, the spouses of such candidates.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The secretary of the Department for Homeland Security (DHS), currently Alejandro Mayorkas, is tasked with identifying &#8220;major&#8221; candidates \u2062in a presidential race in \u2063consultation with congressional leaders.
