(Photo by Win McNamee\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>OAN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/brooke-mallory\">Brooke Mallory<\/a><br \/>5:08 PM \u2013 Thursday, September 21, 2023<\/h2>\n<p>For\u2063 six hours, Attorney General Merrick \u2063Garland faced intense questioning from members of the House Judiciary\u200b Committee regarding the alleged politicization\u2064 of the Justice Department (DOJ) under his leadership.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>The\u2064 hearing on Capitol Hill began at 10:00 a.m.\u200c and stretched into the \u2062afternoon, capturing the attention of Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>Garland faced tough questions about his involvement in the \u200cHunter Biden\u200d probe, which coincided with an impeachment investigation\u2062 against President Joe Biden\u2063 and allegations of corruption within the Biden \u200dfamily.<\/p>\n<p>Garland firmly\u200c asserted\u200c that he is not \u2064&#8221;the\u2062 president&#8217;s lawyer&#8221; and emphasized that the DOJ&#8217;s primary responsibility is to adhere to the facts and the \u2062law.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;I made a promise to the Senate that I would not \u2064interfere or influence\u2064 the investigation,&#8221; Garland stated. &#8220;I will\u2064 not discuss internal Justice Department deliberations,\u2063 regardless of whether they occurred.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Throughout his testimony,\u200b Garland repeatedly denied \u200chaving discussions with \u2063special counsel David Weiss \u200dand assured that Weiss had\u2062 all the necessary resources for\u200d the extensive inquiry \u2062into President \u200bBiden&#8217;s\u200c son.<\/p>\n<p>However, whistleblowers testified before Congress, claiming that Weiss had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/merrick-garlands-6-hour-testimony-at-house-judiciary\/\" title=\"Merrick Garland's Brief House Judiciary Testimony\">previously requested\u2063 special counsel authority<\/a> from the Justice \u200cDepartment in 2022 but was \u2062denied.<\/p>\n<p>Garland eventually \u200cgranted\u200d Weiss\u200b the\u200c authority in \u2064August.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;Mr. Weiss requested\u2062 to be\u200b made special counsel. I had promised to provide him \u200dwith all\u2062 the resources he needed, and I fulfilled that \u200cpromise,&#8221; \u2063Garland testified.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) highlighted Hunter Biden&#8217;s business dealings with Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian natural gas company. Jordan also pointed out that the DOJ allowed the statute \u2062of limitations to expire on potential \u2064tax crimes committed by Hunter Biden during his time on the board.<\/p>\n<p>Garland \u200devaded Jordan&#8217;s direct questions\u200c and shifted the focus \u200bto upcoming statements by Weiss.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;Mr. Weiss was the supervisor of the investigation at all\u2062 times,&#8221; Garland responded. &#8220;He made\u200c the appropriate decisions. You can\u2062 ask \u2063him that question.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;We all\u2063 know why\u2062 they did it,&#8221;\u2062 Jordan\u2064 remarked. &#8220;Everyone knows why they did it\u2014those tax years involving the president. Having a gun charge in Delaware is \u2062one \u200cthing, but Burisma? That goes\u2063 right to the White House.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jordan was alluding to revelations uncovered by House Republicans during\u200b their investigation into allegations of corruption against Joe Biden and his connections to his son&#8217;s\u200c business affairs.<\/p>\n<p>Garland engaged in\u200c a heated exchange with Representative Jefferson\u200b Van Drew (R-N.J.) regarding\u200b the Justice Department&#8217;s handling \u2064of inquiries into Catholic and pro-life organizations.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;Do you \u200dagree \u200cthat traditional Catholics are\u2062 violent extremists, yes or no?&#8221; Van Drew asked, referring \u2064to an anti-Catholic memo that circulated within\u2062 the FBI and led to undercover agents\u200b infiltrating \u200cCatholic churches. \u2062&#8221;Attorney General&#8230; I ask you, do\u2063 you agree that traditional Catholics are violent extremists?&#8221;\u200c Van Drew repeated his question.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;I have no idea what &#8216;traditional&#8217; means in this context,&#8221; \u2064Garland responded, growing\u2062 increasingly enraged. &#8220;The notion\u2064 that someone with\u2064 my family background would discriminate against any religion is so outrageous and absurd that you would\u200d even ask me that question.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;It was your FBI that\u200c did this. \u2062We have the \u2064memos, we have \u200dthe emails\u2014undercover agents were sent into\u2062 Catholic churches,&#8221; Van Drew maintained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Both the director of the \u2064FBI and \u200bI have expressed \u2063our shock at that \u200cmemo,&#8221; Garland\u200c replied.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Representative Chip \u200bRoy (R-Texas) questioned Garland \u200babout \u2064the alleged targeting of parents at school board \u200dmeetings and prominent pro-life\u200d organizations by the Justice Department.<\/p>\n<p>Roy emphasized\u200c that the \u200dDOJ had \u200cprosecuted 126 cases against pro-life groups but only \u200bfour cases\u200d against pro-choice groups during Garland&#8217;s tenure.<\/p>\n<p>Roy\u200b then brought up the case\u200b of Mark Houck, a pro-life activist who was detained by heavily armed FBI agents\u200d in front of his family. Houck faced 11 years in prison for protesting\u200b outside an abortion clinic but was ultimately \u2062acquitted.<\/p>\n<p>Roy also \u200cquestioned why taxpayer money was spent on such \u2062a case, especially considering that the jury deliberated \u2062for only\u200d an hour before finding Houck not guilty.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>&#8220;The Justice\u2062 Department respects the jury&#8217;s verdict.
