Similarly, when it comes to illegal immigration, the federal\u200d government seems to have an endless supply of Band-Aids.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Secretary \u2062of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas made an\u2062 announcement that shook the\u200c nation. An\u2062 estimated 472,000 Venezuelan nationals who are already in the\u200c United States illegally would \u200bnow\u2064 become eligible \u200bfor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-to-allow-hundreds-of-thousands-of-illegal-immigrants-to-stay-and-work-in-u-s\/\" title=\"Biden Admin permits 'hundreds of thousands' of undocumented immigrants to remain and work in the U.S.\">temporary protected \u2064status<\/a> (TPS) and \u200bwork authorization.<\/p>\n<p>This decision, as\u2064 stated in a DHS news release, is an \u200b&#8221;extension\u200b and redesignation&#8221; under an existing \u200cpolicy. It means that the number of Venezuelan \u200bTPS beneficiaries could potentially\u200d exceed 700,000, with 242,700 illegal\u2064 immigrants from Venezuela already benefiting from TPS.<\/p>\n<p>In simple terms, TPS grants\u2062 nearly\u200c three-quarters of \u200ba million illegal immigrants protection from \u2064deportation and the \u200bright to \u200cwork legally in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200c DHS news \u2063release justifies this extension by citing\u200b &#8220;enduring humanitarian, \u2062security, political, and \u2064environmental conditions&#8221; \u200din Venezuela that make \u2062it \u2064unsafe for \u2063illegal immigrants to return. Apparently, for those who \u2064arrived on or after August 1, Venezuela magically becomes a perfectly safe destination.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the \u200cDHS labels Venezuela&#8217;s dire conditions as &#8220;temporary,&#8221; as if government officials possess \u200dthe power \u2063of oracles.<\/p>\n<p>According to Reuters, Democratic leaders have been pushing for illegal immigrants \u2062to receive work authorization. \u200dNew York Mayor Eric Adams, for instance, has witnessed \u200cpublic resources\u200c being depleted as illegal immigrants overrun his \u2064&#8221;sanctuary city.&#8221; Adams has even made apocalyptic predictions about\u200c the future of his city.<\/p>\n<p>While many Americans\u200d welcome immigrants \u2063in genuine need of asylum, it is crucial not to confuse federal immigration\u200b policy with compassion for asylum-seekers.<\/p>\n<p>If the federal government truly wished \u2062to protect the interests of American \u200bcitizens and legal immigrants, \u2064securing the \u2062border would \u2063be the \u2064immediate priority. However, if the \u200dgoal were to flood\u200b the labor market\u200b and \u2062depress wages, opening the border and granting work authorizations to \u200dillegal immigrants under the guise of &#8220;extraordinary and temporary&#8221; \u200cconditions elsewhere\u2064 would be the strategy of choice.<\/p>\n<p>And if federal officials wanted \u200bto add a \u2062touch of\u200d cheekiness, they would set an arbitrary date\u2063 and\u200c declare that those who arrived before that date faced great peril, \u200dwhile those who arrived later did not. After all, there are still\u2063 people who believe they need cloth masks when entering a restaurant but\u200d not when seated at a table.
