To\u2062 the media, the real victim is President Joseph Robinette Biden \u2014 loving father, \u201cdevout \u200dCatholic\u201d and family \u200dman extraordinaire.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In an NBC News report published Saturday that is\u200c unbelievable in how little blame is apportioned to \u200ceither the charged son or\u200c the \u2062chronically enabling\u200c father, one source said Biden has \u201ceven lamented aloud that he might be dead before his son\u2019s case is resolved.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The article began with why Biden says he didn\u2019t run for president in 2016: the loss of his son Beau.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the period between his vice presidency and presidency, Joe Biden was often asked about the campaign he didn\u2019t run. In explaining why he passed on \u2063a White House bid in 2016, Biden would describe how the death of his eldest son, Beau, weighed heavily on him and \u2062his family,\u201d the lede read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo man or woman should announce for \u200bpresident\u2064 of the United States unless they can\u2064 look the public in the eye and say, \u2018I promise you I am\u200b giving 100 percent of my\u200b attention and dedication to this\u2063 effort,\u2019\u201d \u200bBiden \u2063said in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>(Never mind\u2062 the fact that then-President \u2064Barack\u200c Obama made it quite clear that he would much prefer Hillary Clinton over \u200bBiden and that \u2063she had his support in the 2016\u2062 election, according to The New York Times. The \u200cwhole thing sounds better if you \u2062ignore reality.)<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why, NBC reported, \u201cpeople close to the president are increasingly [worried] about how the\u200d legal troubles of \u2063his remaining son, Hunter, could divide his attention at a time when he needs to be fully focused on what\u2019s expected to be a razor close election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA distracted president, perhaps more \u200bprone to mistakes or missteps,\u200c is the political toll people \u200cclose to Biden worry could hurt him in 2024 as his son faces at least one indictment and potentially trials in multiple jurisdictions stemming from his conduct during the\u2063 height of his drug addiction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As NBC noted, things looked pretty rosy just\u200c three months ago, when U.S.\u2063 Attorney David Weiss announced \u200ba plea agreement with Hunter Biden on gun and tax charges. \u2064The charges would all \u2064be dismissed in two years if Hunter were to abide by the terms of the deal.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, U.S. \u200bDistrict Judge Maryellen Noreika rejected the plea\u2062 deal because it was \u2014 in her words \u2014 \u201cconfusing,\u201d \u201cnot straightforward,\u201d \u201cunprecedented\u201d and \u201catypical.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In August, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Weiss as special counsel in the case.
