This contradicts Garland&#8217;s previous claims that \u200cWeiss \u2063had\u200c all the authority he needed \u2062to charge President Joe Biden&#8217;s son \u2063with\u200d various crimes. \u200d<\/p>\n<p>Chairman Jim Jordan called out Garland&#8217;s inconsistency, pointing out that Weiss had been turned down\u200c by a U.S. attorney in\u200d the District of Columbia when he wanted to\u2064 bring charges there. Garland initially claimed that no\u200c one had the authority to turn Weiss down, but then admitted that U.S. attorneys \u2062could refuse to partner with him.<\/p>\n<p>Garland&#8217;s admission undermines his previous assertions that Weiss had complete autonomy in the investigation. Despite this, Garland still \u2063insisted that Weiss had full authority to conduct the investigation as he wished. However, Weiss&#8217;s lack of jurisdiction was confirmed when Garland appointed him as special counsel, granting him the \u200cauthority to charge Hunter \u2063Biden outside \u200bof Delaware.\u200c<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the hearing, Garland tried to portray \u2064himself as hands-off, but\u2062 Republicans saw through his facade when he refused to disclose whether he had any communications\u200b with Weiss about the case. He also\u2062 claimed he couldn&#8217;t remember if he discussed \u2063the investigation with anyone at the FBI.
