Clive,\u2062 better known as DJ Kool Herc, provided the entertainment. During that party, he used a technique he invented, the Merry-Go-Round, in which he alternated between two turntables playing two copies of the same record. DJ Kool Herc had discovered that when\u2062 DJing, the\u200c dancers in the audience enjoyed the \u2063drum breaks the most, so he\u2019d play the break on one turntable and, when it reached its end, switch to the other turntable, which\u200d was cued up to the \u2062start of \u2063the same break.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Thus, hip-hop \u2063was born, though Clive would never go on \u2063to commercial success, instead sticking to block\u200c parties and other social gatherings. His influence, \u200dthough, caused Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa to \u2062begin\u2064 DJing in his style. The former released \u201cThe Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on \u2062the Wheels of Steel\u201d in 1981, showcasing the evolution \u200dof the Merry-Go-Round. The latter released \u201cPlanet Rock\u201d the same year. Along with artists such as Kurtis Blow, the Sugarhill Gang, and, later, Run DMC, LL Cool \u200dJ, the Beastie\u2064 Boys, and myriad others, these\u200b revolutionaries created a new, distinctly American \u200cstyle of music. Fast forward 50 years and we get another party, albeit a little late for back-to-school, hosted by Vice\u2063 President\u200b Kamala Harris at her official residence at the U.S. Naval Observatory.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-73668182\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1ae3871d8fa8daa68a448332b05e64e9 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1ae3871d8fa8daa68a448332b05e64e9\"><\/div>\n<h3>Celebrating Hip-Hop&#8217;s Milestone<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In her remarks on Sept. 9\u2064 celebrating\u200c the milestone, Harris recognized the nature of hip-hop, saying, &#8220;<strong>[Hip-hop]  is\u2063 the\u2064 ultimate American art form. \u2026 It combines rhythms from the continent of \u2064Africa, from the Caribbean, from Latin America with \u2062the sounds\u2063 of \u200dsoul and gospel and R&#038;B and funk to create something entirely new.&#8221;<\/strong> She also highlighted how hip-hop gave voice to the people\u200c born during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-snaps-at-civil-rights-leaders-in-leaked-call\/\" title=\"Biden Snaps at Civil Rights Leaders in Leaked Call\">civil rights movement<\/a>, adding, &#8220;<strong>And so, growing up, my generation \u2014 so many of\u2064 us, our generation \u2014 we didn\u2019t just read about the civil rights movement; we\u2064 were born into it. And hip-hop then presented us\u2064 with a new language to shine a light on injustice and\u200b inequality,\u200c to demand dignity and respect.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So far, so good. At the end\u2064 of her remarks, though, the VP closed with, &#8220;<strong>And so, \u2063half\u200c a century later, it \u200dis clear:\u200b Hip-hop will not be erased. Hip-hop is here to stay.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Someone should tell her that the iconoclasts\u200d haven\u2019t come for hip-hop \u2064yet, though there\u2019s still time, particularly if they start mining the archives of the art form for instances of misogyny\u200b and homophobia. Then, \u200dhip-hop, or at least large\u200c portions of it, could very well be erased, much like Harris erased two other\u2064 distinctly American, and largely black American, \u2063genres while celebrating its anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s important to note at this point what record DJ Kool Herc was playing when he \u2063<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/eric-spitznagel-gen-x-is-running-the-world-and-nobody-even-realized-it\/\" title=\"Eric Spitznagel: Gen X Is Running the World \u2014 And Nobody Even Realized It\">created hip-hop<\/a>. He was applying the Merry-Go-Round\u200b to James Brown\u2019s \u201cGive It \u2064Up or Turnit A Loose,\u201d a\u200d funk song from the Godfather of \u200cSoul. The Godfather, however, got his start as a gospel and rhythm and blues singer.\u2062 And from where\u2064 did the blues arise? From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/san-francisco-public-schools-renaming-plan-rife-with-historical-errors\/\" title=\"San Francisco Public Schools Renaming Plan \u2018Rife With Historical Errors\u2019\">recently freed slaves<\/a> in\u200b the 1860s.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d2205faad0f13a1ae617c829ae2a9d79 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d2205faad0f13a1ae617c829ae2a9d79\"><\/div>\n<p>Combining elements \u200bof spirituals and work\u200b songs, the\u200d blues are the backbone of American music.\u2063 From the\u200c I-IV-V \u2064chord progression, a staple of rock and roll, to its influence\u200d on jazz, another distinctly\u2064 American style developed predominantly\u200c by black Americans, to R&#038;B\u200b to hip-hop, the blues laid the foundation for the 50th \u2064anniversary of hip-hop.\u200c And Harris\u200c just\u2063 erased the blues, ignoring its\u200b foundational nature for basically all modern American music. She even\u200c erased jazz,\u2064 which has been heavily sampled by hip-hop artists over the years.<\/p>\n<p>Granted, to go \u200bthat deep into hip-hop, one has to have more than a surface-level appreciation of the genre, something Harris\u2019 campaign\u200b playlist suggests she \u2062does not have. \u2064Which isn\u2019t \u200cto denigrate her. Lots of people stick to the radio hits, only diving a little deeper when it comes to artists like A\u200b Tribe \u2064Called Quest or the Roots\u200b who, while \u2064more independently minded,\u200d possess breakout appeal.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, though, to celebrate hip-hop\u2019s\u2064 anniversary, highlighting the civil rights movement in the process, without acknowledging the\u2063 throughline to slavery, well, that \u2063is worthy of denigrating Harris. Our first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kamala-harris-hip-hop-tribute-erases-black-history\/\" title=\"Kamala Harris' Hip-Hop Tribute Neglects Black History\">black \u200dvice president<\/a> just\u200c erased over\u2064 150 years of black musicians while proclaiming that \u2064a subsequent \u2063genre,\u200d one that would not exist save for those musicians, will not be erased.<\/p>\n<p>Harris has time to clarify her remarks, something quite common for this administration, and bring these artists back from \u200cthe void. \u200cMoreover, I\u2019m here to help, which is why I\u2019ve curated\u200c a wholly inexhaustive playlist for her. All the VP has\u2064 to do is take the\u2064 time\u200c to do what she has been doing \u2014 and that time is every day \u2014 and plug in her headphones and \u2063do the work.\u200b For the nation, for its musicians, for our future \u2063as a people,\u200d she has\u2064 no choice. Plus, it doesn\u2019t seem\u200d like she\u2019s doing much of anything \u2064else.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> How has hip-hop served as a platform \u2064for addressing social injustices and advocating \u200dfor equality and respect?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  \u2064 And acknowledging its transformative power is important. However, it is equally crucial to recognize the roots and influences \u2063that have shaped \u200cthis \u200dgenre.<\/p>\n<p>Hip-hop emerged from the \u200dcreative experimentation of \u2063DJ Kool\u2063 Herc and his use of the Merry-Go-Round technique. This groundbreaking approach allowed\u200c him to highlight the\u200b drum breaks \u200cthat resonated\u200b with the audience during\u200d his performances. His \u2063influence inspired other DJs like Grandmaster Flash\u2062 and Afrika Bambaataa to adopt this style and push \u200dthe\u200b boundaries of hip-hop even further.
