Tupy,\u2063 modern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-rfk-jr-takes-leftists-school-miracle-drug-says-helped-stop-covid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leftists<\/a> not \u200donly \u2064have \u2064exaggerated in promoting neo-Malthusianism but in fact have inverted the truth.<\/p>\n<p>In short, we need more people, not fewer.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Affluent Liberals \u200band Overpopulation<\/h2>\n<p>By &#8220;modern&#8221; left or leftism, I mean the dominant, anti-human\u200b ideology of\u2062 affluent liberalism. In fact, for \u200dpresent purposes, modern leftism and affluent liberalism amount to interchangeable systems of thought.<\/p>\n<p>Affluent liberalism qualifies as leftist \u2062because it masquerades \u2064as \u200benlightened compassion while leading to authoritarianism.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, affluent liberalism&#8217;s obsession with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-trump-takes-heat-conservatives-calling-abortion-ban-terrible\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abortion<\/a> has \u2062a direct relationship to the overpopulation argument.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/pure.iiasa.ac.at\/id\/eprint\/15226\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2018 \u2063study<\/a> conducted by the International \u2062Institute for \u2063Applied Systems Analysis,\u2063 for instance, demographer Wolfgang Lutz and\u2064 his colleagues predicted that \u2063the global population would not increase as much as United Nations researchers had feared.<\/p>\n<p>A summary of Lutz&#8217;s forecast explained how this slower population\u200c growth would happen and why it would be beneficial.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The trend toward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-birthrate-continues-decline-should-government-encourage-having-babies\/\" title=\"US Birthrate Continues Decline; Should Government Encourage Having Babies?\">lower population growth<\/a> is good news because it means\u200d that the global\u200b expansion of reproductive freedom is empowering more families to decide how many children they \u2064wish to have,&#8221; the summary read.<\/p>\n<p>In other \u200bwords, lower\u200d population growth constitutes a positive\u2062 good <em>because <\/em>it reflects \u2063expanded &#8220;reproductive freedom.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, affluent liberals&#8217;\u2062 obsession with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dem-mayor-cites-climate-change-in-issuing-panicky-emergency-closures-for-real-summer-sizzler-88-degrees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">climate change<\/a> \u2064has roots in \u200cneo-Malthusianism.<\/p>\n<p>In a 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cato.org\/commentary\/does-world-face-underpopulation-problem\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article<\/a> highlighting the key argument advanced in \u200bhis aforementioned \u200dbook &#8220;Superabundance,&#8221; Tupy cited Democratic Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/radical-ignore-aoc-sends-aggressive-demand-biden-climate-march\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez<\/a> \u2062 of New York as an unfortunate symbol of this\u200d fusion between overpopulation fears and climate extremism.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is basically a scientific consensus that the lives of our children are going to be very difficult, and it does lead young\u200b people to have a \u200blegitimate question: is \u2062it\u200c OK \u200bto still have\u2064 children?&#8221; Ocasio-Cortez\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/video\/2019\/02\/25\/alexandria_ocasio-cortez_ponders_moral_climate_change_question_is_it_still_okay_to_have_children.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a 2019 social media post.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, as\u2062 core political \u200dconcerns, abortion and climate change have no inherent appeal to the working class.<\/p>\n<p>In\u2062 fact, poor people have good reason to \u200dsuspect that \u2062affluent \u2063liberals \u200dare\u200d not their friends.<\/p>\n<p>After all, affluent\u200c liberals openly tout \u200babortion as a\u200b way to keep poor people from multiplying.<\/p>\n<p>Affluent \u200cliberals also stoke fears of climate change as a way to keep \u2064poor people from consuming scarce resources. Al Gore and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/op-ed-jet-setting-climate-change-scolds-like-bill-gates-john-kerry-just-keep-getting-bolder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Kerry<\/a> may fly on private jets, but the peasants must <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/massachusetts-climate-official-on-people-producing-emissions-we-have-to-break-your-will\/\" title=\"Massachusetts Climate Official On People Producing Emissions: \u2018We Have To Break Your Will\u2019\">reduce carbon emissions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Poor people have good reason\u2064 to\u200d suspect these things because they have seen them in the past.<\/p>\n<h2>Historical Malthusianism<\/h2>\n<p>Malthus&#8217; most famous \u200dwriting, &#8220;An Essay on the Principle of Population&#8221;\u200b (1798), coincided with the early Industrial Revolution in England. Thus, \u2062it prompted some influential social reformers \u2014 i.e., busybodies \u2014 to \u2063blame England&#8217;s\u2063 working poor\u200c for their own miseries.<\/p>\n<p>The poor marry too early and have \u200ctoo many children, reformers said. Furthermore, \u2064those children consume too much. England&#8217;s working \u200cpeople, therefore, must learn restraint and austerity.<\/p>\n<p>Malthus himself deserves only a fraction of the blame. In fact, those \u2064busybody reformers \u2063\u2014 \u200bthe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-mayor-adams-admits-defeat-warns-crowd-new-york-city-will-destroyed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">affluent liberals<\/a> of \u200dtheir day \u2014 turned Malthus&#8217; theory to political \u2063purposes.<\/p>\n<p>Then, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/counting-down-the-7-worst-contracts-in-mlb-history\/\" title=\"Counting Down The 7 Worst Contracts In MLB History\">funny thing happened<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>England&#8217;s working-class radicals forged \u2062a political alliance with some conservative Tories.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Although Jacobin and Tory are at opposed political poles,&#8221; the \u200cMarxist historian\u200d E.P. Thompson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.academia.edu\/30385746\/E_P_Thompson_Making_of_the_English_Working_Class_Vintage_1966_1_\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>, &#8220;sparks of feeling and of argument are continually exchanged between them,&#8221; for the Malthusian reformers\u2062 presented Tories with &#8220;an ultimate choice between the values of order and those of humanity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Today, while we remain committed \u200bto a just social order and to the\u2062 traditional\u200d values that sustain it, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/conservatives-sound-alarm-biden-returns-masking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conservatives<\/a> \u200bin large numbers have rallied to the defense of humanity against affluent liberal neo-Malthusianism.<\/p>\n<h2>The Economic Benefits \u2062of a Surging Population<\/h2>\n<p>Finally, Tupy&#8217;s \u20632022 article explained why modern\u200d leftists have inverted \u200cthe truth about population.<\/p>\n<p>In sum, he showed that &#8220;time prices&#8221;\u2062 \u2014 how much time a \u200dlaborer must spend working in order to afford a\u200c particular\u200c commodity \u2014 have sharply declined as the global population has soared\u2062 since 1960. Hence, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/marian-tupy-does-the-world-face-an-underpopulation-problem\/\" title=\"Marian Tupy: Does the World Face an Underpopulation Problem?\">personal resource abundance<\/a>&#8221; increased\u2063 by \u2063527 percent over the same period.<\/p>\n<p>This\u2064 led to a remarkable\u200c conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On average, every additional human being created more value than he\u2063 or she consumed,&#8221; Tupy wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Superabundance\u200b occurs when people are free to think and thus\u200c innovate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Such\u2062 people can create tremendous value&#8221; through their innovations,\u2063 Tupy noted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Earth&#8217;s atoms may be fixed, but the possible combinations of those atoms are infinite,&#8221; he added. &#8220;What matters is not the physical limits of our planet, but human\u200b ability to \u2063reimagine the use of resources that we already have.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Thus, people produce prosperity. Their mere existence raises the standard\u2063 of living.
