The application period opens at 8 a.m. and ends on October 2 at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n<h3>Eligibility Requirements<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Must\u2062 be a resident of the\u2064 city of L.A., regardless of \u2062immigration status<\/li>\n<li>Must have experienced a loss of employment, reduction in household income, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/convicted-hoaxer-jussie-smollett-facing-multiple-lawsuits-chicago-police-sue-for-130k\/\" title=\"Convicted Hoaxer Jussie Smollett Facing Multiple Lawsuits: Chicago Police Sue for 0K\">incurred significant costs<\/a>, or faced other financial hardships between \u200bMarch 2020 to \u200cpresent<\/li>\n<li>Must have unpaid rent due to \u2062their\u200d current landlord for\u200c any month(s)\u2062 between April 2020 to present<\/li>\n<li>Current household income is at or below\u2062 80 percent of the \u2064area medium income<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The program has a total funding of $18.4 million \u200davailable. \u200bIt is important to note that this is not a first-come, first-serve portal. \u2064Applications can \u200cbe submitted\u200b at any time during the application period.<\/p>\n<p>This initiative marks the fourth time the city \u200bhas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-reject-measure-to-provide-funds-for-israels-iron-dome-block-attempts-to-sanction-hamas-reports\/\" title=\"Democrats Reject Measure To Provide Funds For Israel\u2019s Iron Dome, Block Attempts To Sanction Hamas: Reports\">provided financial assistance<\/a> for paying back rent since the start of the pandemic. While the available funding may not meet \u2062the entire\u200b need, it is a significant step forward in addressing the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Anna Ortega, the assistant general manager of the housing department, encourages renters in need to visit the housing department&#8217;s website for comprehensive information. Bilingual services are available, and\u200c interpreters can be arranged for other languages.<\/p>\n<p>Renters can also seek assistance with their\u2062 application by scheduling appointments in-person or visiting \u2062a Family Source Center.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the Housing Department plans to introduce\u2062 an online portal on October\u200d 23 to \u2064provide financial assistance for small landlords who own 12\u200c or fewer\u2064 units. This \u200dwill give landlords whose tenants may not have applied in \u200bthe first phase an opportunity to submit their application.<\/p>\n<p>By implementing the Emergency Renters Assistance Program and\u200c other measures, Los \u2062Angeles aims to protect tenants, support affordable housing, and prevent evictions during these challenging times.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> How will approved applicants receive the financial assistance for \u2064unpaid rent and how long will\u2062 it take<\/h2>\n<p><span>  Immigration status<\/li>\n<li>Must\u2062 be\u2063 at\u200b least 18 years old<\/li>\n<li>Must\u2062\u200d be able \u2064to demonstrate a \u2064risk of homelessness or housing instability \u2063due to COVID-19 or financial hardships<\/li>\n<li>Must\u2064 have a household income at or \u2063below 80%\u200d of \u2062the Area \u200bMedian Income (AMI) prior to \u2062the pandemic<\/li>\n<li>Must\u2062 have a current rental agreement or\u2063 lease in the\u200d city of L.A.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additionally, priority will be given to households with the lowest incomes and those who have\u200b experienced\u2062 a greater financial impact due to the pandemic, such as \u200djob loss or reduced \u2063hours.<\/p>\n<p>Funds will be distributed \u200bon a first-come, first-served basis, with\u2063 an emphasis on equitable distribution across\u200d the city. The program will \u2064prioritize applicants \u200bwho live in neighborhoods disproportionately affected by\u2063 COVID-19 and communities with high rates of homelessness.<\/p>\n<p>Approved applicants will\u200b receive direct payments to their landlords to cover unpaid rent. Payments will \u2062be made within two weeks of approval, and tenants will be notified by email\u2064 or mail.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200d city of Los Angeles is currently facing an urgent housing crisis, worsened by the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many low-income renters have lost their jobs \u200bor experienced reduced \u200dincome, making it \u2064challenging to keep\u2062 up with rent payments.
