Mr. Adams said. &#8220;They dropped the babies off to\u2064 a daycare center hoping that their children would be\u200b protected by \u200cthe caregivers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Democrat mayor also expressed gratitude towards the New York Police Department for their thorough\u2063 investigation into \u200dthe baby\u2063 boy&#8217;s death and\u200b the swift \u200darrest of the two suspects.<\/p>\n<p>According \u2063to \u2063police reports, first responders were called to Divino Nino Daycare in\u200b the Bronx&#8217;s\u2064 Kingsbridge Heights \u200dCommunity on \u200dSeptember 15 after receiving reports of cardiac \u200darrest.<\/p>\n<p>Upon arrival, officials discovered three children\u2014two 2-year-old boys and an 8-month-old\u200d girl\u2014who were unresponsive and \u200bshowing signs of opioid exposure.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\">\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Fentanyl pills found by officers from the Drug \u200dEnforcement Administration are \u200cseen in \u2062this handout picture, in New York, on Oct. 4, 2022. (Drug Enforcement Administration\/Handout via Reuters)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Fentanyl\u2062 Found at Daycare<\/h2>\n<p>First responders \u200badministered\u200c Narcan to the \u200dthree children, and while two of them\u2014a 2-year-old boy and an \u20648-month-old girl\u2014recovered, the \u2063one-year-old boy tragically passed away\u2062 at Montefiore Hospital.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Furthermore, it was discovered that \u2062another child, \u200ba\u200d 2-year-old boy, had been taken \u200bhome by his\u2064 mother earlier in the day. However, the\u2063 mother noticed that the\u200b child was acting \u200dlethargic and unresponsive, prompting her to rush him to BronxCare\u2064 Hospital \u200cwhere \u2064his \u2062life was \u2062saved thanks to\u2063 the administration of Narcan.<\/p>\n<p>Police \u200cconfirmed that all the children tested positive for fentanyl in their systems.<\/p>\n<p>During the search of the \u200bdaycare center, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nyc-mayor-calls-for-national-assault-on-fentanyl-after-1-year-old-dies-of-suspected-opioid-exposure\/\" title=\"NYC Mayor urges nationwide action against fentanyl after infant's suspected opioid death.\">authorities found drug production equipment<\/a>,\u200d including three-kilo presses commonly used for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/search-warrant-executed-on-day-care-after-1-year-old-dies-disturbing-equipment-found\/\" title=\"Day care searched after baby's death, disturbing items discovered.\">packaging large quantities<\/a>\u2064 of drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a kilogram\u200c of fentanyl was found in an area where \u200dthe children took naps. (John Fredricks\/The Epoch Times)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>&#8216;Full National Assault&#8217; on Fentanyl Needed<\/h2>\n<p>According to officials, Mr. Brito was a tenant \u200drenting a room from Ms. Mendez inside the \u2064daycare center.\u200c He arrived in\u200c the \u200bUnited States from the Dominican Republic\u2064 around the same time the daycare center opened. \u2063The police, along with federal\u200d partners and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), are investigating the timing of the daycare center&#8217;s opening.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>As part of the ongoing investigation,\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/public-radio-reporter-arrested-for-firebombing-police-cars\/\" title=\"Public Radio \u201cReporter\u201d Arrested For Firebombing Police Cars\">law enforcement officials<\/a> are also seeking to speak with another person \u200dof interest.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;This is just total madness\u2064 that we lost a child to\u2064 this dangerous substance, and \u2064we almost lost three. We almost lost four children to this dangerous substance. There needs\u200d to be a full national assault on\u2063 this drug\u2062 entering our\u2064 city. This is a new drug. \u200dThis is not a\u2063 new type of battle,\u2063 and people need to understand this. \u2063This\u2063 is not\u200b the marijuana on your tabletop, this is a dangerous \u2064drug that a small amount\u200b like this can kill an\u2064 adult,&#8221; Mayor Adams \u2064emphasized.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;So, if you are handling this and you have\u2063 it \u200don your hands, you have it\u200c on your clothing \u2062and then you pick up your\u2064 child, you&#8217;re exposing them\u200b to the potential\u200d of this danger,&#8221; \u200dhe added.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor \u200cAdams pointed out that neither Ms. Mendez nor Mr.\u2062 Brito had prior arrests before their recent charges. He also mentioned that Ms. Mendez was acting as the caretaker of \u2062the daycare facility when the babies were discovered with\u2062 symptoms of opioid exposure.<\/p>\n<p>Police are continuing their investigation and are currently seeking to question Ms. Mendez&#8217;s husband.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, \u2064Ms. Mendez&#8217;s \u2062attorney has claimed that \u2062she was unaware of the drugs being stored in her daycare center by \u200dMr. Brito, who is reportedly her husband&#8217;s\u2063 cousin.<\/p>\n<p>During his client&#8217;s arraignment, \u2062attorney Andres Aranda stated, &#8220;Her only crime \u200bwas renting her room to someone who had a kilo.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is no evidence that she did anything but care properly for these children,&#8221; the lawyer added.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> How will the national assault \u200con\u2064 fentanyl and\u200b the increased resources from federal authorities contribute to combating the opioid crisis \u2064in daycare facilities?<\/h2>\n<p><span>  A room in the daycare facility, while Ms. Mendez was an\u200b employee at the center. It is believed that the two suspects were involved \u200din \u200dthe \u2063production and distribution of fentanyl within the facility.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Mayor Adams has called for a &#8220;full national assault&#8221; on fentanyl, emphasizing\u2064 the need for a coordinated effort \u2062to combat the opioid crisis that has\u200b claimed countless lives across\u200b the country. He stated, &#8220;This tragedy highlights the\u200d urgent need for a comprehensive approach to address the fentanyl \u2063epidemic, not only in New York City but nationwide.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that is up to 100 times \u2062more potent than morphine, has become a \u200bgrowing concern in\u200d recent years. The drug is often mixed with other substances, such as heroin or cocaine,\u2064 increasing the risk of overdose. Its potency and prevalence have \u200bcontributed to a significant increase in overdose deaths.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor\u2063 Adams called on federal authorities, including the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Department of Justice, to allocate more resources to combat the fentanyl epidemic.
