consider this\u200c recent monologue \u200din which the candidate ripped \u200dinto \u201cderanged Jack Smith\u201d for seeking the gag order:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">President Trump \u2062hits \u201cderanged\u201d Jack Smith\u2019s\u2064 request for gag order <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xBxavjvNId\">pic.twitter.com\/xBxavjvNId<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 RSBN  (@RSBNetwork) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RSBNetwork\/status\/1702868856287510786?\">September 16, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Smith insisted \u2063in a Friday court <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.dcd.258149\/gov.uscourts.dcd.258149.57.0_1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filing<\/a> that\u2064 the\u200b gag order would be \u201cnarrowly tailored\u201d and designed \u2064to stop \u200bTrump from making what \u2062Smith\u200d called \u201cdisparaging and inflammatory attacks on the citizens of this District, the Court, \u200dprosecutors, and prospective witnesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trumps-not-even-slightly-worried-going-jail-built-little-differently-guess\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump<\/a> he wants silenced, either; in the filing, he said, \u201cA supplemental order that extends some of the prohibitions that apply to defense\u200b counsel to the \u2063defendant himself is particularly warranted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShortly after the indictment in this case was unsealed,\u201d the filing said, \u201cunsealed, the defendant\u2019s lead counsel began a series of lengthy and detailed interviews in\u2062 which he potentially tainted the jury pool by disseminating information \u2064and opinions about the case and a potential\u200b witness and described in detail legal defenses that he plans to mount,\u200c including defenses that may never be raised in\u2064 court\u200d or that may be rejected by the\u200c Court \u2063before ever reaching the jury.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Smith wants Trump\u2019s attorneys gagged, too <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/H89ObsnOU1\">pic.twitter.com\/H89ObsnOU1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Julie Kelly\u2062  (@julie_kelly2)\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/julie_kelly2\/status\/1702801127413092794?\">September 15, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Turley&#8217;s Critique of Smith&#8217;s \u2063Gag Order<\/h3>\n<p>In a column published on his <a href=\"https:\/\/jonathanturley.org\/2023\/09\/17\/gagging-donald-trump-why-smiths-narrowly-tailored-motion-is-a-neither-narrow-nor-wise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">personal\u2063 blog<\/a> and in the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/09\/16\/jack-smith-goes-too-far-in-trying-to-gag-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a>, Turley \u2014\u2064 a professor at George Washington University who has \u200btestified before Congress on constitutional issues, including during Trump\u2019s impeachment hearings \u2014 said there was a new addition to former President Ronald \u200bRegan\u2019s \u201cnine most\u200c terrifying words in the English\u200c language.\u201d (\u201cI\u2019m \u200bfrom the Government, and\u2064 I\u2019m\u200b here to help.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter Friday \u200bnight, we can add nine more: \u2018a narrowly tailored order that imposes modest, permissible restrictions,&#8217;\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>In the column, Turley called the prospective\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/jack-smith-files-gag-order-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gag order<\/a> \u201canything but \u2018narrowly tailored&#8217;\u201d and said\u2062 that \u201cshort of a mobile \u2018Get Smart\u2019 Cone\u200b of Silence, it is chilling to think of what Smith considered the broader option.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For those of you unfamiliar with the adventures \u200bof Maxwell Smart\u2019s \u200bAgent 86, here\u2019s what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/liberal-scholar-jonathan-turley-blasts-impeachment-says-dems-creating-crimes-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Turley<\/a> was referencing:<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-embed\">\n<\/div>\n<p>As he noted, Smith said Trump\u2019s comments on the 2020 election and its aftermath\u2064 were \u201cdisinformation\u201d and that since \u200cthis was the subject of one \u200dof the indictments, Trump\u2019s \u201crecent extrajudicial statements are intended to undermine public confidence in an institution \u2014\u200d the judicial system \u2014 and to undermine confidence in and\u2064 intimidate individuals \u2014 the Court, \u2064the jury pool,\u200b witnesses, and prosecutors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thus, Smith wants to stop the former president from talking about anything \u201cregarding the \u2062identity, testimony, or credibility of prospective witnesses\u201d and \u201cstatements about any party, witness,\u2064 attorney, \u200ccourt personnel, or potential jurors that are disparaging\u200c and\u200b inflammatory, \u2063or intimidating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/turley-hard-imagine-stronger-case-special-counsel-biden-familys-influence-peddling-scheme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Turley<\/a> said this amounted to gagging the \u2064political opposition.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\" class=\"one-half\">\n<div class=\"firefly-poll-question\">Will Trump get a fair \u200btrial?<\/div>\n<div id=\"pollFormBox\" style=\"display: none\">\n<p>\t\t<label>Yes<\/label><br \/>\n\t\t<label>No<\/label><br \/>\n\t\t<\/p>\n<div class=\"firefly-poll-disclaimer\">\n<p>\t\tCompleting this poll entitles you to The Western Journal \u2062news updates free of charge. Robert\u2062 McDonnell,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>In that case, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/jack-smith-went-republican-case-got-overturned-scotus-unanimously\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Smith prosecuted McDonnell<\/a> and\u200b his wife in 2014 \u200bfor \u201cparticipating in a \u200bscheme to \u2062<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/turley-savages-jack-smith-lays-out-the-truth-about-his-narrowly-tailored-gag-order\/\" title=\"Turley criticizes Jack Smith, reveals truth on his restrictive gag order.\">violate federal public \u200dcorruption laws<\/a>.\u201d While they got a guilty verdict \u200cbefore a jury, it was vacated unanimously by the Supreme Court in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>In his ruling, Chief Justice John Roberts said that \u2063while there is \u201cno doubt that this case is distasteful,\u201d the problems \u2063lay\u200b \u201cwith the broader legal implications \u2063of the Government\u2019s boundless interpretation of the \u200cfederal bribery statute.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This case has even broader political implications,\u200b especially considering what Smith is prosecuting is <em>part<\/em> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/lawsuit-kick-trump-off-2024-ballot-filed-minnesota\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">presidential campaign<\/a> this cycle.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s \u2063also undermining trust in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/d-c-mayor-congress-must-open-a-probe-into-security-failures-at-u-s-capitol\/\" title=\"D.C.
