Gavin Newsom Defends\u200c President\u200d Biden&#8217;s Age and Highlights Democratic Party \u200dUnity<\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI remember Bobby Kennedy said it best:\u2063 \u2018The world \u2062needs qualities\u2064 of \u2064youth,\u200b not a time of \u2062life, \u200dbut a \u200dstate of mind, a \u200bquality of imagination,\u2019\u201d Newsom told CNN. \u201cI couldn\u2019t \u2063imagine 30 years ago that this president could accomplish so much in such a short period of \u2064time. \u200bI mean that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>House Republicans Opposing Stopgap Spending\u2063 Measure<\/h3>\n<p>Newsom emphasized the importance of focusing on the entire Democratic party rather\u2062 than solely on President Biden, who will be 81 in\u2064 November.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not just about \u200cone guy or \u200dgal on the\u2062 white horse that\u2019s\u200d going to save the\u2063 day for everybody,\u201d the California \u200cgovernor added. \u201cIt\u2019s the responsibility\u200d of the entire party.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite \u200bspeculation,\u200d Newsom\u200d firmly denied any \u200dplans\u200d to run \u2063for president in 2024 and\u2062 expressed \u2063his unwavering\u2064 support for a second term of the Biden-Harris\u200d administration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want a guy who produces, and the results are in,\u201d Newsom said passionately about Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. \u201cIt\u2019s been a \u2062master class. There\u2019s simply no administration in my lifetime \u200cthat\u2019s \u2063been more\u2062 effective, producing \u2063more substantive results, and\u200c we haven\u2019t even started the campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When questioned about Biden&#8217;s alleged involvement in his son \u2063Hunter Biden&#8217;s business dealings, Newsom\u200d dismissed it as a common occurrence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf that\u2019s the new \u2064criteria, there are a \u2062lot of folks and a lot of industries, not just\u2062 in politics, where people \u2063have family members \u2063and relationships, and\u200d they\u2019re trying to parlay and \u200cget a little \u200dinfluence and benefit in that respect. That\u2019s\u200b hardly unique,\u201d Newsom explained. \u201cI don\u2019t love that \u2063any \u2064more than you love\u200d it or other\u2063 people I\u200b imagine \u200blove that.\u2064 We\u200c want\u200b to see a lot less of that, but [an] \u2062 impeachment inquiry? Give me a break. This is student government. Student \u200dgovernment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Continuing his criticism, Newsom labeled the threat of \u2062a \u2063government shutdown\u200d as a joke \u2062and compared it to student government antics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThreatening a \u200bgovernment shutdown again after we went through that process with the debt ceiling. This \u2062is student government,\u201d\u2064 the Democratic governor \u2064continued. \u201cThis is a \u200bjoke. Ready, fire, aim. I mean, this\u200d is \u200ba perversity \u200cthat the \u2063founding fathers ever conceived of and imagined. \u200bSo, if that\u2019s\u200c the best they can do, give me a\u200d break. That\u2019s about public opinion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Newsom also advised Biden\u2064 to refrain from interfering \u2062in the investigation or indictments against his son.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI \u200bthink he\u2019s taking the right approach. It\u2019s tough personally for him not to be \u2062able to say more, I can\u200c imagine,\u201d Newsom said. \u201cForget the \u2063politics. End of \u200bthe \u200dday, \u200dwe come and go. He\u2019s\u2064 a future\u200c ex-president. I expect that will happen in five-plus years. However, some Republicans are pushing for amendments to the bill that would limit its\u2063 duration or tie it to other legislative\u200c priorities.<\/p>\n<p>Newsom\u200d argued that\u2063 these tactics are simply an attempt to distract from the accomplishments of the Biden administration and divide \u200cthe Democratic party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a Republican party that is becoming more and\u2062 more extreme, and their only\u2064 strategy seems to be obstruction,\u201d Newsom\u200d said. \u201cThey don\u2019t have a plan to govern, so they try to throw up roadblocks and create chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The California governor pointed\u200c to the Affordable Care Act and the American Rescue Plan as examples of\u2062 the Biden administration\u2019s \u2064success in passing legislation that benefits the American people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are major accomplishments that have a real impact on people\u2019s lives,\u201d Newsom\u200d said. \u201cBut instead of focusing on that, \u2063we have Republicans in Congress trying to tear it all\u2063 down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Newsom\u200d also highlighted the importance of party unity in achieving these goals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to \u200bremember that\u2063 the Democratic party is a\u2063 coalition,\u201d Newsom\u200d said. \u201cWe have different voices and different perspectives, but we are united\u2063 in\u200c our\u200d commitment to progress. We can\u2019t let ourselves\u2064 get distracted by infighting and personal ambitions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite his defense of President Biden\u2019s\u200d age, Newsom\u200d did acknowledge that there will come a \u200dtime when a new generation of leaders will need to step\u2063 forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut that time is \u2063not now,\u201d\u2062 Newsom\u200d said. \u201cRight now, we have \u2064a president who is getting \u200bthings done.
