And the J6 Committee refused \u200bto interview her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When interviewer \u2062Kristen Welker asked why President\u200b Trump did \u2063not \u201csend help in that moment\u201d\u2063 during the\u2064 Capitol breach, he replied,\u200d \u201cI assumed \u2063that [Pelosi] took care of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand that the police testified \u200cagainst her\u2014the chief,\u2062 very strongly against her.\u200b Capitol \u2063Police,\u200b they\u2019re \u200dgreat people. They testified against her.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode post-related-videos\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>President Trump said the Jan. 6\u200c committee \u201cdestroyed all the evidence\u201d related \u200bto \u200bthe incident.<\/p>\n<h2>Dispute Over \u200bAuthority<\/h2>\n<p>In an interview \u200dwith\u2064 The Epoch\u2064 Times in July 2022, former Pentagon chief of staff\u200b Kash\u200d Patel\u2014who is\u2064 also an Epoch Times \u200ccontributor\u2014said that President Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/president-trump-authorized-but-did-not-order-national-guard-for-duty-on-jan-6-former-aide-says-4621470\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">authorized up to\u200b 20,000 National Guard troops<\/a> days before Jan. 6. However, \u201cPelosi and [D.C. Mayor Muriel] \u2064 Bowser rejected\u2064 it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) accused President Trump of not deploying the\u2063 National Guard to protect the Capitol. Mr. Patel dismissed the suggestion, saying that\u2062 such a move would have been unlawful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCheney knows it&#8217;s unconstitutional \u2064for any president to ever order\u200b the military to deploy domestically. He may only authorize their use, then there must be a request,\u201d\u200d Mr. Patel said.<\/p>\n<p>The Capitol\u200b Police Board is in charge of deciding whether to call in \u2062the National Guard.\u2062 The board is made \u200dup \u2062of the Architect\u2064 of the Capitol, the House sergeant-at-arms, and the Senate sergeant-at-arms.<\/p>\n<p>The House sergeant-at-arms reported to \u2063Ms. Pelosi and the Senate \u2063sergeant-at-arms reported to Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who at that time was the Senate majority leader. Both sergeants resigned\u200c immediately following the \u200dJan. 6 breach.<\/p>\n<p>According to The Associated\u2064 Press, the \u2063board decided not to call in the guard\u200d ahead of \u200dJan. 6 \u2062but eventually\u200c requested assistance\u200d on that day after the breach began.<\/p>\n<h2>Pelosi Responds, GOP Report Blames Democrats<\/h2>\n<p>Ms. Pelosi responded to President Trump\u2019s accusations in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/capehart\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MSNBC<\/a>,\u200b insisting that the former president \u201chas always been about projection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe knows he\u2019s responsible for that, so he projects it onto others. His instigation of insurrection, an assault on our Constitution the day we were supposed\u2064 to approve\u2014and we did\u2014the work of the Electoral College, \u200dthe results of the Electoral College, the assault on the Capitol building, the assault on the Constitution, the assault on our democracy. \u200cShame on him,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe always projects. A December 2022 report by five House Republicans also blamed Ms. \u200dPelosi as well as the \u200bDemocrat leadership for what happened on that day.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>The report (<a href=\"https:\/\/banks.house.gov\/uploadedfiles\/final_report_of_investigation_real.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) accused then-House sergeant-at-arms Paul Irving of having \u201csuccumbed to political pressures\u201d from Ms. Pelosi and the House Democrat leadership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe coordinated closely with the Speaker\u2064 and her staff and left\u200b Republicans out of important discussions related to security,\u201d the report said. \u2064\u201cBut rather than coordinate in a meaningful way, Irving only provided information to Republicans after \u200creceiving instruction\u2062 from the Speaker\u2019s office.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>\u201cOn\u200c February 9, 2022, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said, \u2018I have no power over the Capitol Police.&#8217; This is false. Documents provided by the House Sergeant at Arms\u2064 show how then-House Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving carried\u2062 out his duties in clear\u2062 deference to the Speaker, her staff, and other Democratic\u200c staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Investigating J6 Committee<\/h2>\n<p>The Jan. \u20636 committee which investigated President\u2062 Trump is also facing accusations of failing to preserve critical data. The now disbanded Jan. 6\u2064 committee was mostly run by\u2064 Democrats, with only two \u2064Republicans on board.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<p>In an interview with\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/j6-committee-failed-to-preserve-records-has-no-data-on-capitol-hill-security-failures-gop-charges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a> in\u2062 August, Rep. Mr. Loudermilk found that they hadn\u2019t received\u200b any\u200b significant material from the \u201cblue team,\u201d referring to the J6 committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;ve got \u200dlots \u2064of \u200cdepositions, we&#8217;ve got lots of subpoenas,\u200b we&#8217;ve got video and other documents provided \u200bthrough subpoenas by individuals. \u2062But we&#8217;re not seeing anything from the blue team as \u2063far\u200b as reports\u200b on the investigation\u2064 they\u2062 did looking into the actual breach itself,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat \u200dwe also realized we didn&#8217;t have was the videos of all the\u2064 depositions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Trump\u200c was indicted in August by Special Counsel Jack Smith, linking him with \u200cthe\u2063 events surrounding Jan. 6.<\/p>\n<p>The former president has been\u2063 charged with four counts, including a conspiracy to \u201cimpair, obstruct, and defeat\u201d the collection and counting\u200b of electoral votes.<\/p>\n<p>When asked in his &#8220;Meet the Press&#8221; interview whether he was\u200d worried about going to\u200d jail, he replied, \u201cI&#8217;m built a little\u2064 differently I\u2062 guess, because I have \u200bhad people come up to me and say, &#8216;How do you do it, sir? How do you\u200c do it?&#8217; I don&#8217;t even\u200d think about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think very\u200b few people would have been able to handle what I handled. When I was coming down \u200bthe escalator with Melania, I was \u200balready under \u200cinvestigation, \u2063because \u200dthey saw how well I was\u200d doing in\u2062 the polls.
