However, this doesn&#8217;t necessarily mean that\u2062 a\u200d full-blown trial will take place.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what is likely to happen: Hunter Biden&#8217;s legal team will attempt\u200d to negotiate a new deal where\u200d he admits to the factual\u2064 allegations in the indictment but argues that these allegations cannot be \u200cprosecuted as a crime under\u2064 the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Biden&#8217;s lawyers\u2063 may claim that the indictment constitutes double jeopardy since \u2064he \u200dhad previously agreed to diversion for the offense. This type\u2062 of plea, known as\u200d a stipulated plea, acknowledges \u2062the truth\u2064 of the basic facts while challenging the law.<\/p>\n<p>If \u2064the\u2064 stipulated plea is accepted, Hunter Biden can appeal the inevitable\u200d guilty verdict and raise issues related\u2062 to the Second Amendment and double jeopardy, potentially even in the Supreme Court. However, this scenario seems unlikely.<\/p>\n<p>If Speaker\u200b McCarthy opens an impeachment investigation, it could potentially provide evidence that warrants the appointment of\u2064 a special counsel. But\u2063 without\u200d such developments,\u200b the most probable outcome is some\u200b form of plea deal to \u200davoid a full trial \u2062in the gun application case and any potential tax \u200ccase.<\/p>\n<p>If a full trial were to occur in the gun permit case, it would likely coincide with the presidential campaign season, around the same time President Trump would be\u200d on trial. \u200dSimilarly, \u2063if there\u200b is an indictment in the \u200btax\u200d case and a plea of not guilty, that trial could also take\u200d place \u2063during the run-up to \u2064the\u200b 2024 election.<\/p>\n<p>It remains to\u2064 be seen how these trials will influence the 2024\u2063 presidential campaign. However, they will undoubtedly be\u200b impacted by the charges against Hunter Biden and the uncharged allegations regarding his business\u200c affairs, \u200cwhich Republicans will likely use to counteract \u200bthe \u2062charges against Trump.<\/p>\n<p>One thing that seems relatively certain \u2064is that President Biden \u2062will not pardon \u200dhis son before\u2062 the election, as\u200d it would be politically unwise. Unfortunately, the upcoming presidential campaign\u2062 is likely to focus as much on the criminal justice system as it does on the economy, foreign \u2063policy, immigration, and\u2062 other crucial\u200c issues.<\/p>\n<p><em>Alan M.
