Hospital\u2063 admissions, too, \u200chave declined since then, \u2063along with initial symptoms such as a loss of taste or smell, according to\u2064 the paper.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The SARS-CoV-2 \u2063variant of concern, omicron, appears to be less\u2064 severe than\u2063 delta,&#8221;\u200c the abstract says, noting there has been a\u200c &#8220;lower rate of hospital admission during omicron prevalence than during delta prevalence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Dan Barouch, director of the Center for Virology and \u2063Vaccine Research at Boston&#8217;s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, told NBC News that\u2063 the mild symptoms are, in part, due to previous immunity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Overall, the severity of COVID is much lower than it was a\u2063 year \u200bago and two years ago. That\u2019s not because the variants\u200c are less robust. However, you can have\u200b a sneezing, a cough and watery eyes with an \u200ballergy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said that &#8220;more severe infections, the kind that make\u200b it really hard to breathe, where you get really high fevers \u2062and it knocks you \u200dout for \u2064days and days\u2014that \u200bis really unlikely to be a cold,&#8221; adding, &#8220;Now we&#8217;re in the realm of influenza or\u200b COVID.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Mask\u2062 Mandates?<\/h2>\n<p>The comments from doctors come as a number of hospitals across the United States have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/more-hospitals-across-the-us-bringing-back-mask-mandates-5493023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reimplemented<\/a> \u200d mask mandates in recent weeks. That includes\u2064 doctors, nurses, visitors, and patients, it said.<\/p>\n<p>In Pennsylvania,\u200b Mount\u2064 Nittany Health\u2062 said \u2064on \u2062Sept. 14 that it would\u2062 mandate \u200cemployees to wear masks while engaging with patients. The mandate \u200cwill run \u2064until Sept. 29, according to a news release cited by a \u200dlocal outlet, \u200dbut\u2062 it doesn\u2019t include a mandate for visitors or patients.<\/p>\n<p>Around the same time, Cape\u200c Regional Medical Center\u2063 in Cape May County, New Jersey, confirmed that \u2063it would \u200calso be\u200d reinstating a \u2064mask\u200c mandate.
