Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer.\">deputies deployed chemical agents<\/a> \u200dat the home on Monday.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cCommunity members came forward with information which led homicide detectives to identify the suspect and the vehicle used \u200bin the murder of Deputy Clinkunbroomer early \u2064this\u2063 morning,\u201d Luna said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>The sheriff\u2019s department\u2019s Special Enforcement Bureau tactical team\u200b had gone to the residence in Palmdale and \u201cduring that operation, deputies surrounded the residence and called out all the\u200b occupants of that\u2064 residence,\u201d Luna continued.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cEventually, \u2063family members did come out. The suspect chose to barricade himself\u2062 and\u200d refused to initially come out. He \u200cbarricaded himself for several hours,\u201d Luna added, noting that de-escalation techniques \u200bwere used in an attempt to coax Salazar out\u200d of the property.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cEventually, they deployed chemical agents and the suspect ultimately surrendered,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cAnd I want to take \u200ca pause here for a second when I talk about how proud I am\u200d of this department after a significant tragedy that we\u2019ve shared with all of you, because those special enforcement deputies took the time to try to de-escalate \u2062this and\u2064 take this individual peacefully into custody when they knew \u200dthat our deputy was not afforded the same opportunity,\u201d \u200bLuna also said. \u201cHe never gave our deputy a \u2063chance, but yet \u200bour men and women gave this individual a chance to take him into custody peacefully.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After the shooting, a bystander called 9-1-1 after spotting the deputy unconscious\u200d in his car on Saturday in Palmdale, California, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement officials said during the investigation that a video clip showing a car pulling alongside the patrol vehicle\u200d was a \u201cmain focus\u201d in the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>According to his colleagues, Clinkunbroomer was a \u2064well respected deputy and\u2063 had recently \u200bgotten engaged to his girlfriend four days earlier, prior to the deadly shooting.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Luna also read out a statement from Clinkunbroomer\u2019s family, also describing the officer as being among \u201cthree generations\u201d of law enforcement. The deputy\u2019s father and \u2064grandfather also worked for the sheriff\u2019s department.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur son \u2063Ryan was a dedicated, hardworking deputy sheriff who enjoyed working \u2064here\u2062 at the Palmdale \u2062station. He\u2064 was proud to work along the side of his partners that he considered brothers and sisters as he sacrificed daily to better the community that he served. Ryan made the ultimate sacrifice in doing so,\u201d Luna said. \u201cRyan was recently engaged to the love of his life. As our firstborn son, Ryan will be greatly missed by his family, friends and\u200b the sheriff\u2019s department as a whole.
