This comes after the Justice Department prevented the \u2064agent from appearing for\u200c a\u2063 transcribed \u200dinterview with lawmakers.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan, who serves\u200d as the\u200d chairman of the House\u200d Judiciary Committee, issued the subpoena to Elvis Chan,\u2063 an FBI \u200bagent based in San Francisco. House\u2064 Republicans claim that Chan was the main conduit between the bureau&#8217;s Foreign Influence Task \u200dForce and Big Tech\u2064 companies in\u200d order to suppress the\u2063 scandalous\u2064 laptop \u2062story in\u200c the weeks\u200b leading up to the 2020 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Committee on the Judiciary is conducting oversight\u200c of how and\u200d to \u200dwhat extent \u200cthe \u2063Executive Branch has coerced and colluded with companies\u2062 and other intermediaries \u2063to censor \u200cspeech,&#8221; Jordan said in a letter to \u2062Chan. &#8220;As the primary liaison between the Federal Bureau of Investigation&#8217;s (FBI)\u200d Foreign Influence Task Force\u2063 (FITF) and social media companies, you are uniquely positioned \u2063to aid the Committee&#8217;s oversight.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to Jordan, Chan \u2062previously told lawmakers that the FBI had not communicated \u200cwith Facebook outside of\u2064 a \u2063meeting on October 14, \u20622020, the\u2063 same day the \u200dNew\u2062 York Post published the Biden laptop article. However, Jordan claims that \u2064Chan \u2062was involved in a secret &#8220;follow \u200cup&#8221; call\u2062 with the social media giant the next day, contradicting his previous statement during a deposition\u200c in the government censorship case Missouri v. The story alleged that Hunter Biden, the\u200b son of \u2063then-candidate\u2064 Joe Biden, \u2064had\u200b left a laptop at a \u2064computer\u2063 repair store \u2064in Delaware that \u2064contained incriminating\u200c emails and\u200b other evidence of corruption. The laptop\u200c was eventually turned over to the FBI, and while the agency confirmed\u200d its authenticity,\u200b they did not take any\u200d public\u200b action\u200d regarding the contents.<\/p>\n<p>House Republicans, including\u200b Jordan, believe that the FBI\u200d deliberately suppressed the \u2062story in order \u200dto protect the Biden campaign. \u2063They claim that the\u2062 agency, under the direction of then-Director Christopher Wray, coordinated with Big\u200d Tech companies \u200dsuch as Twitter\u200d and Facebook to limit the spread of the story on \u200btheir platforms. Twitter even went\u2062 so far as to temporarily lock the account\u2064 of the New \u200cYork Post, which was the first outlet\u200b to report on the laptop.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The American people \u200dhave a\u2062 right to know the truth, and they deserve transparency\u2063 from \u2063their government,&#8221; Jordan said. &#8220;The actions of the FBI\u2062 in this matter raise \u2062serious doubts about their commitment \u200bto\u200d objective and unbiased investigations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The subpoena of Agent Chan is the latest effort by House\u2062 Republicans to uncover the truth behind the alleged suppression \u2064of \u2062the Hunter \u2062Biden \u2064laptop story.
