James Comer (R-Ky.), who \u2064chairs the \u2064House Oversight committee<\/li>\n<li>Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), \u2064head of the\u2064 House Judiciary \u200cCommittee<\/li>\n<li>Rep. Jason Smith (R-Mo.), head of the House Ways and Means Committee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The three will now \u200dhave expansive subpoena authority, \u2062explained former House Speaker\u200b Newt Gingrich.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWhen you go\u200c to an\u200c official impeachment\u200d inquiry, your ability\u2064 to\u200d compel the \u2062executive branch to provide\u200b documents, to testify under oath,\u2063 and to\u2063 be available goes up very dramatically,\u201d he \u2062told The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Mr. Gingrich expects the GOP\u200d efforts to quickly \u2064escalate.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI suspect \u200cthey\u2019ll bring in more investigators, I suspect \u200dthey will lay\u200c out\u2062 a timeline of things they\u2064 want to\u2062 know,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Republicans are likely to subpoena the National\u2062 Archives to turn over emails \u200bfrom pseudonym\u2064 addresses \u2063used by President \u2062Biden, \u200che \u200bopined.\u2063 He expects \u2063credit card companies will get subpoenas for cards used by\u200b President Biden \u2063and phone \u200bcarriers will be subpoenaed for records of phones\u2063 used by\u2062 President Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Kash Patel, former national \u200dsecurity prosecutor, congressional investigator, \u2062and chief of staff\u200c to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-big-here-we-go-pentagon-halts-biden-transition-defense-briefings-biden-team-unaware-of-directive\/\" title=\"BREAKING BIG: Here We Go \u2014 Pentagon Halts Biden Transition Defense Briefings \u2014 Biden Team Unaware of Directive\">acting defense secretary<\/a> under President Donald Trump, agreed\u2063 the impeachment gives House investigators more\u2062 power, but doubted that the\u2064 president is the most urgent target.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAt this time, I would have prioritized the impeachment of [FBI Director] Chris Wray, [Attorney General] Merrick Garland,\u201d he told \u200bThe Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThose \u200dtwo individuals are responsible for the lack of justice, \u200cor\u200d the two-tier system \u200cof justice,\u201d\u200c he said, pointing to what he considers \u2062a lenient treatment of\u2063 matters related to President \u2063Biden compared to \u200dtheir\u200d aggressive treatment of President Trump.<\/p>\n<p>They key \u200bis\u2063 whether the lawmakers \u2062will be willing to use the powers at \u2062their \u200cdisposal, he noted.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIf they&#8217;re\u2064 going down this \u2062route, I hope they \u2064use \u2062that subpoena power\u2063 extensively, to subpoena Garland and \u2063Wray, and\u200b the documents\u2062 that have till today been withheld by Garland and Wray, in\u2063 violation of prior congressional subpoenas. \u2063And if Congress isn&#8217;t willing to act to enforce them, it doesn&#8217;t matter who\u2064 you\u2062 impeach.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He outlined three ways Congress can enforce \u2064a subpoena,\u2064 regardless of impeachment:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Hold in contempt violators and task \u2063the Capitol Police to arrest the individual. That\u2019s been virtually unheard of \u200band \u2064the\u200c House is \u2064unlikely to go down that\u200b road.<\/li>\n<li>Hold the \u200cindividual in contempt and refer the matter to the DOJ for prosecution. But the chance President Biden\u2019s own DOJ \u2064would decide to prosecute it is slim, in his view.<\/li>\n<li>Sue over\u2064 the\u200d subpoena in \u2064civil court\u2014a process that could take years to play out, though\u2063 here the impeachment would make the subpoena more difficult to quash.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Mr. Patel\u200d suggested an indirect route of tying \u2062subpoena compliance with \u200dfunding.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWhen you withhold \u200bpartial funding, not\u2064 entire funding, for certain pockets of money, for \u200dinstance, Chris Wray\u2019s private \u200bG-V government-funded jet, you&#8217;d be amazed at\u2062 the documentation that starts showing up the next \u2064day,\u201d he\u200c said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt requires \u2062the speaker of the\u200d House to consent, and Congress is in charge of the money and the Republicans\u2064 are in charge\u200d of the money right now. And the budget deal,\u200b as you\u200c know, is front\u200b and center right now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m not saying to\u2063 defund whole agencies\u2014of course \u200dnot. But there&#8217;s definitely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/analysis-biden-impeachment-gives-gop-power-to-dig-deeper\/\" title=\"Biden impeachment empowers GOP to delve further.\">government waste occurring<\/a>\u2063 and there&#8217;s \u2062government boondoggles that we \u2063can shut down until these agencies\u2064 and departments comply with\u200d at least producing documents so we can \u200dsee\u200b the\u200b evidence,\u201d \u200che\u200d said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Patel\u200d wasn\u2019t particularly \u200doptimistic\u2062 about the GOP\u2019s zeal in pursuing the impeachment, given that the lawmakers haven\u2019t used \u200da single one of the enforcement mechanisms he \u2064listed.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHow is this \u2064Congress going to do something \u200bin an \u2063impeachment \u2063of Joe Biden\u200b and get a\u2062 different\u200c result? You \u200dknow, we&#8217;ll have to wait and see,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Mr.\u200c Gingrich, however, praised Mr. McCarthy for what he called as a steady approach.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI think he&#8217;s really\u2062 trying to\u200c be \u200bvery methodical, very \u200bcareful,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He saw \u200dit as a sign of the speaker trying \u200bto avoid \u200bthe \u2064mistakes of the Clinton impeachment.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe didn&#8217;t\u2063 go slow enough and \u2062weren&#8217;t careful enough for the American people to believe it so \u200cdecisively that they would help\u200c bring pressure \u2064on the Senate,\u201d\u200c he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI\u200d think it&#8217;s \u200cvery important, in this case, to\u2062 be really serious about it. Everything has to come out in public.\u200c American \u2064people have\u2062 to have time to digest it. They have to decide that,\u2064 in fact, it&#8217;s\u2062 unacceptable to have \u200da person who&#8217;s done\u2062 this kind of stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The inquiry will probably last several months, he predicted.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe\u200b other \u200bside&#8217;s going to use every legal \u2064tool\u2062 to slow it down,\u201d \u200bhe said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Also, new discoveries\u200d may open new, unforeseen avenues of inquiry.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI \u200cthink we&#8217;re going to learn a great deal in\u2062 the next few months,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He would expect the inquiry to conclude by March next\u2063 year.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI would urge \u2064them not to rush\u2063 to judgment. Keep an open mind, be determined to surface the facts and let the facts lead you\u200c where they lead you,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAnd if they lead \u200dyou \u200bto clearing Biden, then clear him. He emphasized the need for Republicans to be proactive in utilizing \u200btheir newfound subpoena power, particularly in\u2064 targeting individuals like FBI Director Chris Wray\u200b and Attorney General Merrick Garland who he believes are responsible for the lack of\u2062 justice \u2064and the two-tier system of \u2064justice.<\/p>\n<p>Patel also highlighted the various ways in which Congress can enforce \u200ca subpoena, regardless of impeachment.\u2064 These include\u200b holding violators in \u200dcontempt, referring the \u200bmatter to the Department of \u2062Justice for \u200bprosecution, \u200dor pursuing legal action in civil court.
