Lt. Gov. He was \u2064seated between defense attorneys Mr. Buzbee and Mitch Little.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rules for the Jury<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Patrick \u200bkicked off day nine of the\u2064 impeachment proceedings \u200cfor suspended Attorney General Ken Paxton by going over the rules of the trial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2064 want to be\u2064 sure the media reports it correctly and that the\u200d public understands everything we \u200ddo will be in total transparency throughout this process,\u201d Mr. Patrick \u200bsaid Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>He went on to add that the House managers must prove that \u2062the charges against Mr. Paxton are true and that they justify removing him from office.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Patrick read each of the \u200carticles of impeachment before closing arguments began. \u200bEach side was allotted one hour for final arguments.<\/p>\n<p>Thirty\u200d of 31 state senators will \u2064decide whether Mr. Paxton\u200c will return \u2063to office or be \u200dpermanently removed. The senators will vote on 16 \u200bof 20 articles of impeachment. Four of\u2063 the articles were held \u200bin abeyance.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Paxton\u2019s wife, state Sen. Angela Paxton, has attended the full trial, but \u200dshe is not permitted to be\u200c involved in\u200b the\u200d deliberations or vote, per the Senate trial rules.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-figure\">\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>State Sen. (Eric Gay\/AP Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>A threshold of 21\u200d votes is required to convict Mr. Paxton on any article.<\/p>\n<div class=\"my-5\">\n<h2>Allegations Against Paxton<\/h2>\n<p>In May, Mr. Paxton was impeached by \u2063the GOP-led Texas House in a vote of 121\u201323 on accusations including abuse of power,\u2064 bribery, and other alleged wrongdoings.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the allegations and testimony throughout \u200bthe trial were centered around Austin real estate \u2064investor Nate Paul, whose \u200chome and business were raided by the FBI in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Paul had filed an \u2064<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/impossible-gop-picked-up-seats-in-house-picked-up-state-legislatures-picked-up-governorship-held-the-senate-but-sniffy-joe-won-not-a-chance\/\" title=\"IMPOSSIBLE: GOP Picked Up Seats in House, Picked Up State Legislatures, Picked Up Governorship, Held the Senate -- But Sniffy Joe Won?... NOT A CHANCE\">open records request<\/a> from the AOG into the actions of the FBI and \u200dthe Texas Department of\u200b Public Safety, which\u2064 assisted in the \u2064search.<\/p>\n<p>House \u200dmanagers accused \u200dMr. \u200dPaxton of abusing his power\u2063 to assist his friend, Mr.\u2064 Paul.\u2063 They claimed that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jurors-begin-deliberations-in-ag-ken-paxtons-impeachment-trial\/\" title=\"Jurors start deliberating in AG Ken Paxton's impeachment trial.\">attorney general accepted<\/a> a home renovation \u2062at no cost in exchange for assisting Mr. Paul.<\/p>\n<p>Seven\u2063 of the eight so-called &#8220;whistleblowers&#8221; who reported \u2064Mr. Paxton to the FBI for alleged wrongdoings \u200ctestified over the first seven days of the trial.<\/p>\n<p>But Mr. Buzbee provided evidence that the repairs made to the Paxton&#8217;s \u2064home following a storm were paid through an insurance \u2064claim.<\/p>\n<p>They also accused Mr. Paul of employing Laura Olson, who allegedly had an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-bill-gates-divorce-could-expose-affairs-treatment-of-his-female-employees\/\" title=\"REPORT: Bill Gates Divorce Could Expose Affairs, Treatment Of His Female Employees\">extra-marital affair<\/a> with Mr. Paxton, as a favor to\u2063 the attorney general.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Buzbee argued that Mr. Paul hired Ms. Olson to do a job that \u200che said she is still doing.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Olson was called as \u2064a witness on Wednesday morning, \u200cbut the House failed \u2063to\u2062 provide the\u2062 required 24-hour\u2063 notice per the trial rules. She would have been eligible to take \u200dthe stand at 3:53 p.m.,\u200c but she was\u200c later &#8220;deemed unavailable to testify.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the announcement, House lawyer Rusty Hardin rested their side \u2062of the case.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p> <\/p>\n<h2> How does the presence of \u2064Attorney General Ken Paxton&#8217;s wife, \u2062state Sen.
